First, I'll devour and replace the reporters. Then arrange for their "deaths", like one I'll fake leaving the country as. Another, I'd chop off my own limbs (which has his dna) and frame the wife for his murder, and another will be straight up "suicide".

Then I'll replace someone with connection to the Budget Rangers, maybe even their boss. And I'll get rid of them through budget cuts, "promotions", fire Blue for sexual harassment and so forth. Hell, if there's no monster activity, I could have them disbanded, or replaced by my mooks. And then I'll have my mooks regularly "defeat" various monsters, thus raising my standing.

Obviously, I'm not a fighter. Fighting's a last resort. If I MUST fight, I'd rather do sniping through shadow step, camo and bio laser. Otherwise, I'd rather run to plot another day.

I'm the first anon you responded to. I'll admit, I've seen my fair share of fetish-type shit CYOAs, and I've enjoyed the ones that piqued my fancy. I should be a little more objective with my criticism.

That said, it's shitty because like >>47144594 said, the scenario does everything just short of setting you up to fail, and then actively tries not to incentivize success by making it come with a thousand and one caveats that more or less don't let you play the game with the goal of not getting violated without forcing you to do a lot of other shady shit. Which, would be forgivable, if it didn't shoehorn you into a playstyle entirely based around participating in the thing you were trying to avoid in the first place one way or another. This is the difference between Dark Souls difficulty and playing a bullet hell with a blindfold. One is a fun challenge, the other is technically feasible, but utterly implausible.

I think it's kind of fascinating. CYOA are, by and large, power fantasies.
Rapture Academy is a CYOA where, despite the huge number of options and potential character builds you could create, you are nearly powerless.

Like, you can be as strong as an ogre, or cast spells to bind demons, or have a wide variety of supernatural powers, but against the magnitude of organized, systemic oppression that simply isn't enough of an edge.

The entire appeal to it is that you're helpless, and so you don't have to feel guilty about all the kinky sex your forced to have. Instead of a power fantasy, it's a powerlessness fantasy.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad CYOA. All CYOA are fetishy to an extent, this one is just (much) more blatant about it than most.

I don't think it is going to appeal to most people, though. Most people want CYOA to empower them, not the reverse.

I made a suggestion concerning Rapture Academy in the previous thread just before it closed. Ima repost it (w/ some edits) here, because I want to make sure the author sees it.

My concern with the CYOA: The powerlevel of a student is so far below that of a typical threats, and there is such a variety and number of such threats, that no single student--main character or not--can reasonable expect to prevail. This is even before considering how the ultimate source of the schools problems is systemic.

As such, the player is basically set up to fail.

My suggestion to address this:

A) Establish that while the player has 10 attribute points and 10 perk points, that other characters, students and teachers alike, actually have much less. Or, alternatively, while everyone else has 10 of each, the player actually has a higher number.

B) Give the player an additional benefit, perhaps from a list of such benefits. Make it clear that these benefits are not available to other students or faculty, and make the benefit powerful or useful enough to give the player a recognizable edge.

Note: both of these options have something specific in common: the player could opt out of them. Someone who actually wanted to play as rape bait (or wanted an impossible fight against cosmic and orwellian forces) can choose to forgo additional points or bonus.

As such, the CYOA would then have much more appeal to those who want a chance at "winning," while not losing any appeal to those that like it the way it is now.

In summary: the average student can not hope to triumph against the threats against them. So give the player the opportunity to be more powerful. Make it clear that you're allowed to be the main character.

I'm honestly not here to accuse a bunch of numbers on a screen of being actual criminals, and I apologize if my message got a little confused while I was trying to convey it. When I brought in the 'rape rape rape' bit, I was referring to how the game basically gives you 0 options to avoid dealing with it in a meaningful way, despite avoidance or at least non-participation being one of the stated goals of said game, and then makes it the central point of seemingly most of the game's activities. If we take the rumors section to be canon, then we can safely assume that everyone who actively works against the system is either kept in the dark, or too powerless of affect any real change. If we assume that it's really just rumors, then we have, at best, a well-known resistance that virtually everyone opposes and is more 'allowed' to exist than anything, and a faction that is too enraptured in the constant distractions paraded before them to really understand what's going on, let alone so much as protest.

I can't help but feel that the game is, at its very core, a one way track to becoming part of the school's various sex-crime rings, which I could just as easily read about. When you funnel the player into such a narrow couple of outcomes, the value of the game as an interactive medium is largely lost.

All in my very subjective and humble opinion on our Mongolian spear fishing newsletter, of course.

So, the big plan is to be the big scary Sunday-morning villain who makes a big show out of everything. I will make light of public safety measures and the organization will send out "heroes" (flashy mooks loyal to the organization) to stop me, and when I am "defeated" by these "heroes," the public will favor the organization as its prime protectors, aiding them in the PR department of world-domination.

The Budget Rangers and the Mahou Shoujo Squad become a problem when they interrupt our organizations "heroes" and take partial credit for my "defeat," which is unacceptable! But I won't kill them or permanently injure them because I'm friends with the Mahou Shoujo at school and I like the Budget Ranger's TV show.

