>>
>>47125124
I'd mostly brought ships that were lance heavy or had abilities to make ramming easier. The Mars I was just spamming assault boats and nova cannon.
Lance boats seem to generally work better for me against Eldar. If I think a mission against them is going to end up with a lot of ships under repair I'll just bring stacks of Firestorms with upgrades lances.
>>
>>47125582
Auto-firing weapons have abysmal damage output compared to bombers, ramming, pulsars and even torpedoes and nova cannons, which is why IN players trying to broadside people get utterly raped by players from other races almost all of the time.
>>
>>47125817
imperial macros have outstanding damage, especially when in ap range. bombers are easily either dodged by silent running from range, or fighter intercepts, torpedos as well. not to mention their long cooldowns. pulsars are currently broken andare in line to be nerfed next patch, and novas scatter so much that unless you mass them they can barely get through shields, and no ram upgrades for nova ships. speaking of rams, if you are in ram range, you are also in ap cannon range, so why not both?
>>
>Imperial Navy vs orkz

>>
>>47125974
9k Gothic Lances with +50% shield damage do pretty good.

Remember they cant execute for insubordination like you can so you could start a chain reaction on their ships.
>>
>>47126320
they can if they get chained squigs, which any self respecting ork would get asap on their ships.
>>
>>47125958
>imperial macros have outstanding damage
No they don't. They have a moderately high amount of alpha damage but their damage per minute is an extremely mediocre 90 or 75 for plasma.

They're certainly better than lances (possibly except vs orks) but they're pretty rubbish overall and could probably do with a modest damage buff so bad imperial players on the forum would whine less about every other race needing to be nerfed.

Im currently running an ork carrier fleet with no squigs
its pretty fun when chaos fleets realise they dont have as many bombers as me but the chain warp out sometimes completely fucks my fleet up
makes the ships expensive too, 116 points for a light cruiser with no guns. still, lets me take suicide squads of brutes
>mfw 5 brutes BRB into an imperial battlecruiser
>>
>>47126152
So the secret to literally every matchup is "target their engines"?

>>47126176
If I try to stay anywhere remotely in range, I get chain-traktored into their fleet. It's extremely painful, for me. I want the hurting to stop.
>>
>>47126514
Chaos weapons batteries perform even worse. Which is ridiculously inconsistent with tabletop considering the high firepower of chaos batteries. The numbers in the game are really weird, they seem like they must have been derived from tabletop in some way, but half of the weapons are impossibly shitty, like they just pulled the number off a spreadsheet, but didn't check the in-game result to see if it did what they wanted it to E.G. missile pod turrets, which are so bad it beggars belief.
>>
>>47126794
Sometimes it's "target their generators, but also still ram them" if you're an ork.
>>
>>47126794
>So the secret to literally every matchup is "target their engines"?
pretty much. a ship critted engines can only limp around and is easily outmanouvered (and so killled)
except eldar who are slower as much and can use their boost often. target their generators instead which takes out the holofields I'm pretty sure.
>>
>>47126948
> target their generators instead which takes out the holofields
That's correct.
I usually go for the generators first since every race enjoys shields.
>>
Putting Imperial Navy favour on a couple of ships. What are some good upgrades to give the Cobra?
>>
>>47126976
eh. I mainly play IN and chaos and losing my sheilds doesn't bother me too much. It's when I'm too slow to play the kiting game or don't have the speed too manouver to my advantage in a brawl that I get my shit kicked in.
>>
>>47126924
I think it's somehow based on the trying to convert the total firepower of a tabletop ship into total damage per second/minute of a vidya ship, probably based on the basic cruisers.

I don't know that is was a very good way to do it.
>>
>>47127051

The faster torpedoes is the absolute first pick.

Beyond that, I go for the hull and shield boosts to help them survive marginally longer. The extra turrets upgrade could also be useful if you want them in more of an AA destroyer build.
>>
>>47127250
If you don't mind microing them a bit they can survive to launch more then one volly if you make them run the fuck away after they attack. Nothing like getting someone to chase a cobra away from a battle with a LC and give you 2 on 1 with your line ships on theirs.
>>
playing fast fleet orks against chaos is fun
>>
>>47126924
At least chaos can get away with having shitty weapons because they at least have speed and range and good carriers. Imperial ships are just bad.

