fa/tg/uys, I need to say that while I enjoy the Path of War Disciplines, I think that the Classes is too strong and even unbalanced in a low/medium level of optimization.

Can you help me to dispel this thoughts?
>>
>>47302606
They're not any stronger than, say, an Alchemist or a Magus is.
>>
>>47302606
The thing is, lowOp involves generally picking up trap choices. Path of War has no trap choices.

3rd for someone give me the the lowdown on catfolk, and maybe dump some good catfolk art. I want to play one, but nobody ever unironically talks about them so I have no idea what even counts as "acceptable".
>>
>>47302695

I don't know about these, really. My group style is long days filled with 4-6 encounters a day, so a Magus run out of spells very quickly in the early levels. The Alchemist holds his ground IF isn't a Bomb build.

>>47302701
I agree.

And sorry about didn't mention it in the original post, this problem is more by 1st-4th level.
>>
>>47302606They definitely have a lower floor than a lot of classes, but your idea of low and medium optimization are most likely different than most people's. If you mean paizo level is low then I would agree they are too strong, but paizo has no idea how to optimize so that is 0 optimization for most people. If you mean barbarian that doesn't go beast totem level then any PoW class can just pick the not so good options too and they should be about equal overall. If mid-optimization is staying in tier but moving up in it they are definitely balanced there. It is just easier to not pick trap options with PoW because there aren't nearly as many.
>>
Competently constructed rules for magic item crafting.

I need them.

Since we we're discussing improved familiars last thread. What are some good and interesting familiars you could take?
>>
>>47302836
Psychopomp
>>
>>47302767
That is rusty dagger shanktown which PoW is admittedly much less likely to die in because of its ability to one round low level enemies and escape options. A wizard spamming colour spray and sleep for those levels is also too good though, so it's more the game than PoW.
>>
>>47302836

Shikigami kami

Is there any way to do a druid or druid-like who wild shapes at will instead of spellcasting?

Look at Spheres of Power for either their variant of Druid or Shifter.

Alternatively, see if someone around here is willing to lob you the Chimera Heart playtest and play any PoW Martial.

Level 5 Warder here.
Looking to be a "tank" via applying shitloads of debuffs and pissing enemies off into hitting me.
So far I can:
Apply Armiger's Mark
Demoralize reliably (Enforcer + Merciful weapon with +20 Intimidate)
Potentially lock down movement (Guard's Glare)
Sicken (Cruel weapon)
"Taunt" via 2 different Iron Tortoise maneuvers

What can I do to apply more on-hit debuffs?
I'll get Advanced Study if I have to, just gimme some suggestions.

http://therafimrpg.wikidot.com/imperious-command

Note: 3.5 to PF conversion means the feat has a requirement of 5 ranks of Intimidate, not 8, because 3.5 had you start with 4x the ranks and it was weird with skills.
>>
>>47303355
>http://therafimrpg.wikidot.com/imperious-command
That seems REAL strong.
I don't think that's gonna fly.
>>
>>47303355
If 3.5 is allowed, there's also Never Outnumbered: http://dndtools.pw/feats/complete-scoundrel--60/never-outnumbered--3295/

Note that as a skill trick, you take it by spending 2 skill points once you meet the prereqs, and it's only usable 1/encounter
>>
>>47303062
Speaking of Equipment Trick: Cape, what's the best arrangement of archetypes for an intimidate-based Rogue? It's Unchained, so it also would have the skill unlock.

At the moment I'm looking at Thug, Rake and possibly a Scout combination with either.

Things don't get missed as much since you have logs, you have time to type out things to do more detail, and if you're nervous like I am it doesn't fuck with your RPing as much.
>>
>>47303724
Been trying to get my friends to build for the game we decided to play over the summer. Been about a month, maybe a month and a half. I've given up all hope especially since a new compendium just came out. Looks like I'm going all summer without a game...
>>
>>47303951
Written logs and archiving means that people are less likely to fiddle about with "Uuuuh, what was this important NPC's name again?" and such. It also allows you a great "range" of tones and voices that your character could utilize, as well as giving you the time to think about what you want to say before blurting it out like an idiot.
>>
>>47303951
It's probably slower than voice, but not as much slower as you might think, since you can type things in advance.