Hence, I became the perfect juggernaut. The Budget Rangers nor the Mahou Shoujo have the raw power necessary to outright defeat me, since extremely high defense, teleportation, and double-dose regeneration is a fun immortality combo, and if I don't ever "push" them to their limits, they won't have the drive to go all out on me.

Because the organization wants to rule more than wasted cities, I maximize the mess and minimize the ruin, then get my mook squad to come with the getaway mobile and make a hasty retreat, all the while acting out the part of an evil villain recoiling from the organization's "heroes."

And during the off-days when I'm not destroying things, I'll attend school with the Mahou Shoujo and watch the Budget Ranger's TV show with my mooks, all while the organization takes over the world with the force of the media.

Hi anon, I'm doing a CYOA with a lot of text and a lot of options. I was planning to do 1280 x 3000 but I find that's going to result in fewer pictures to break up the text and the final product will probably have at least 6 or 7 pages.

So I'm toying with 1280 x 6000. Is that too high you think? Or is width the only thing that truly matters because you'll be scrolling down regardless?

First off I use camouflage with extreme speed to stalk the reporters, then pump them with full nightmare gas until they fall off or die accidentally, I also ask my organization to get me some drugs and leave them as evidence so the local polices would believe these guys smoked too much weeds, alternatively drugging them works too. Then I have fun with their wives/daughters/sisters.

Second I stalk the female members of Budget Rangers then use nightmare gas on them, making them remember how Blue Ranger harasses them. After some time they would become tired and distrusted at Blue Ranger. Then when they try to have a meeting together I release another nightmare gas and hit them at the same time, causing infighting between them. After this Budget Rangers would be dismissed for a long time enough.

The magical girl team is still studying at high school and there are more evil organizations so I send my drones to provoke them, while the magical girl team attacks the other evil organization mooks I pose in as a victim, suddenly transforming in front of them while begging them to not kill me. They would come to believe I was experimented on and try to help me. I stay at their secret base or home and weeping for my fate until one of them slaps me to shut up, I then pretend that I would try to control this power to help them, then we go on some simple missions. One day I would act like I'm in pain and reveal that I need to fuck someone or die painfully, I tell them it's okay I would go for some whores but they don't want me to be found out. This is a really good idea. The mysteries section was supposed to serve purpose B, rewarding you with unique advantages for taking the risk of investigating it, but I can see how the risk/reward ratio there isn't satisfying. Sure, you might pick the mystery that gives you the pro-wrath anti-lust super powerful daemon weapon, but you could just as easily end up captured by a monster. Leaving it up to chance like that probably won't be satisfying to the "burn it all to the ground" people.

I definitely agree with giving people more choice in what kind of game they want. Future versions will include a sliding scale for your power level, from "rapebait" to "normal student" to "Themis wins hands down" modes. This was sort of what I was going for anyway. I intended the average build to be like >>47148434 trying to expand their own power bases at the school and keep safe by feeding their schoolyard rivals to the demons to keep them and their friends safe. That was supposed to be the achievable goal, getting by yourself by becoming part of the system and climbing to the top of the shitheap. Actually trying to change things for the better was hard mode, and you're unlikely to bring the whole school to the ground rather than just save as many individuals as you can.

In a future version, I would play up two things from the RPG to ease the first swallow of this game:

1. The RPG was supposed to be a hentai comic simulator, where bad things happed to the female lead all the time

2. Girls could be just as bad as the guys. The only reason girls were victimized so often was the stacking of the deck in favor of the guys.

Another thing, maybe you could throw in a couple "Game Mode" options, one with equal-opportunity rape, and one for the tables being reversed completely and the boys being the victims. I'm not sure how much mileage that last option will get, but I'll shut up anybody who thinks you're a misogynist.

Also, the RPG has something about a futavirus? I think the omission here was intentional, futa isn't that well-recieved a kink at /cyoag/, but if you're going for a port of the RPG maybe just tuck it into a corner as an option.

Really, I think you just have to jack up the power fantasy a bit and make the rape stuff less 100% constant and more subtle. People already take the stuff in the Rumor section as WoG truth so maybe emphasize that for the illiterates. Maybe it make it so Bad Things are happening, but almost nobody is exactly sure what is happening to who. The actual ringleaders of the organized rape rings are upperclassmen boys who share the benefits of their conquests with their houses but that the houses aren't just rape factories.

That's pretty well covered by the descriptions of parents sending their children to school for one of several various reasons. Some sort of background option further describing your parents and giving different bonuses would be neat but not at all necessary.

Also, for power balancing I think one line in the attributes/skill category description along the lines of "Most students only have one or two things they're skilled in. However, since you're lucky/gifted/hard working you have 10 points to spend." or something like that and a bit of a rebalancing would be good. Not giving player the means to challenge the school immediately but definitely give them a leg up over the other students, even upperclassmen.
