Rogue Trader is an RPG. It's a set hull size you can put weapons, modules, etc on. It even specifies that Ambition-class cruisers tend to be wildly unstandardized.

It's a chassis. It has like, 60 space or something (I think all cruisers had 60,) and then you have to put engines, crew quarters,life support, gellar fields, reactors, etc etc etc on it. Any leftover space and power can be used for weapons, batteries, launchers, flight decks, whatever.

I think turrets might be the only thing specified on it, but I don't have all my pdfs anymore and can't answer that for you.

For support i swear by the Gothic as either a carrier escort/fire support

Brawler well this is more difficult. If you want a nova the dominator with AP. For Torps you have to choose between the Tyrant and Lunar. I prefer the tyrant as all the upgrades help all weapons and the long range can help catch fleeing carriers

IN have great choice with their Crusiers, and I rate all of them except the Dictator.

Dictator's launch bays are only really useful for protecting you from Chaos bombers. Which is fine if you know you're going to be facing Chaos, but just a waste of gunspace otherwise.

Tyrant and Dominator are your bruisers. They get up close and personal, take a pounding and give out more. Deciding between them is more a case of whether you want Torps and ramming spike, or a Nova cannon, rather than anything to do with the plasma batteries. Nova gives you some range versitility, Torps are more reliable damage.

Lunar and Gothic are your support. Lunar can deal with any situation with its guns: even if it doesn't excel, it'll never be useless. Gothic tears holes in escorts like nobodies business, and pumps out crits on hull, but is definately a backline vessel: the damage is just less than macros.

Compared to a Lunar, an Ambition has slightly less space and armor, but has superior sensors and is a bit more maneuverable. Their weapon hardpoints are identical though.

Honestly the differences between them are minute enough that it wouldn't matter on the tabletop. You could get away with using a Lunar statblock for a model.

Curiously enough, the Tyrant and the Dictator are the only IN cruisers with distinctive statblocks in the system. The Dictator has the excuse of having carrier bays that can't be removed, but the Tyrant is even less different from the Lunar than the Ambition is, the only difference I can see being a whopping 2 more space for components. All the others are just Lunars with different weapons bolted on.

To its credit, the Ambition shouldn't need that rule, as it's not pigeonholed in any one role like an actual transport would. A better vessel for that would be the Conquest.

I have a specific set of cruisers and LC that are outfited for eldar. If one is unavailable or im artacker in a data/assassination mission, then yes, I'll bring the minimum fleet and disengage ASAP. That way I minimize my losses and waste minimum game time that I could spend enjoying a fair fight against any other factions

I don't think I understand how to properly utilize microjumps. If I got it right you can only jump into a place where no enemies are, so I only ever use it to dodge torpedo salvos that would have caught me in the face otherwise

With Refined Lenses the Gothic can hit out to 12k with 100% accuracy and no damage drop off. It's much easier to focus fire with them because you don't need to micro them to close range. You do give up the nova cannon for it.

It might be. Chaos thrives on ambushes and sensor warfare. You have a very solid brawler in the Slaughter and an elf repellent in the Carnage, but ideally you want to whittle the enemy down by striking from many directions with your flyers and lances, and then finish them off with your brawler or just close in with the lance boats to board.
To do that you need to deploy and move in a way that makes finding and chasing you effectively as awkward as possible. Consider Tzeentch, navigational shields, and camo.

Are you playing on normal? Frankly this and the asteroid field escort were super easy with just a tyrant and three sword frigates. You'll out DPS the enemy horribly since they're chaos ships who really want to close range with that retribution for some reason.

Just worry about the first two waves. Horst will warp out not long after the third spawns, so it's just a matter of making sure he has enough health to tank them for a bit. So long as the Pillar is above half hull integrity when they arrive, you've pretty much won.

I ordered a bunch of ships from Aliexpress on April 6, and then decided that I might as well have a 750 point ork fleet too (had to get a terror ship on eBay) so I ordered some orky stuff on the 9th. Both packages arrived today (I'm in California). I’m at work so no pics yet, but they were well packed in surprisingly sturdy boxes packed full of bubble wrap. The Repulsive looks much sharper than my metal GW mini that was missing some wingtip detail. There are a couple of bubbles marring a Dauntless weapon battery piece.

On a previous AdMech order, the really thin bridge pieces were too thin and warped because of it, and the prows were a little twisted but I don’t know how good the originals were. I didn’t get any AdMech this time.

This resin sure does smell, though.