Bestiary 5 was an absolute blast.
>>
>>47303934
If 3pp and homebrew are allowed, then you have access to things like the Privateer archetype for vigilante or warlord (and desperado on top of that), and the Bloody Kraken discipline is supposed to be getting an update soon. For 1pp there is Savage Technologist which fits pretty perfectly and gives you access to the Terrifying Howl rage power. Although there are other ways to emulate the mask that escape me at the moment.
>>
>>47304044
>Elf Savage Technologist
>Terrifying Howl

I'll have to look into that. Wish my GM allowed 3pp, but them's the breaks.
>>
>>47302552

What music would you use for a fight with a Vilderavn?

The boss theme for the Abyss Watchers?
>>
>>47304080
That's a shame they don't, Savage Technologist is probably your best bet at doing it. Sword and pistol is outrageously hard to do without house rules or 3pp content.
>>
>>47303951
It takes longer if people aren't really paying attention, or always take a minute to think about what they're going to say before they pump something out. It also depends on how well they know the system, but that's kind of a given for any format. Pathfinder has gone a lot smoother than the system I used to play, but anything probably ran smoother than that system.

I also tried voice with a roll20 game, and I can't really pull that shit off. Between being constantly nervous, fumbling my words, people talking over eachother, and my fucked up schedule, I was just uncomfortable as fuck the whole time.
I played 5e with my sister and her friends in-person once, and that went pretty okay. Mostly because I kind of comfortable around them, and too distracted with trying to cook to be nervous about spilling my spaghetti.
>>
>>47302908
It's an edgy super powered raven knight, so that shouldn't be surprising.

I play a cat folk barbarian in my game. A few things I do for flavor:

>My character wears a mask hiding the top half of his face and takes great pains not to be seen without it.

>he is also eager to claim the meat from edible monsters and animals. Although not exactly haute cuisine he takes pride in being able to clean, preserve, and prepare food.

>related to the above: he takes a somewhat patronizing view of people who can't prepare their own food and thinks of them as being somewhat childish and in need of help.

>constantly poking things to find out what they do, tends to be very poor at long-term planning

Yet another session fell through today.
I drove for an hour just to be told on the phone that the GM didn't show when I was about 5 minutes away.
I think I've finally had enough.

Please tell me where to go to find a good online group, /pfg/!

I've tried play-by-post once, on Mythweavers. I'd rather not remember that cringefest. It was so slow, and the players were... Lacking.
I'd like a live game. Text or voice, Tabletop Simulator or roll20, I don't care. I just want to play Pathfinder with a group of competent players that have at least half as much passion as I do for the game. I'm not getting that from my current group, but it's the only one in town, since I live in a third world shithole. Man, I'll not sleep and skip Uni if it means I can play with a good group.

>>
>>47305037
Yeah

Dominate Person:
>Obviously self-destructive orders are not carried out.

Compelling Domination:
>the victim does get a new saving throw with a +2 bonus to escape the effects of the domination

You get one save, and if not, you spend the next 15 days trying to kill yourself.
>>
>>47304979
>unless that's actually a thing in PF

More or less, though I think it's just called Faerie or Fey or some other generic "here be fairies yo" term
>>
>>47305043
The Shadowfell and Shadowdark (which is silly as fuck but "the underdark of the shadowfell" sort of makes sense) are specifically 4e (or maybe 5e) terms that do indeed refer to specific places.
>>
So PFG Shadow Dancer or Assassin?
>>
>>47305037
That's on top of the fact that she can have three members of the party trying to kill the rest of the party with no save.

And then has 15 days to separate them, tie them down and then kill them herself one by one.

