So what best strategy for chaos in multiplayer? Spam bombardiers?
>>
>>47197182
Use stealth to break contact and let you shoot them when they can't shoot you. Stay away and use long range shit. You are the longest range and sneakest race.
>>
>>47197359
What skills and upgrades, what ships?
>>
>>47197396
not that playstyle, but i've been having great fun with 2 slaughters with extra boost gauge, camo, no boost reveal, AP ammo, khorne favour, sensor disruptor and gauge recharge skill, being able to disappear and strike out of nowhere when they least expect it is amazing fun.
>>
daily reminder that playing IN is like dressing like a slut

you're asking for it
>>
>>47197463
Why do you need AP ammo when chaos mostly have those laser that count amour as 25% anyways? How well sensor distruptors work?
>>
>>47197491
Albeit a slut with a very big, reinforced, strap on
>>
next update when, the game is very sad to fight eldar in atm for better or worse
>>
>be IN
>match against chaos
>bring 2 mars BCs to ward off the inevitable bomber spam
>think I'm gold
>launch fighters and wait for the BEES
>BEES go after my lead dauntless
>burn retros and put it behind both mars BCs
>suddenly, torpedo launch to starboard
>it's way off course
>i lel
>suddenly, fighter screen runs after errant torpedoes
>bombers power through escort turrets via sheer weight of numbers
>dauntless reduced to less than half life in an instant

Sasuga chaos

because every little helps? i'm considering swapping it out for asteroid shields though
>>
>>47198088
Asteroid shields seems fun, too bad you some times get map with no asteroids.
Also you get no damage from asteroids while shield up or even when hes down?
>>
>>47198088
Considering that chaos ships have the lowest damage per minute weapons in the game every little doesn't just help, every little is absolutely necessary.

Unless bombers, then you're fine.
>>
>>47198146
But doesn't AP ammo works on 3 click or less and you don't want to be that close?
>>
>>47198144

Kek

I love moments like this in game, whether it's me or the enemy. It's always fun spawning in a gas cloud and luring the enemy into ramming distance with escorts.

>>

>>
Just got a Dominator, what cruiser should I get next?
>>
>>47199037
Either a tyrant or another dominator
Both have very powerful broadsides, it' sustain that one has torpedoes and the other a nova cannon.
Last, but not least, you could get a gothic, it becomes a very nice lance-boat, with good support capabilities with the lance range upgrade
>>
>>47199141
Thanks anon
>>
>>47198265
i'm also trying to pick my battles, and hit them with augur disruptor before attacking then running
>>
Why all the hate on the Dictator? I've had decent luck with it as a 2nd place lineship behind a Dominator and before a Gothic. It's got enough macros to support the gunline, can take a ramming spur and has torps, and it's ordinance bays let your line of battle reach out and hurt people/provide fighter cover.

The dictator is fine, IMO, but what it can do, the Mars can do better, albeit at a higher price tag.

It's fine for smaller point games, but any time you can fit a Mars in, it's probably a better choice. I still got one though, and named it Macharius, for reasons I hope would be obvious.
>>
>>47201535

Same here on the naming. I just don't care for the Mars really. I'm not a huge nova fan, and I like being able to ram. Plus in a 600pt game I'd rather have 4 line ships rather than 3.

I can see how the Mars can be better at times. I had a game a couple nights ago against 2 Admech Mars'. They raped my ships hard. But still...I picture your pic when I deploy my Dictator
>>
Can confirm that >>47185217 and >>47185364 works.
Keeping Vandez alive in the last mission is a pain because he won't even try to avoid the PK's ray of Death.

Maybe it's just because I love fighting at long range?

>>
What's the best strategy for the campaign in general? Is each battle you don't do a permanent loss? Can you skip main missions for a turn? What should one prioritize?
>>
>>47202499
If you want easy time go for ramming ships, get close, use your powerful broadsides. Torpedo all you got at start in enemy direction.
Killing insubordination captain denies exp, so better don't.
>>
>>47202499
just let exterminatus happen it is the emperors will.

prioritize on saving hive worlds, cardinal, prison, schola, and gateway worlds are of secondary concern to you if you wish to save battlefleet gothic.