Cruiser is 1.5-2 cm with the rear engine Cluster and super structure a bit bigger. Battleship is only a little bigger than a cruiser on its gun decks, though it's taller and the rear superstructure is significantly wider and taller, probably 3cm ish wide and 4 ish tall plus wing and fin like bits ontop of that.

step 1: build your fleet right, minimum: pulsar range upgrades, some detection and vauls manuver. Set everything to autocast if you're a retard (you are).

step 2: move toward the enemy and dodge hazards.

step 3: right click to autocast pulsars.

step 4: after they fire, click 180 degrees away to auto turn and run.

step 5: dont be a retard and shoot at impenetrable shields, and watch out for stasis bombs, tractor beams and slanesh ships.

They're unconventional lists in that they don't play to the usual strengths (Imperial armor and Chaos range) And encourage splitting your fleet instead of using a line. But that's fine.

I'm a little worried about the IN fleet; Dauntlesses in TT are hard to use. They're best in pairs, but they should be the same kind. If they're torpedo Dauntlesses, then switch the Firestorms to Swords for the L/F/R fire arc. Or were you going to run one with the Firestorms and one with the Cobras? Honestly that could work.

It depends on the race/escourt. For example, with Orks, you want to give your savage kannonships even nigga gunz (armor red at 3k) and laugh as they chew through everything like rotweilers. You want to give your onslaughts range or grot targetters so they can help chase Eldar. You want your brutes to have boosted engines so they can chase down weedy fucks

Swords, macro range, cogitator link.
Logic: elves have 25 armour anyway, so AP is not needed. Lock On increases accuracy at all ranges, so no need for the targetting cogitators, and also increases crit chance, to which the elves are already extra vulnerable to.
I run a similar setup with my Iconoclasts, and it does work with them. Swords are superior on most fronts, so i don't see any issues.

It's not a bad idea. The extra manpower will make lightning strikes less effective which is always good for chaos. The proximity damage won't suddenly turn your fleet into cqc brawlers but it will give you you better odds when you get up close and personal.

I'm not sure its worth investing solely in Nurgle favours though

I'm thinking along the lines of taking two Carnages and an Acheron or a Murder, and alternating between fishing for lance crits (with cogitator link and the lance crit upgrade while locked on) from a distance and using superior speed to macro enemy carriers and support vessels with the Carnages. I'm not looking for optimal gosu ladder strats, but a way to make the theme work.

Played against Eldar in skirmish mode a bunch of times and yeah, it feels like the AI plays the Eldar just like Orks or IN. They always get super close and don't really dodge anything, easiest matches since you can obliterate them in seconds.

The only race where the AI seems to play significantly different is chaos.

Depends how many turrets they have left (which is basically the same as their health).

When they're fresh, send in Bombers to whittle them down.
When they're below 50%, send in Boats for the kill.
If you're unsure what to do, send Bombers. Some damage is better than nothing.

Adjust depending on enemy fleet.
Eldar, you really should just be loading up on Macros. But if you have some carriers anyway, send boats earlier for party time.
Orks, just bomb into submission. It's not like they can catch you.

Or you can take a guaranteed escort kill every 45 seconds, and a CL crippled or killed with the same interval if you concentrate your strikes. The thing with boats is that they're unreliable against... well, everyone. And higher troop value ships will just laugh them off. Bombers, on the other hand, do unavoidable, shield ignoring damage as long as they can make it to target.
Though maybe if you play the carrier-deficient IN it might be worth it, since a chance, however small, at a crit, is still better than whatever damage you can get with two unupgraded bomber strikes.

Yes. If you're targeting a certain system it weights it that way, but it's still mostly random. Focussing doesn't affect assault boats, boarding, or lightning strikes.

From what I understand every time one of your shots hits and makes it through the shields a roll is made based on the crit chance of that weapon. If a crit is scored it is then randomly distributed to a system, fire or hull breach. I assume if you have a system targeted it is more likely to go there but it's still no guarantee.

When you want to disable something on the ship, hit them with assault boats. When you want to do damage hit them with bombers. Bombers are especially great for finishing off ships cause their turrets are fucked at that point.

fine ill let you in on my secret anon. This is very niche for 2v2 but my strat is a battle cruiser running saim-han and a solaris running Alaitoc. Solaris stays perma stealth at a distance, providing support to the cruiser while it does typical pulsar shit. Unlike Voidstalker shit this strategy is a bit harder for experienced players to take care of. From my experience anyways. Solaris hasn't died in 70 battles lol

You can play chaos close range but you have to go all in on armour peircing macros, hull buffs, Nurgle favours and even then you'll still be flimsier than imperials.

That depends hard on the situaton. Bombers are flat-out better vs escorts and especially in numbers are better against ships with Nurgle favour, to some degree Astartes/Khorne favour and quite definitely vs Orks given they hit the weakest armor facing by default.