Ez pz no save.
>>
>>47305119
Shadow Dancer every time
>>
>>47305074
I'm only going off the description that you(?) posted. You get two saves, the second one at a +2. This isn't particularly bad by PF standards, since lots of effects kick you out of the fight with one failed Will save. With Prot/Evil, even though Paizo removed its mind control immunity, that's still one will save at +4, and one at +6.

If you are particularly likely to fail two will saves, one at +4 and one at +6, your character is probably not cut out for the storyline.

Even so, just dominating them into waiting in the corner is mechanically more effective.
>>
>>47305074

What first saving throw?

>Compelling Domination (Su) When a seraptis uses dominate person (as a spell or spell-like ability), its victims do not actively resist the control

You don't get a first saving throw.

You just get one if she tells you to coup de grace at a +2. Granted, it's only DC19, but the ability is better to turn the party against each other with no save.
>>
>>47305074
So how can I get the compelling domination ability on a PC?
>>
>>47305241
It's a Supernatural Ability for a specific species of demon, usually non-transferable.

I would elect to try it through plot reasons. There are rules for becoming a demon, and some Demon Lords will grant you gifts.
>>
>>47305197
It's kind of a different type of character concept, those shittier classes are for nonmagic people.
>>
>>47305231
Pretty sure that just means that you don't get a new saving throw when ordered to act against your nature. It's badly worded, but what else can you expect from Paizo.

>>47305289
But it explicitly states that separately.

>its victims do not actively resist the control and do not gain a new saving throw when ordered to take actions against their nature

When you don't actively resist an ability, you oblige to fail the save.

>>
>>47305231
>You don't get a first saving throw.

Yeah, you do. Unless you're referring to your way hip homebrew? It nowhere says they are deprived of a save, while it does say they get a "new" save if ordered to kill themselves.

For those who, like yourself, have shit reading comprehension, the "resisting the control" clause refers to this part:

>subjects resist this control, and any subject forced to take actions against its nature receives a new saving throw with a +2 bonus.

Her mind control just does what 99% of people think mind control monsters already do: force PCs to attack each other.

Also I was mistaken on PF mind control: if you cast Protection from Evil, a fucking FIRST LEVEL SPELL, first, she can't do jack shit to you, period. If you cast it afterwards, then they get a new save.

>with no save

Remember, this is either your own shitty houserule, or your own abysmal reading comprehension.
>>
>>47305313
"The control" means the commands given after domination has been established.
>>
>>47305290

Alright then. Thanks for the prior notice.
>>
>>47305241
Its not usually necessary for PCs, as most monsters don't have their nature violated by attacking other monsters, while good aligned PCs generally won't willingly attack their friends.

Ignore the idiot who thinks it denies them their first save. Its also a lot of investment for a power that is *automatically* cancelled by a first level spell.

>>47305313
Nopers! Keyword is:

>a new saving throw

The "resist the control" thing refers to fighting against commands against their nature.
>>
>>47305313
It also explicitly states that you get a NEW saving throw when compelled to do something self-destructive, implying there was a previous one. "its victims do not actively resist the control and do not gain a new saving throw when ordered to take actions against their nature" is one part of the ability, and the second part of that sentence merely clarifies the mechanical parts of the first one.

Ruling question:
Using Martial Training 1 to get enduring crane strike, then using a small punching dummy or something out of combat to replace a wand of CLW (refreshing as a full round action, so each heal takes 12 seconds) is possible by RAW and not totally imbalanced, correct?
Party of martials who otherwise can't even UMD a wand, expecting to go up against some longer dungeons that may require healing between fights. I'd planned on going silver crane anyways since it fits my character and gives some nice benefits for feats that would otherwise be dumb shit like weapon focus, but unsure if I should take the heal or go for one of the other 1st level maneuvers.
>>
>>47305438
As a GM, I'd allow it only if you did nonlethal sparring for it.
That'd be radical.
Dummy, no.
But hey, you're right - RAW seems like it lets you do that.
Should probably ask your GM, as always.