>>
>>47128147
>They're easily accesible
They really aren't, though because they barely do any damage and have to micro like crazy to simultaneously be in range and at an appropriate angle to deal damage while trying to chase eldar/chaos kiters and evade ork-rape.

A decent IN player will lose out to a mediocre any-other-faction player because they have actually strengths to play to and reliable ways of dealing damage.

I've been doggedly sticking with my IN fleet recently to try and git gud with them but it does feel like they're a little underpowered.

You either have to go all out with long range firepower or all out with brawlers to be effective, but you usually can't because of limited slots. So you end up taking a mix and aren't powerful enough in any one area. Each part of your fleet gets picked off by Orks who steamroll or Chaos who can evade your stronger ships

Cruiser clash has shit victory conditions. It should be based on percentage of total points destroyed, based on ship HP lost.

The fact that one side is a defender is stupid, it's symmetric warfare.
>>
>>47131991
Anon, you still get points from killing/crippling his ships, besides, why didn't you split your force and try to come at him from two sides?

I agree with you that the concept of attacker/defender in cruiser clash is a dumb mechanic. That's a fault with the game, not players. You shouldn't hold it against a player who is probably outnumbered and outgunned taking advantage of the game mechanic in order to win.

In legend of the galactic heroes Gaiden: Spiral Labyrinth episode 1...
>Yang Wen-Li joins alliance military school
>During his school time he and another student called Malcolm Wideborn engage in a simulated combat scenario
>Yang moves his fleet to destroy Wideborns supply lines while Wideborn tries constantly to engage yang in a decisive battle
>When Yang had destroyed his opponents supply lines he moved back to his more defensible position towards which Wideborn started moving
>Wideborn had to retreat thoguh due to the lack of supplies and the battle was officially won by Yang
>After the simulation Wideborn complained that Yang had simply kept on fleeing him and had they engaged in one on one combat, Yangs fleet would had been destroyed

Later on during the series and the main series, Wideborn would end up as a corpse and receive a double promotion to the rank of Rear-Admiral after the 6th battle of Iserlohn, while Yang became the youngest Fleet admiral in Alliance history.
>>
>>47131864
The entire point of cruiser clash is that it is a meeting engagement and both sides have no objective beyond either destroying or driving the enemy force off. Spending the entire game running away and "winning" on a technicality brought about by bad programming is something that can and should be critizised.

The SH damage boost means you one-shot a light cruiser and two-shot a medium, and the sensor scrambler helps you avoid being lightning-struck, slaaneshed or taunted.

BT just makes you much harder to lightning strike, and gives a little more damage on your own.

Cruiser
>2 torpedos
>2 bio plasma broadsides

Cruiser
>2 torpedos
>2 bio plasma broadsides

2 kraken with massive claws
4 kraken with feeder tentacles
6 vanguard drones with pyro acid

Vague plan is to make 2 escort squads, each with 3 vanguard and ablative kraken.
>>
>>47136632
You have to decline the Eldar's invitations twice and then kill the traitor they warned you about in a specific mission.
>>

One achievement...

Old but Gold is either bugged or not a single person (who hasn't used the cheat engine) has been able to get it
>>
>>47137168

I wouldn't bother with the boarding torpedoes and attack craft. Torps at str 8, probably loosing a few to turrets, then having to roll-to-hit so you can make a hit and run seems much less good than straight up feeder tentacles which will minimum give you a similar result.

Especially for the cruisers, if you're doing bioplasma might as well get feeder tentacles and get stuck in for better damage.

I'd switch the feeder tentacles to the vanguards if you're planning on using the 15cm targeting ability for the rest of the fleet. Even all 6 vanguard combine to only 12 firepower, so I'd use the kraken as gun boats, you'll get more out of them. Massive claws on the escorts seems not super great either, they'll have a hard time holding a capital ship due to size difference and there isn't much point holding an escort if you can just shoot it or get a critical hit with a hit&run.

So what exactly are the advantages of Lances over Macro weapons and what role should i use my Gothic class in?

Are teleporting bombs, micro-jumps and all the abilities a thing on the tabletop, did they come up with them just for the videogame? If they are a thing for the tabletop as well, what powers/abilities should one expect from the Necron/Tau/Dark Eldar/Tyranid fleets?
>>
I seem to be having more success with the IN with a decent escort screen, maybe I've neglected them too long. The enemy either has to waste their broadsides and reloading times to wipe them out or ignore them at their peril. 3 or 4 escorts are probably better than another cruiser in most cruiser clash games.