The less deployments your have the better that way you can conserve your ships and avoid costly upgrades.

Lose as many aritfact as you can, they backfire on you in a big way.

Under no circumstance should you ever ram or fire on the warma- I mean Abaddon's glorious temple with massed torpedoes

The best strategy is to win fleet battles and not lose ships. Try to avoid losing, as this is bad. With this advice you should do well next time.
>>
If recaster-anon is still here, don't forget that there are some eldar forgeworld ships on ebay right now, and I would buy at least one of each light cruiser, and some transports. They'll be over in about 14 hours.
>>
How can we fix the Nova Cannon /bfg/?
>>
>>47208648
it's pretty alright as it is, basically useless when you get to brawling and not enough by itself to bombard the enemy the entire match.

It seems OP when your trashed light cruiser tries to disengage so it can warp out and gets annihilated by a nova blast, but I don't think that's unfair considering the cheese other fleets are capable of.

Only one mission is impossible to win, the one where the first Blackstone Fortress appears (even if it gets to -100hp, it'll still warp out). All other missions are winnable. I managed to keep both the Hand and the Eye first time through on normal difficulty. Just ram everything.
>>
>>47211281
You can win it, just make it warp out before it get to point, not hard to do, just start torpedoing it at very beginning. Sure you can't ram this thing but it burns good.
>>
>>47211327
Well you can it just ends very badly for you.

Dose free mines tho
>>
>>47211281

>>
>>47204337

Emperor. Gives you fighter coverage to deal with the huge amount of attack craft nids can put out while providing ranged support for taking out swarms or at least putting blast markers on more important ships to cut their speed. It'll be hanging back enough that the +5 armour isn't as much of an issue unless you're already fucked.
>>
>>47212269
Thanks man, had my eye on the Apocalypse for the cannon, but wasn't sure if it was worth it.
>>
>>47212323

2010 update nova cannon is tricky because of the scatter dice. Chances are there are enough nids you hit something, but being forward arc means you're probably closing distance on a fleet that wants to close with you. The apoc has a nasty lance broad side for when/if you get stuck in, but doesn't have much to do until then.

Oberon trades too much weapon battery firepower and range for 2 lance shots and less attack craft. The Victory class isn't total hot garbage, but it isn't doing anything special against nids, maybe poping an escort or two before they close. Retribution could work in some cases, has a lot of damage output and can throw a strong sucker punch torpedo salvo but I've yet to face a nid fleet that wasn't taking advantage of being able to launch twice as many attack craft so the Emperor's fighter coverage just seems more effective.

You might want to look at the Dominion class battlecruiser. Its got 4 lances at 45cm and 4 attack craft at 260pts.
>>
>>47212470
Huh, missed that battlecruiser when I was looking over the rulebooks, seeing it side by side with the Jovian, the Jov's extra hanger bays look tempting if I wanted to forgo the fighter coverage on the battleship front.

Not sure about the Victory as it is, seems too similar to the Apoc' to me.

I'd love to try and make an Oberon, but the only player in my area does Nids', so you're probably right on that front.

Alright, so Emperor it is, I have nothing against it anyway. Dominion looks tempting, but I dunno' man, the Jov' looks fun if I just wanted to go full carrier against this guy. I have a soft spot for the Dictator as is.
>>
What should I do if I want to have the maximum amount of boarding actions as ork? All line ships with grots, waaaagh and shokk attacks? Or everything into escorts and one line waaaagh ship?
>>
>>47212738
Use Waaaaagh! and Goffs favor.
>>
>>47212802
So, all line ships? I'm not sure, but I think escorts can't have favors.
>>
>>47212885
Escorts can't even board, man.

If you want max boarding, go with lines equipped with Taunt and Waaagh with Goffs favor attached, it gives a plus one to any boarding done by said ship, attached to the normal Ork bonus to boarding and Waaaagh, you can string up to five boarding attempts per ship.
>>
>>47205189
Make Armageddon Great Again
>>
When playing Chaos MP, which is a better battleship: Despoiler or Desolator? Why?
>>
>>47213712
Despoiler.