>Using Martial Training 1 to get enduring crane strike, then using a small punching dummy or something out of combat to replace a wand of CLW (refreshing as a full round action, so each heal takes 12 seconds) is possible by RAW and not totally imbalanced, correct?
By RAW, technically no it has to target a creature, that being said you can nonlethally punch yourself/others.
Most dms will not allow the infinite free out of combat healing though.
>>
>>47305313
Fun fact: you aren't dominated until you fail your initial saving throw against the dominate effect. It's only after you are dominated that you don't actively resist the control.
>>
>>47305497
>Most dms will not allow the infinite free out of combat healing though.
I disagree.
Out of combat healing is meaningless if it's within the party only.
I let my party sit down and rest for an hour to heal to full.
If I wanted to run some kind of grimdark "Avoid battle because you're still fucked up from the fight last week" game I wouldn't be running PF.
Just my two cents, of course.

Fair enough, I have the horrible misfortune of being a kineticist so eating nonlethal is bad news bears, but i'm sure the d12 hd ranger wouldn't mind some friendly shoulder pats courtesy of the friendly local 9 str kineticist after combat.
I think it's pretty manageable for a dm though, you can always just have it be interrupted, and it seems like it would end up being mostly swapping lethal damage for smaller amounts of nonlethal.
>>
Another DM chiming in with two cents; I've been running free out of combat healing for years in both 3.5 and PF. Didn't break anything, made encounters more fun.

My Wizard just hit level 7. I'll be taking Improved Familiar for either an Imp or a Faerie Dragon. Imp has a LOT of great abilities, like Commune, Invisibility at will, Beast Shape, while the Faerie Dragon has Greater Invisibility 3/day, some neat abilities and casts as a Sorcerer. That means the Faerie Dragon can use any Sorcerer/Wizard wands.

If your a necromancer, if, go for a negative energy elemental if your gm allows it. Any spell using negative energy(see a good few) are auto maximized. Not to mention the free healing for undead.
Imagine, maximized enervations for days.
>>
>>47305610
I have literally not played in a game where the GM gave a shit about healing at all. Except one time we had an "I WILL HEAL THE WHOLE PLANET SO HELP ME GOD" Cleric.
Like, one time we didn't have a caster with cure spells or any way to heal at all and he just let us each start with a ring of fast healing 1.
I kind of figured this was the standard "who the fuck does it by the books" houserule, just like not actually making Bluff rolls if you bluffed well in RP or not keeping track of carrying capacity for generic adventuring gear.
>>
>>47305637
The Issue I see with it, especially when you throw initiators into the mix, is it makes it so that an initiator always fights at 100%, they will always have their maneuvers, stances, and full hp, meanwhile the casters, manifestors, stuff with per day primary class features, will generally grind down and run out of spells (Assuming we are not doing one fight sleep for eight hours shenanigans).
It makes the initiators able to do fight every fight with all their resources with 0 expenditure.
>>
>>47305705
>not actually making Bluff rolls if you bluffed well in RP
TRIGGERED
Just remembered how a GM made me roll Bluff after a sick-ass setup and a great RP delivery and I fucked it with a nat 1 and it didn't work.
>>
>>47305728
Or just have the casters arbitrarily recover their spells when the game calls for it
>>
>>47305603
I use max HP and buffed the heals to 1d6+4 "per die" (So, Cure Light Wounds at CL 5 heals 1d6+9, while a Cure Moderate Heals 2d6+13). So far, it works wonders.

And I get that feeling. My games are heavy modded too.

You are missing the point where it isnt healing themselves it is healing themselves to full for free unlimited times a day with 0 resource expenditure.
Casters have to spend Spells, Manifesters PP, potions, wands, ect cost gold, boots of the earth cost an item slot and gold.
This is literally I can heal to full as a class feature as many times as I want for free.
>>

Isn't CLW wand like 25g a pop? IIRC there's 30 in a wand. As long as your gold/hp ratio in combat is better than that, it's functionally infinite.

50 per wand, anon.

Yes, it's cheap but someone can steal the wand, someplaces cannot sell them, you can find yourself very away from civilization and unable to recharge your portable cleric, and STILL costs something.