Curious which upgrades people use on them. I'm thinking of going all out on durability
>>
>>47138274
Lances always hit, count armour at 25%, tend to have longer range and do lots of damage to shields with upgrades. Though in terms of sheer power macro weapons win every time, they just have to be much closer to be effective.

Gothics should be used as a shield breaker at medium range so your Tyrants or whatever can get their broadsides off. Though, to be honest, I never had much success with the Gothic myself, I ended up swapping it for a Lunar
>>
>>47137847

I wrote that retarded. I mean having both boarding torps and attack craft doubles down on something you can get the benefit from elsewhere better. Attack craft on their own though as a good idea. Critical hits from hit&run as nids are especially effective, either taking out ranged weapon arcs which you can exploit for staying close, or taking out engines which makes for very vulnerable boarding targets.

>>
>>47138447
Thanks for the advice!

I doubled-down on purpose, thinking that drowning thier turrets and fighters under different types of boarding might work. Also that anything aimed at my ordnance wasn't aimed at my ships.
>>
>>47138466
Depends how you use it. AdMech is probably your best bet, it means you can upgrade your Lances as well as your durability, and three skill slots on a cruiser is very helpful.

I put Space Marines on my Dauntless (for those triple lightning strikes) and Admech on everything but the Mars (Inquisition to fill out its support role)
>>
>>47120777
L-lewd
>>
>>47121711
why? 90% of eldar players are awful and die the instant you taunt them.
>>
>>47138554

Yeah, its more a math thing. The feeder tentacles give you more hit&runs than the boarding torpedoes. They have to be in base contact but you're probably heading there anyway because nid ordnance is so slow comparatively. You do get twice as much of it though, so that's a bonus. Depends on what you want. I've noticed more people tend to mix attack craft and pyro-acid on their hive ships so they can stay a bit further away from getting murdered while still spamming lots of assault boats.

Also, if you haven't, check out the 2010 errata, it gives you a bio-plasma option for kraken and also the ability to make some of your drones into fireships, which can be nasty.

Storm of Swords.

I'll take 2 Dauntless Mk-Is into a 6-700 point game. The rest is Swords.

My Sword fleet has hull reinforcement, extra void shields, and AP macros. I set them to engage at point blank and maneuver them as a screen in front of my CLs. When we get close to engaging the enemy, I ACTIVATE TACTICAL COGITATORS and set them all to lock on target. I converge the Swords on the biggest target in the formation and swarm the frigates on it. By this time the CLS are in range. Enemy permitting, I'll fly them by on each side of the target so they can fire off lances and then dump their macros. I then hit retros on the Swords to keep them engaged on the enemy fleet. When the CLs pass through the enemy fleet, I use a HET to bring them back around to pour lances into the enemy's engines.

After killing a few enemy capital shops (or if the Swords get wiped out) I pull the CLs out as best as possible and warp away. Managed to beat a trio of Eldar cruisers last night like this.

>>
>>47137168
a Tyranid fleet must have 6 escort drones for each hiveship. Though these can be in addition too the 6-12 escorts you normally take. go with bioplasma or maybe fireships to keep them cheap, plus they do make a good screen to help protect your hiveship (keep them in base contact and your opponent is at -1LD to try shoot past them.

Otherwise as the other anon mentioned you want krakens too be your pyroacid escorts and vanguards have feeder tendrils.

You're cruisers look good though I've not run them like that myself. Also consider the 2 pairs of massive claws cruiser. Its only a 90 point fire magnet that will fuck an enemy capital ship if it gets close. I like to take one and have it make a beeline straight for my opponents flagship to make him panic a little.
>>
>>47139982

Sending a bunch of fireship drones in behind a claw cruiser or 2 sounds hilarious and worth trying.

I must not be very good then. Mine keep dying. Do you fight with them in a cross the T line or all side by side.

How do you all control your ships? Just drag select or assign them into groups individually?
>>
>>47140289
It's that you're playing 1v1 where you can stack enough ships to inflict meaningful damage. If you try it in 2v2 where you can't take jack shit the weakness of the individual ships compared to those of other factions becomes extremely apparent very quickly.
>>
>>47139434
I play IN. It's still extremely annoying when I don't have enough firepower to take out 8 or 9 fully upgraded swords.
>>
>>47140369
Ok, don't propose to do a full IN tactica but what makes or breaks a match for me is the initial formation as I make a run in.