Overall, it has more weapons, launch bays, and forward facing guns. It fits far better with the Chaos playstyle than the Desolator does.

The Desolator has the torpedo spread, which is nice and it's only one of like...two Chaos ships with torps, but torpedoes aren't Chaos' game at all. Eldar can just dodge them, Imperials have meltas and faster torpedoes, Orks, like the IN, can fire more and send boarding ones. So you can't really outdo them at their own game.

Secondly, the Desolator has merged batteries, these do plenty of damage and all, but each boarding attempt that takes out a weapon does that much more harm because unlike the Despoiler, each weapon isn't its own thing.

Desolator is a more frontlines style broadsides ship that can kite and occasionally fire off some torps. Despoiler can kite as well as giving powerful forward fire and has a whopping four launch bays. It's more well rounded.
>>
With Imperial Navy you need a lot of skill to make it work.

With Orks I don't care the traktor beam thingy is way to much fun. Especially when you destroy escorts and light cruisers making them kiss other ships.
>>
>>47214599

So can anyone confirm me that rate of fire == reload speed? Not really logical.

Also, is there any difference between a light macro turret on a cobra class and its double counterpart on the sword class?
Does the doubled number of attacks means twice the damage?

Technically, yes, standard macro turret will shot only one shot, while the double will shoot two
>Inb4 Lord Admiral Obvious

Rate of fire is tied with the reload speed, yes.
The lower the number, the higher rof it has.
>>
>>47215711
Thanks, they should rename it to reload speed so. Where I can make this suggestion?

So, the Cobra is only worth it i I plan to use the torpedoes right? If I just want more raw firepower I should just go with the frigates?
>>
>>47215738
Well, if you want some alpha damage and don't mind microing/setting ships on auto torpedoing and then microing them enough by swinging them a bit here and there, then go with Cobras.
If you want to go with long range artillery, pick Firelances.
If you want close range dps support, then swords.

Firestorms are nice all rounders with the lance+macro turret.
Yes.
Swords are shield killers, high rate of fire, double macro turret, they are also very good against Eldar.
Then, Cobras, nice combo torpedo-turret, but before it I'd prioritise deploying a Widowmaker, because it has torpedoes and an enormous detection range.

>Firestorm: all rounder

>Sword: "fuck your shield, and fuck you elder scum"

>Cobra: Like the firestorm but with torps

>Widowmaker: "HA! I SEE YOU!" Perfect detection range and torps.

In the end, if you wanna do a torp spam, get also a widowmaker.

Praise the Emperor
>>
>>47215835
Id personally recommend picking the shield pen upgrade for lance, the lance range upgrade and then navigational shields so you can hide your artillery fleet inside a asteroid field.

>>
So here is my idea for how to buff the IN favor, instead of summoning cobras it summons a mine field.
>>
>>47215738
With macros reload and rof are the same. They are breech loaded not magazine fed.
>>
>>47216108
That won't work. Either it you could put the minefield directly on a ship and it would just be "target ship takes damage", or it has a cast radius like micro-jump and it never hits at all because people dodge it. If you gave it a timer like a bomb... then it's just another bomb. Why take it over Mechanicus, for bomb+upgrade?

The only time I've ever seen people hit mines is when Orks are around: either they Red Button, and hit one they couldn't see, or they traktor someone into them.

What the Navy really need, is a better passive buff. Having a loyalty buff on the second most loyal faction is pretty rubbish. Comparing it to the Inquisition's crew point in everything (including commissar) shows how rubbish it is.
>>
>>47216199
So they either must make the shit insubordination does even worse or make all factions more likely to flee the battle.
>>
>>47216199
The idea is they take like a couple of seconds to arm so they can't just be used as point and click damage and what not. The primary use for them I would see is fortifying an advantageous position, such as a gas cloud. Force them to navigate around your mines while filling them up with torps and plasma macros
>>
>>47216267
That sounds good.
But what about ability to summon stationary gun platforms?
>>
>>47216199
I'd like a more efficient and effective macro batteries.