You cannot steal or make a class feature don't work without the players feel cheated, and if you are ALWAYS running every encounter at full HP since Level 1 is boring as hell.

D&D 4th really hit the right spot with Healing Surges, because you can't heal infinite times per day.

Hello /pfg/!

I've decided to try something new for the next session(s) of the campaign I'm running: an investigation.

Setting's modified Korvosa.
A "special" theatrical troupe has taken to torturing animals, and then humanoid creatures (slowly leading up to straight-up kidnapping and gruesome on-stage execution) for the pleasure of a select few spectators.
However, during one of the shows, a Derro escaped, and came back to his brethrens with a thirst for revenge: the creatures have decided to start a campaign of terror, enticed by this fanatic and charismatic new leader.

Instead of just having the PCs hear about the derros and pointing them towards a dungeon to crawl, I'd like to have them investigate a disappearance and discover a few similar cases, eventually finding out the identity of the kidnappers and their hideout - maybe create some confusion with the other kidnappers (the theatrical troupe, which has started to take to human victims).

However, I've no clue how to realize all of that.

tl;dr: is there a tutorial somewhere on how to write an investigation quest? Is there a module I could steal from?
Is this a terrible idea in the first place?
>>
If someone game in with a story about a boss who constantly ran away and healed back to full HP by flicking his kitten with Silver Crane/Elemental Flux stance, you fucks would bitch endlessly.

I like Path of War, but it has flaws. A lot of flaws. Flaws aside from PF/Broken Blade, in fact I think Primal Fury and Broken Blade is the LEAST of Path of Wars problems as far as disciplines and maneuvers are concerned.

>>

It also has a lot of good pointers about how to handle spells when it comes to investigation stuff.

>>
>>47306414
No, not particularly. As the BBEG, he's also completely capable of hitting random townsfolk for healing, too, or just sucking down potions that he pulled out of his ass because he's the BBEG..

I mean, how the fuck often do you actually fight creatures that start off with less than their full HP, anyway?
>>
>>47306414
Not really. I fully expect an enemy who retreats instead of fighting to the death to have SOME method of healing, whether it's by potions, wands, spells, or maneuvers.

Good to know, though I doubt it'll be useful as the PCs will be around level four.

>>47306481
Sure thing, though I'm not sure what to elaborate on. The plot's not quite refined yet. The part with the Derros is just an excuse to have the PCs level up to 5, when they'll be strong enough to handle the rest of the content I've prepared; and the Theatrical troupe will pop up later on in the campaign (though, I'll adapt if they decide to completely decimate it.)

If you consider "martials can't have nice things" as a spectrum rather than a binary switch, it becomes very obvious:

Below 'magic':
Swords and Longbows are the most magicky fantasy-y of the weapons, and get generally the best treatment as a result. They are the "least martial" of the weapons.

Polearms are seen by developers and those with hero-complexes (outside of asia, where things like the Guan-Dao get the treatment we give swords) as weapons of the rabble. The shitty crap the swords and bows cut through by the thousand on their own because heroes, yet given JUST enough that they pose, en-masse, a nearly credible threat to these heroes, lest it be a rather questionably ethical massacre of people one would have to consider not equipped for combat.

And THEN. Not even there to face the heroes, literally just there for soldiers who can't even fight to spend six months surrounding a wall in hopes the other side gives up... are siege weapons. Pure mechanical tactical existences, the very BANE of "my wizard is more intelligent than your jock thats why I win" thought processes. As if that wasn't bad enough, dying to some "random" catapult stone is "anticlimatic", "unheroic", and more or less viewed as "rocks fall" (they kiiiinda do)

Siege weapons are shit because those who made these games WANT them to be shit. They want them to be the most and worst shit, but, despite the use of words like "balance" and "fairness", much like the crossbow, will nevertheless INSIST and DEMAND that their drawbacks: being heavy and slow, are not only enforced, but also prevented from being bypassed by such silly nonmagical means as "a fucking giant picked it up because it's just a large weapon". Not without many, many hoops.

