Let's talk about dice, /tg/. What are good brands, what should you look out for. Thus far I've been using the somewhat better selection of Chessex dice, but some of their sides are uneven and the numbers are often a bit off.

If someone can recommend online shops etc for a yuroanon, particularly in Finland, I'm all ears.

I'm going to go ahead and bump my thread now.

I have hundreds and hundreds of dollars of Chessex dice because I always liked the way they worked. I wasn't until relatively recently that I heard complaints about their balance, but I wasn't too worried because I'm not gambling and being a bit off isn't a big deal, if I don't know what numbers they favor. I mean, if I need a huge sample size to detect the bias, who cares? Then I did a roll-test on one of my speckled d20s and the bias was so strong I had to revise my opinion. It's one thing to have a die that's off by a little bit; it's another to have it roll half as many 20s as it should. That's a real problem. And so, I feel like most of my dice collection has been invalidated. It sucks.

I get mostly transparent dice because I am just too paranoid I end up getting dice like that. At least if you can see through them you can see the bubbles that cause this issue, so you know they're good without testing them.
>>
Standard production dice tier list:

Top tier:
Gamescience

Acceptable tier:
Wiz dice
Chessex transparent

Shit tier:
Chessex opaque

what about that one old autistic dice guy whose videos were popular on here a few years ago?

He explained how his dice were best because they had sharp corners and weren't tumble polished, but they all have a small defect from the mold process.
>>
>>47268236
Gayscience is murrikan though, and they're hard to get over here.
>>
>>47268368
That's gamescience and it's a scam. I own a bunch of them because I fucking love the hard-edged look and for regular use, there really is no difference.
Unless you use the absolute shittiest dice available, the kind made of brittle, probably poisonous material that actually starts to splinter off after a few months of use, your dice will probably roll fine. If you are afraid of bias, just switch through sets, because let's be real, everyone picks up at least two or three sets over the years.

Gamescience.
>they all have a small defect from the mold process
ALL dice by ANY manufacturer has these. Most run them through a rock tumbler to smooth them out, but this has no precision and they're all oblong w/ unevenly worn edges.

Gamescience expects you to shave it yourself with a hobby knife like it's the 1970's.

>>47268469
>gamescience
>I fucking love the look
>they're a scam
I fail to see how they're a scam if they're the only ones selling the kind of dice you like the look of.

But people have actually tested these and they do work.
Picture is UNPREPPED gamescience dice with the nub opposite the 14. You're supposed to shave it off, and the guy who ran this experiment did not.
Regardless, you can see how much more consistent they are.

>the gamescience meme

Reminder that all dice start life on a sprue, but GS dice are twisted off the way little kids do instead of being sliced and then polished like other dice. GS skips half the mfg process and ask for more cash. Nice work, fanboiz.
>>
>>47271988
>GS asks for more cash
They use a better plastic. Chessex don't wear out like this, they're already rounded. Sharp edged dice are prone to chipping, which is what you'll see in the older Armory dice.

There's a nice video comparing a GS with a non-GS die for wear and tear.

BUT Zocchi sold out to gamestation and the quality from them was so shitty Zocchi bought it back. That was the brief "gamescience dice are going out of production!" phase in which a bunch of fa/tg/uys bought out the last of the overstock and relisted them for 40$+ a pack.

So be weary about buying Gamescience off ebay/amazon/etc.
The "new" production under Zocchi still hasn't covered all of the old colors yet.

Have you tried searching "Gamescience dice online Europe"?

Because literally the first result on Google is a site that sells Gamescience dice in Europe for pretty much the same price they are here in the US, cheaper in some cases.

Interesting on the dice roll results. I have some old 'low impact' plastic D&D dice from the late 1970's - they're damn near spherical due to the edges wearing off on them. The D20's will roll for ages before finally stopping.
>>
>>47273877
This is exactly why Gamescience uses different plastic
>>
>>47273898
Heh! The 'Not-GameScience, edges chip' in >>47273859's pic is exactly the type and what my decades old dice look like.

I thought gamescience stopped selling dice? Is it back in production? I like them the most for the hand feel.
>>
>>47274088
They're back under the original owner. He's got more sets on the way
http://www.gamesciencedice.com/Polyhedral-7-Die-Set_c_4.html

He sold out but the new people were so terrible he bought it back.

Cheapest "casino" d6 too, not oversized. About 15$ for a 12 pack of d6. Though for some reason the first color he's brought back for the d6 packs is purple. Eh

How about Chessex marble though? That's what I use, no complaints so far.