Its the god damn Imperial Navy act like a disciplined bunch.

Or an additional special order.

Make the favour feel like the might of the Imperial Navy is working inside your ships.

You can do so much with it. My personal favorite is if you see a minefield in the center, approach in line with it, launch torps to one side to force your enemy to move, then fling him back towards the torps or mines, depending on which way they move.

Also fun for flinging Eldar around, if the little bastards ever get into your front arc, of course.

I got to play Eldar Pinball once in all my games, and it was the greatest achievement of my life.

>Bring BC, CL and two light cruisers, all with tractor beams, and some escorts
>Knife ear git brings a Cruiser and aurora's
>Immediate move towards the asteroid field, ships spaced evenly but still close enough to support
>Eldar player splits his ships, attempting to go for flanks, but cant because of massed asteroid fields on my port side
>His cruiser comes in and tries to torp my BC
>THE FOOL
>BRB it and the kroozer to its right and slightly behind, moving directly at the cruiser
>BC snags it with the traktor and rams it
>It spins off
>Cruiser snags it with the traktor, rams it again
>Dead cruiser

Guys is the campaign supposed to be shitting on you?

The beginning fucked me over with priority missions which let the orks grow and they're almost at full bar. Chaos is almost at full bar.

At most I have gotten only 3 deployments and many turns 1 was spent on a priority mission. Orks and Chaos have about half of the Gothic sector (I'm on turn 17 I think) and the campaign let's them take so many damn worlds.

At this rate I'm fucked. What do?

I've just done the mission where you fight a Blackstone Fortress for the first time, and won. (though of course it escapes because you can't kill it. Got it to 0 HP easily though: no turrets and slow movement are massive downsides, and taunting through mines did the rest.)

Afterward Ravensburg announces that it was a distraction, Vandez flew to Brigia to warn them and died, and Abaddon stole Brigia's fortress. But while Brigia has lost it's fortress (and space station) I still control it, but Lukitar has died. Not just lost, but exterminatus'd.

Lunar is a meme that has both lances and macros but doesn't really excel at either.
Gothic has lances and nothing but lances, so it can work as long range fire support platform.
Then there is the one with nova cannon and macros that can work both long range bombardier and close range gunboat.

Not choosing designs best suited for the currently prevailing Imperial Navy engagement doctrine is tantamount to deliberately lowering the combat effectiveness of your fleet.
Deliberately lowering the combat effectiveness of your fleet is sabotage.

The Mars? It does a lot of things and can handle itself in a fight. Just don't put it at the front of your battle line and you'll be fine. It's the one ship in the Imperial Navy roster that benefits the most from Inquisition favor.

>>

Yep, and trust the Eldar Prince.
>>
>>47232074
Compared to AP macros on a Tyrant or a Dominator? Absolutely. The advantage of the Gothic is in being able to do full damage from any range regardless of other considerations like facing 75 armour or long distance affecting accuracy. It is thus excellent both at whittling down 75 armour capital ships and at finishig escorts off. Plus, since it's going to be fighting from 6-9k anyway, you can drop the usual manoeuvre and defense upgrades and skills for support one.
>>
>>47231338
>I honestly think a decent IM fleet takes on anything in the game

Gothic is great. It can stand back at 6k (though I'd highly recommend getting the extended range after 50% shield dmg) and really whittle down ships. And since its kind of standing back you can use most of you orders on Lock on Target further increasing its damage even further and with a good possibility of crits with a fully maxed gunner crew. I love it

The Apoc has shorter range on its lances but more of them. Apoc is 30cm port/starboard lance batteries at str 6, but it can take a thruster critical in exchange for 60cm range while locked on. The Victory is 60cm port/starboard, but at str 4. The Victory class is faster though, and can change its nova cannon to a str 9 torpedo.

>>
>>47231279
Nopetge dominator has torpedoes, you're thinking of the mars.
>>
So I've got up to the first Eldar mission in the Armada campaign, and I've realised I've got a second cruiser slot available. I've got a Tyrant which is a wonderful gunship.