I ran a whole campaign based on an island of neverending night-time full of undead monstrosities that keep coming back unless you burn the corpses. But the fire draws more.
The party had to explore and clear out an old castle to use as a home base.
What started off as spooky shit within the castle eventually became friendly NPC undead when they recruited a medium NPC.
I bait-and-switched them into the campaign, so they were completely unprepared. Only one of them had a strong Will save, and they had no way to deal with Fear effects.
Literally every session was super spooky, I can't pick one specific thing.
Sadly, just like everything in my life, after a great, promising start, it ended up floundering pathetically, then was left behind by everyone and is now spending time collecting dust in a dark corner.

One of my previous players was actually an Artificer/Warder.
He spent a lot of time crafting things and bro-ing up with the skelesmith. I didn't mind.

Honestly, I'd like to run the campaign again. I've been working on it on-and-off for over a year now, well before and well after the game.
Thing is, the way my group plays PF is... unorthodox. So I'd have to get used to a new program and port all my assets and stuff to it, which would take a while...
I'd do it, though, I think.
Would be interesting to try out a text-based game, as well. Always felt that my greatest weakness as a GM was my horrible range and thick accent.

If I get three players, I'll run it.
I got a couple responses already, but hey, maybe no one's actually up for it. Worth a shot, right?

I'm GMT+2 but I'm available quite a lot for the coming few months.
Hell, it's 3 AM for me right now and I'm sitting here anyway.

Criteria:
No ERP
Keep magical realm to a minimum
Show up for games consistently
Don't build specifically to counter the campaign

Details:
Gestalt
Any 3pp within reason
DSP and Interjection Games OK without asking
25PB
I've got some homebrew races available too
Starting level negotiable, no higher than 6 though
Constant GM fiat that isn't even written down as houserules (being hit by a giant wielding a tree trunk moves you X squares etc.)
Not sure what program, we can figure that out (My group uses Tabletop Simulator + voice but it's actually pretty shitty)

Technically no, because mystic bolts don't get any stat-based scaling WAY TO GO PAIZO YOU FUCKUPS but since it also counts as a light weapon, who the fuck knows. I'd allow it, though I probably would have also just ruled that a Warlock loses all those appearance abilities and instead gets shit like a ghetto arcane pool and a better way to scale their bolts. Also arcane strike not taking an action anymore.

>>47308943
Mystic Bolts function as a light melee weapon, with a throw range of 30.

Why can't we ever get an AP based on the Nirmathas/Molthune conflict, or even find a DM that's interested in crafting some homebrew for it?

Because golly gee, that entire region is basically the most adorable case of "Evil Empire of Faceless Mooks and Superweapon-of-the-week is invading Land of Plucky Heroes, Flammable Villages and pleasant Not!French Countrysides" I've ever seen.
>>

>>

We all know we've had this AP several times before.

>Freedom-loving CG rebel-types fight back against oppressive-mean fascist LE-types.

Molthune would become nothing more than a villain of the week and a different shade of Cheliax.

I don't think Paizo has the ability to write Molthune as an antagonist without making them LE.

A real interesting idea would be to have the players be new recruits for the Molthune army, which is notoriously diverse and egalitarian. You could be a Telfling fleeing oppression from Cheliax, a refuge escaping the state religion of Nidal, a former noble of Galt looking to start over or a former Ulfun Guard on his way home. They would start as new recruits, undertake a few missions and eventually lead the armies of Molthune to glorious victory over the dirt diggers and tree-hugging cabin-dwellers.

And to make everyone happy, the party goes rogue after their Commander orders them to commit some war crimes on a village you just conquered, and it eventually becomes the goal of the party to avenge the tree-hugging little peasant shits and kill their commander, who eventually goes rogue himself to forge his own kingdom within Nirmathas.

>>
>>47309413
I'm coming up with one, sort of. The heroes are either hired by Nirmathas to defend it or hired by someone else (PFS?) to investigate some goings-on. Basically, the conflict is ramping up with the addition of some various magical weapons provided by shady arms dealers. Constructs, Undead, some kind of magic cannons, the works. The PCs have to navigate the conflict as well as politics of war while dealing with these arms dealers who are selling to both sides and causing wide spread death and destruction.

