It seems that no matter what I'm searching for, half of the pictures will always be some poorly drawn furries, ponies or those weird things from Sonic.

Google. Sometimes google with deviantart or site:deviantart.com to help filter it. I change key words in the search a lot and usually add art or artwork to the end. That usually gets me an image i want or something close and if it's close and on DA then I use that page as a "search for similar". You can avoid some of the stuff you're running into that way.

Also artstation is good and a few others in the pastebin. Anime images dan/gelbooru are your go to sites i'd think.

The first set of choices is for background, the descriptions for each background is generally pretty short with a couple bonuses and drawbacks listed in simple note form. Not much as changed from the previous revision here.

The next training ground section has a much larger canvas for descriptions, this is mainly for the muscle wizard/choice giver to explain to you the historical significance of each territory this cyoa is taken place in.

I am still toying around with the format until I feel comfortable with the layout.

Why do I feel like everything I do artistically is absolute shit and I must constantly scrap everything and start over only to end up with even shittier formatting?

I think I've sort of scrapped the prehistory CYOA I was working on because the color scheme isn't coming together and also it had fetish fuel that I hadn't considered might be fetish fuel in it so there was thing. So I took the software and layout and used it to work on a cyberpunk one. I won't scrap this one. I swear.

3 is solid in all respects, but also kind of boring.

I'm not really a fan of 5, but that may be personal bias. I feel like it's a bit too far in the other direction. It's well-balanced for early Worm, but seems like it's a crapshoot as to whether you'd survive, let alone prosper, unless you minmax to get a 20-point power.


Also, I was going to link the batshit one, but 4chan thinks it's spam. Should be the first result for "Nightgazer's Worm CYOA" on Google. Look at the "Curbstomp version" from the links at the bottom. The first one literally makes it hard NOT to be overpowered, whereas #2, "Skitter mode" can actually make for a potentially balanced experience, if you're willing to not head for OP options. I think my favorite part is the companions section. For the most part it rips off of other Worm CYOAs, until you get to the last two. There's not anything particularly wrong with the last two, but they're completely out-of-place in a Worm CYOA, and it's just so fucking random to have them as companion choices. Why them? Why not just have a crossover option? Why did they choose these two in specific to be companion options? If they loved MLP so much, shouldn't they have had MLP companion options? It's just so inexplicable, combined with the fact that it's the very last thing on the page, just sums up the experience so well I can't help but laugh every time I think about it.

Well, it's a lazy/easy system to build with. Just take an existing power set, jailbreak away any inherent weaknesses and then throw in Gamer so you can rapidly power up.

I'm not saying the system is bad. It makes it easy to get started because everyone's already familiar with what you can do based on the character you're copying and you can just copy the creative uses that happened in canon. Gamer means you can start of "weak" and quickly become OP, so there's a sense of growth.

The downside is that it's not a very mentally taxing system.

So it's good for writing fics but not as fun for making builds.

Using the Lucha Libre ability to remain sane vs. elder gods, I'll use Gun Show to keep both Meditation Actives up, guarding the Pit of Silence for all of time (I'm like, double immortal because of my two legacies). If the elder god tries to get out, I'll fart on him - you can fart while stationary, allowing me to stay meditating. Lion familiar allows for food & water without stopping my vigil - if I even still need to eat, that is. Lastly, my muscle trace will allow me to copy any nasty shit he tries to pull on me, so I can use it right back at him.

I wouldn't say it's still used because it's lazy/easy to make builds in, but because it has the largest variety in potential builds. It basically incorporates every power in Worm as an option, so people can make all sorts of builds by spinning variants on Twins and Crossover. Two people can make wildly different characters with identical builds by choosing different subjects and jailbreaks for Twins, or different Crossover targets. It's really lazy and vague CYOA design, so I personally count it against the CYOA more than for it.

Personally, I really like the way it handles the difficulties. It's the only one where they have a really substantial effect on the experience. In the others, the general power level is pretty much the same no matter the difficulty, the difference is just the amount of powers you're stacking together. In #2, Skitter Mode can actually create reasonable characters (while it's still easy to minmax some broken shit), Normal Mode can create OP-but-not-instant-win characters easily, and God Mode makes it trivial to build just about anything. So that's definitely something it's got going for it. While I'm tired of seeing Worm CYOAs, if there did have to be another, I would like to see that aspect in it.

I still think it's kind of a mess and probably the least well-made one, though.

I can never really get interested in the attacks/powers. Some of them have some decent utility, but I'm not generally interested in "gamey" style of attack-powers in CYOAs. "High chance to knockback" type like I'm building a game character doesn't interest me.

There's no beef, but I liked having the descriptions interact with each other, so you have an idea what a certain combination might cause.
I'm not a fan of his CYOAs, and I especially hate his graphics, so it made sense for my character to hate/be jealous of his also he gets way more responses than I do I mean his Pokemon cyoa took up several goddamn threads I'm not jealous or anything

I don't read waifu cyoas and he loves making them, plus he usually gives the player far too many points. I remember not even spending half my points in that "New World" CYOA.

It was never about realism, it was about making a good story. Harem Creator's stand has been that perfect relationships aren't interesting to read/hear about compared to troubled ones. You can argue that this isn't the point of CYOA in the first place and that people are just looking for perfect wish fulfillment (which is its own can of worms, especially if you take the origins of the medium into account), but realism has never been the issue.

And so the eternal battle between entitled faggots and masochistic thespians continues. You can't win. One side will always hate you for including waifus with flaws, the other will hate you for doing the opposite. In purely statistical terms there's a slight advantages to picking the faggots, since they outnumber the masochists massively and thus promise higher CYOA popularity in the long term. However, the masochists are capable of stirring up more shitstorms, and the relative rarity of CYOAs pandering to them means more would become famous purely for the rage value, whereas CYOAs pandering to the faggot crowd risk drowning in the ocean of samey ones.

Nah, it's because the CYOA went through a bunch of overhauls. First was version 4.01. Then it was 4.02. After that was 4.03.

Each version was significantly different than the other. Finally settled on 4.02, which was then revised/overhauled/expanded.