Now Gothics are cheap enough that I can pair a Tyrant and a Gothic in 300 points, but I think they are a little ho-hum for how I've been playing. I've been doing a lot of manoeuvre and ramming, which they can do, but they aren't exactly close brawlers.

The Dictator would be a reasonable choice as a fleet carrier, though it's a little expensive and I couldn't field both at 300 points. I'd prefer an Overlord to a Mars too.

I'm kinda paralysed by choice.
>>
Also, being an idiot I accidentally saved over my original campaign. I was struggling against the big ork space hulk, what are some tips? It just seems to wreck any torps heading its way.
>>
>>47239133
Dominator.
>>
>>47239133

>>
>>47239133
i vote for gothic, the tyrant/gothic combo is very effective almost any opponent
>>
>>47239133
The Tyrant is as good as you will get for a brawler cruiser, I hope you've put a power ram on it.

Have you considered the Dominator? The Nova cannon is wonderful after you've traded some shots at mid range. You get two battle cruiser options, make one of them a Mars, but don't spoil your cruiser line with a ship that's barely adequate for shooting or carrying craft.
>>
>>47239276
Tell me about the Lunar, why does it do so well?
>>
>>47239232
>>47239458
I picked the Dominator out of the gate originally because I didn't want to micro the Nova, and then I found torps and ramming prows so effective that I didn't bother with anything equipped with a Nova afterwards.

Maybe I should bite the bullet and have a play.
>>
>>47239524
Jack of all trades, master of none. I guess the idea is that as a mixed platform it does reasonably stacking damage types against an opponent, and you aren't tempted to put weapon upgrades on it so you end up with a good support cruiser.

I picked the **Tyrant** out of the gate

It's not so hard, as long as you have enough combustion to turn you can hit an unshielded ship hard or completely expose a shielded one. I've melted some poor sods' escort packs with a good combo of disruption bomb and Nova.

Of course, sometimes your shot misses completely, and sometimes the Emperor guides your weapon better than you do.

I'm not a big fan of the Mars. IMHO, IN just doesn't get enough launch bays to play the strike craft game. With Chaos, their CL has a pair and their BC has two pairs. That allows them to overcome most turrets and/or fighter screens through sheer mass. But just a single pair on a BC? You're better off with the Overlord, and if you really want a Nova Cannon, the Dominator is a fine ship.

Okay, I finally need advice. The Ork Space Hunk is slowly raping me every time I try this. I get my three heaviest ships, put them as far apart as possible from the start, and wail on the damn thing with Nova/torpedoes/bombers while trying to lead it on with the one allied ship. Lowest I ever brought this thing down to was like 20%. How'd you deal with this monster?
>>
>>47245284
I rammed it. I rammed the hell out of it. Two ships destroyed themselves in glorious ramming, and then I rammed it with a third.

Damn, I just finished the campaign, with 3 BF in my control, that was a satisfying ending.

Pretty good campaign overall.

But what are the Blackstones Fortresses exactly? What 6 of them are supposed to do? who is Morianna?

>>
>>47246749
Blackstone Fortresses are ancient Eldar/Old One weaponry created to destroy the C'tan, the beings that seduced the Necrons into becoming robots. They have intense warp fuckery and energy to deal with the C'tan, but it works fine against other targets.

6 of them are just really nasty.

Morianna is a bit of a mystery. No one is sure who the fuck she is, the campaign indicates her as being the Deceiver or possibly the Deceiver acting as her in order to get Abby' to make a move on the Blackstone Fortresses in order to get them destroyed in the ensuing war. Thereby wiping out a threat to the C'tan and the Necrons.

tl:dr, the war is over ancient psychic cannons because an ancient robot god might be telling an armless warlord to go hogwild with them and Starkiller Base.
>>
>>47246793
Yeah, at the end Abaddon still still escapes with 2 of them, while the other 4 are destroyed right?
That's weird he got control of them despite me having secured the 2 artifacts.

>>47246849
right

it is weird, but that's just the devs not wanting to code in unwinnable fights

He loses one in the 13th black crusade, when the necrons warp in and fuck it up
He almost loses the second when the IMPERIAL NAVY decides to just torp spam it from max range because they have no turret coverage

6k range.
Use torpedoes.
Don't ram unless you're sure to kill it.