I have all of my ships grouped in the following ctrls:

1. Big ship (ret)
2. Cruisers.
3. LCs.
4. Escorts (these are set to auto do things)

Generally I'll keep 1 + 2 together and all selected at once, I'll move them through the enemy formation usually trying for a ram on the way.

I'll AAF just after my torps launch, then cogitator at about 2 seconds from engagement. Ideally you'll go straight through the middle of the enemy formation and broadside as you go.

I'll usually get 2 or 3 rams as I go, then spin round to broadside

If I'm feeling particularly cruel, I'll do as above with my cruisers (2 tyrants + a gothic + a ret fit perfectly into 700 pts) and MWJ (only works with sensons) my ret off to the side of the enemy.

I run mechanicus favour on everything and a general impression of my fleet build is pic related.

Obviously modifications are needed for Orks (usually when I AAF - though make sure he's not running lots of Evil sunz as the traktor will fuck you)

Chaos is a similar thing but more taunt required - though the ret and tyrants have long ranged enough guns that he'll close anyway.

Eldar, KEEP TOGETHER and keep him spotted.

I don't propose that pic related is perfect in any way shape or form (stasis spam fucks me - and you'll meet a lot of chaos players who seem to have every upgrade set to bomb), it does give me a lot of fun though.

If I were to improve IN somehow, it'd be an ability that removes stasis bombs (an anti bomb bomb?)

>>47140451
Yes this is my 1 v 1.

2v2 I only play with a friend over teamspeak so I'm well enough co-ordinated. The IN works best as a brick and the bigger the brick the better which is why I like doing 1v1.
>>
>>47140495
your cruisers do around 375 damage per minute in a fictional world where you have perfect accuracy.

Evil Sunz is by far the best ork favor because it synergizes with ramming and close range guns ad does the BRB gauge refill rate bonus, plus each additional traktor in your fleet dramatically increases the total fuck-power you have.

The Goff favor is okay since the Ramgob is extremely powerful, but the bonus is practically worthless. Blood Axes is okay too because the nova kannon is powerful and being orks means you can mass them, unfortunately the 25% chance to destroy your entire prow can be crippling and the ability to run silent is pretty useless.

Personally I think Evil Sunz is the best choice, Blood Axes second.

you should have bigger ships anyways. having one smaller ship for utility is good but big ships mean bigger, badder ramming, with lots more damage. you can use stasis bombs to force eldar to stay and fight as you box them in with your ships, and micro warp jumps are great for re-positioning for ramming speed.

It's really not the best idea on a ship like that, that has such useful prow weapons (which tend to blow up), but it's damn entertaining to use. I've had nothing but loss after loss atfer loss.

I don't spend renown on repairing ships anymore, I can't afford my Battleship slot, let alone any upgrades, skills or favours.

I'm constantly outgunned, outrammed, outmaneuvered by practically every other faction.

Good, you really shouldn't ever be doing that. Until you've bought all the upgrades for everything, there's always something better to spend the req on. If your good ships are in the shop, just take a pile of escorts for a few rounds.
>>
>>47153719

I won 4 games in a row as IN last night with zero losses.

>the were all against IN

>>47153731
You're retarded.

Emperor battleships are absolute trash and micro warp jump has an extremely long cooldown. It's not "broken" it's a shit ship using a moderately useful skill.

Boys only help on defense, they don't do anything for your own boarding actions
>>
>>47154379
It's still a pretty decent idea, that way you can stay killy much longer without any broken weapons, generators, engines or bridge.
>>
>>47154453
Not really, since orks already have high troop strength and most broken stuff actually happens due to crits from shooing.

You should do grotz and master gunner for cooldowns and crit chance. Th other 3 points you can put wherever you want, I do chained squig.

>I turn my slaughter around and go on ramming speed, because I hope his ships maybe crash into each other when they escape
>he doesn't even try to escape
>my slaughter spins around in his eldar blob until all his ships are dead
>he writes "gg"

What is wrong with most eldar players?
>>
>>47154784
They're used to frothing spergs just quitting because they read somewhere that eldar are OP so they aren't used to actually fighting.
>>
>>47154845
I would argue that the frothing mouthed spergs read that the Eldar are OP and thus pick them, thinking they are some sorta miracle monsters that kill everything with just their gaze.
>>
>>47154784
Eldar just aren't particularly good. Everybody worth their salt knows a pulsar is coming and that Eldar ships CAN be caught even without taunting.

