Most of them are shit. A few can be very good. And almost all of them cause problems with lore consistency and cause thousands of pointless online arguments.

So can you enjoy BL? Yes. Does that make you a horrible person and a drooling retard? No. But is BL an objectively "good" franchise? Probably not. Especially when 40k proper is already commonly derided as being subpar or poor quality to begin with.

BL is the Star Wars prequel of 40k's original trilogy.

Gaunts Ghosts and the Ciaphas Cain series are both very good. That's about all I can say. Not essential reads, but recommended.