>It just seems to wreck any torps heading its way.
Fire topedoes with your smaller ship to bait him into using fighters then once the fighters go back into the space hulk, use the torpedoes on your other ships.

Yeah, there are a few planets you can't save no matter what. Whatever Exterminatus target the Inquisition pick first, the Planet Killer firing on Savaven, Lukitar after the first Blackstone Fortress attack (you can win the battle, but you still lose the world).
>>
>>47246849
>That's weird he got control of them despite me having secured the 2 artifacts.
To be fair the artifacts were warp related so there's a good chance he could have remplaced them with a lot of sorcerers.

/tg/, I need help gitting gud at carriers. When should you use bombers, and when should you use assault boats? How often do fighters need relaunching?
>>
Is XP tied to renown? Are those times I've not bothered to bring along a Dauntless helping me out with XP?
>>
>>47248804
Fighters need relaunch every time they get blown up.

Bombers are good to be sent first to get enemy hull few hundred points down so they wont have so many turrets, then use boarding bots till most of their shit is blown up and then use bombers to finish the job.
>>
>>47248804
Which faction, what's your fleet lineup, and who are you fighting??

But when does that happen? I see them shoot down torps and just keep circling, then later a wave of assault boats gets through, and I look and they're all gone. No idea when/why they went away.

>But when does that happen?
When they get shot by turrets and enemy fighter escorts. Unfortunately there is no clear cut way of automating this.

>Chaos, mostly Hellbringers with maybe a Styx vs everyone

Overall guidelines: bombers whenever vs escorts, orkz, and ships with troop value favours. Assault boats in coordinated waves vs big threats.

>Eldar
All bombers all the time. They're unlikely to reach anyway, and with elves being as flimsy as they are, you might stand a better chance of critting with two bomber hits than with one assault action roll. Many elves also take troop value crew or favours, unless it's a SH meme fleet.

>IN
Bomb everything smaller than a CC. pay attention to the Mars, neutralize it first to strip the entirety of their fighter cover, then have a field day on the rest with dreadclaws. Remember to launch in waves of at least 4 bays at a time.

>Chaos
Ramming Speed. They'll have excellent fighter coverage most of the time. If they don't, and they're not Nurgle or Khorne, you have a good chance of hitting those assault actions. Otherwise, bombers and lances.

>Orkz
Bombers. Assault actions don't do much against Orkz, and they tend to fly in bunches, increasing the turret fire your flyers will take. Launch bombers in waves of 4+ bays at a time, ideally you want all your bombers to hit at the same time.
>>
>>47249819
Thanks, that's all very helpful! I can kite with the best of them, I can just never work out if my attacks are the right choices

>When they get shot by turrets and enemy fighter escorts.Unfortunately there is no clear cut way of automating this.
Ok, so they can shoot down an infinite number of torpedos without landing? Good to know.
If fighters are on auto, when do they launch? When they get shot down?
>>
>>47249943
They launch automatically whenever they're off cooldown and there aren't any active fighters left for that ship.

It's almost impossible to beat Eldar in Assassination missions unless you're Eldar yourself.
And Chaos relies on lances so heavily that it's almost impossible for them to deal with Eldar unless they dedicate half their fleet to it, with launch bays and macrocannons.
Conversely, how the fuck are Orks and Imperium supposed to win Planetary Assault when if they take nothing but LC's they'll be shot to shit and picked apart? Imperium can't win because Dauntlesses aren't much good unless you're doing nothing but leveraging the Mk1's prow lance.
Orks can't win because if the objective spawns behind them they can't turn around fast enough to get to it.
That whole game mode is unbelievable bullshit.
>>
>>47255194
>Dauntlesses aren't much good unless you're doing nothing but leveraging the Mk1's prow lance.
Confirmed scrub, Dauntless are the most underrated ships of the game.

>Orks can't win because if the objective spawns behind them they can't turn around fast enough to get to it.
Ork have no problem turning with the thruster upgrade, however they are slow as fuck and this is why they can't reach the objective in time.