The secret is that most of the arms dealers are Changelings and Fairies, serving a coven of Hags from the other side of Lake Encarthan, who want to completely destabilize the region and found their own horrible, anarchic nation of monsters dedicated to fear, violence, and the continuing worship of Gyronna, which is of course spread through misery.

I came up with it for a homebrew setting but I think it translates well enough into Golarion. There'll be fairies and unkillable, not-quite-alive soldiers and Hobgoblin fanatics and maybe one of these guys >>47307052.

First line of the AP's summary

"The city of Kintargo has long been a safe haven for artists, freethinkers, and those marginalized by the oppressive Chelish government, but now the city has been placed under martial law by inquisitor Barzillai Thrune"
>>
>>47309823

>>

>>
>>47309862
>a group of diverse individuals team up to face a threat
You just described every campaign that has ever been written or played. It's the basis of how a group gets together.

When you make a statement that's universally broad, it doesn't really apply to anything specific.
>>
>>47309782
Hell's Rebels, portions of Reign of Winter, arguably Curse of the Crimson Throne, later sections of Jade Regent, you could make the argument for Skulls & Shackles and Serpent's Skull as well.
>>
>>47309904
What I said was " 'notoriously diverse and egalitarian' people with formerly oppressed groups teaming together?"

And he asked me for an example.

That is a lot more specific than 'diverse individuals team up to face a threat'

Hell, I could've specified against a tyrant. Tyrant comes up like 10 times in the three line summaries of Paizo's AP
>>
>>47309889
Skull and Shackles was really good, but you still end up fighting against the LE-meanies who are trying to hamper your freedom and self-expression.

You don't really get to be pillaging/rampaging pirates, you spend most of the AP fighting other pirates and eventually fighting Thrune like in every third AP Paizo writes.

Also, killing the Hurricane King for no discernible reason whatsoever.

How about the anybodies/nobodies of RotRL, Shattered Star, Jade Regent, and Legacy of Fire? I don't think you need a specific alignment group for any of that. Bad guy in Legacy of Fire isn't even that evil, he's just a creep.
>>
>>47309904
>You just described every campaign that has ever been written or played. It's the basis of how a group gets together.

You even talk about the rebellion in a Starbucks.
>>
>>47309942
Wasn't he going to sell out the Shackles for a position of power under Chelish rule? Also, he was old and you were capable of defeating him, what more reason do pirates need?
>>
>>47309936
'Notoriously diverse and egalitarian' is horrifically generic.

Molthune is a country that's ran by a military dictatorship that takes anyone willing to be a soldier and follow orders and in exchange grants rights and privileges based on that service. It's a great excuse for a group to get together while playing non-traditional races.

And the point is that Paizo tells all of it's APs from one perspective only. It'd be nice to have some variety and have the players be the head of a group that wasn't CG or out to make life better for everyone, just themselves. Most adventuring parties are like that anyway. concerned with their own benefit before that of others.

Molthune is just an entire military/country ran with a Murderhobo mindset.
>>
>>47309949

>Jade Regent

That's part of the reason why I like Jade Regent so much; the party isn't necessarily good or evil, they're just trying to put the pretty little athletic ass of a righteous heir on her foreign throne. It's classic adventure without the overt undertones of, "YOU ARE GOOD, THEY ARE EVIL."

That said, the Jade Regent and his cronies *are* evil, though this takes a new spin when the adventurers aren't trying to topple him due to tyranny, but because he's simply undeserving of the throne.

The Hurricane King wasn't, that was one of the Free Lords the players kill, the same one who Shanghaied them in the first adventure.

The build-up of the AP is the threat of the Chelaxian invasion which is handled in the first three pages of the final adventure.

The rest of the climax is the players going after the Hurricane King for no reason. Piraty, yes, but there's no lead-up or reasoning for it in the plot.

>If you want to play disguise master with those stats play a wizard and just pick up illusions.