Escort spam shuts them down. Ramming shuts them down (even a Dauntless can ram an Eldar Battleship with no worries). Everything shuts em down.

I'm about 30 hours into the multiplayer and I've NEVER lost against Eldar in a straight up Cruiser Clash.

Rear Admiral Drawfag reporting in. I was not able to draw much today. I've seen sometimes that some Admirals in Battlefleet /tg/ were at loss to procure my mediocre work. Seing there is no stubs for it in 1d4chan,I have stashed them in the gallery where I keep my other drawfagoterries.

In MP it can depend on your playstyle, opponent, and upgrades. I don't care to micro all my escorts, so I typically go with Swords for the wider angles of attack. Swords can take AP macros, and I've found them to be quite effective en masse. They're also pretty useful against most opponents

I can see instances where Firestorm would be useful. Lances take armor at 25%, and they don't miss. I just don't like having to use high energy turns and a 9+ mass of escorts to bring their weapons to bare. I might try to develop a fighting style for Firestorm to use on Orks.
>>
How good is an all AdMech fleet?

>>47156601
Problem is Firestorms have to be forward facing to use their lances which stops them dead in the water when they're attacking. Swords are much more survivable because they can engage in broadsides and circle around a target.

They also take fewer upgrades to get off the ground like Armor Piercing or 9K Macro range vs Lance range and shield damage which you need to take together.

It's the glass cannon part. A shit Eldar player is just free xp. A semi competent Eldar player will give a good player of any race trouble. A good Eldar player has the odds massively in his favour.

As I generally say though, against Eldar everyone loses, even Eldar. It's going to be a boring game for the most part.

How does the matchmaking work?

Does it prevent a player who's level 8 but has bugger all levels/favours on his ships going up against a same levelled admiral with all kitted to the brim fleet?

I've taken massed torpedoes, bombs and rams on every ship. Working well so far.

Escorts are pretty handy. Any fight against Eldar I just take 2 Dauntlesses and fill the remaining points with upgraded Swords. I do the same for Convoy attack missions and I can just faceroll both.
>>
>>47157335
>Does it prevent a player who's level 8 but has bugger all levels/favours on his ships going up against a same levelled admiral with all kitted to the brim fleet?
Nope! i've gone up against fully kitted out rank 10 ships with barely upgraded level 3-4s.

As far as I know there's no leaderboard/matchmaking system.

I play on medium settings so I don't know how pretty the game can be really. I've watched videos but it's not the same asaying it yourself.

>>47157210

I find the opposite to be true. Ork ships seem to be tanks that I just can't wittle down, and they have brutal broadsodes and those fucking lightning guns. And don't even get me started on fucking traktors.

Eldar on the otherhand melt like butter unless I break formation and get bogged down.

>>47157051

>Re Firestorm

Agreed. I like the idea of a bunch of fast boats with AP instahit lasers, but that finicky firing solution you need is problem. Plus I don't like how they just sit there instead of trying to strafe. My Firestorm usually end up getting rammed or pulsared. My Swords on the other hand tend to stay mobile and usually either outlive my fleet or hang out after I warp put if things go south.

>the other night I finished off 2 damaged Eldar LC with a pair of Swords after my last Dauntless blew up. Shit was so cash

the game gives extra points to the lower player so they can take more stuff, but its not a lot of help when all you have are 2 light cruisers. i think the devs are working on a proper matchmaking system and will patch it in later.

one of the first multiplayer games i played was chasing an eldar player with a light cruiser and 9 brute ram ships
>>
>>47159117
It gives them like 30 extra points.

It's nothing.
>>
A lot of the time I'll kill a ship as it is entering the warp and it still creates a portal when it looks like it blows up. Does this count as a kill or an escape? Sometimes its really hard to tell.
>>
>>47160079
just wait too the end of the match xp screen. it shows the number of ships killed
>>
Playing IN, chaos is just wait till they fuck up or just chase them around and see how they widel you down with lances from across the map.

Ork just won't die like the only thing that works is to out ram them.

Elder is just Sword spam. Auto attack auto repair auto lock on go eat sandwich and maybe win.
>>

Use Silent Running against Chaos.

I think there's some scaling, because I've had up to 90 extra points on my opponent before.

30 extra points can be the difference between "and an escort' and 'and another line ship'.