Disguises are those things that magic fails at IMO. Especially if you use a glammer or illusion spell since those things incur a will save to disbelieve and results in an automatic social failure and trigger combat as opposed to a sense motive vs bluff from a simple disguise wherein a mere failure just brings you down a peg or two.

You're thinking about the APG.

The ACG is "welcome to sucking the arcanist's dick" central.

It's better than saying "you can only take material from ACG, including feats and classes".

Which someone has done before. Although that was the APG instead.
>>
>>47310949
>including feats
Fuck me that's a bad idea.

>>47310945
I understand the Arcanist is pretty good, and someone suggested not playing with it, but if I did that, the only arcane power that would be available would be in the Bloodrager.
>>
>>47310966

Nah, you've also got the Skald.
>>
>>47310945
>>47310947
Well, then. That's going to be an issue.

Was that the Hybrid Classes book, then?
>>
>>47310987
Oh yeah. Bard is arcane in this game. Forgot.

Yeah.

Two questions, need help.

First, if I had a dragon pistol, which has a fifteen-foot cone range, and I put Distance on it, would that make it a thirty-foot cone, or a fifteen-foot cone stretched to thirty feet?

Second, I made a hobgolin Rogue specializing in using a whip, bastard sword and gastraphetes.
I'm using an Eversmoking Bottle and Goz Mask:
http://www.pathfindercommunity.net/magic-items/wondrous-items/goz-mask
http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic-items/wondrous-items/wondrous-items/a-b/bottle-eversmoking

I figured using the two would render everything around me blind, allowing me to sneak attack willy-nilly. DM says no, entirely fucking me, and the rest of the team over for the remainder of the battle. Who's right?

For the group or the setting?

The resolution isn't the best, and yes it's a Skyrim mod, but these are still the best depictions of catfolk I've seen (insomuch as they aren't as sexploitable as others and still manage to look good).
>>
>>47310966
Right? I don't remember the exact details because it was a while ago, but one anon had a game where his available material was the CRB OR the APG. As in he could only use feats/classes/whatever from the APG and none from the CRB.
>>
>>47311094
Those look ugly as fuck, famalam.

Why not, it's a slow thread tonight

For the group, we've met a NPC gunslinger
>>
>>47310916
Well, I do have a Warpriest character on the bench I've been wanting to play, so I'd be okay with it.
>>

Dragon Pistol: Yes.
Smoke Bomb Tactic: Useless. Winds, Scent, Blindsight, and other abilities fuck you over.

That's some bull shit.

Can you play a Bolt Ace?

How do I into optimization?
>>
>>47310945
Oh then I would want to be the arcanist in that scenario.
>>
>>47311242
Depends on what you want to do. Also, optimization does not always equal good, it just improves your chances.

And remember, when all else fails, Wizard

Alright then let me tell you the tell of a Dwarf Fighter named Felix

>The Island of Troy
> Marth appears(Clavier, wyvern mount) "Ah The Adventures Guild, I hope you saw my notice"
>We were discussing whether we should go or not
>"There will be loot" Guild is all in
>Five days later we hit shore and we head off

From a mechanical perspective, there's no reason why this combo wouldn't work. What did your DM rule didn't work? That the mask didn't protect you from the smoke? Because that's exactly what the mask is supposed to do.
>>
>>47311304

Yes to which?

"Total concealment does not count for rogue's sneak attacks, and you're going to be right against them anyways."
>Using a whip, with all the Mastery and Serpent's Lash.
>Fifteen feet.

In all honesty, the game had been dragging on for about three hours, and I didn't want to pick a fight over this.

I remember for an old concept I was considering trying to get a particular low-level outsider to accompany him, was thinking of it again today and can't remember what it was and can't find it looking through the outsider lists on the pfsrd.

It's image was something like a ball of light with "wings" that looked like strips of metal layed out in an intricate pattern with gaps in them. Does anyone have any idea what it might have been?

Hurf, new thread. That's what I get for posting while still skimming through the thread.
