Beware the Cry of the Bearversor Edition
I have no head, you got eaten by a sword! We're both having a bad day Sub-Edition
In the old thread we made a monster that's part Prizzly Bear and part Eversor, Scoria trademarked it, we had an armor mark discussion that didn't devolve into a which mark is best debate, a new Iron Circle picture got made, we talked about chainfire and Moriats, FW has some pictures of 30k Wolves, and more in the old bread >>46832289

So Iron Circle look fantastic, but there's no fluffy way to field them in a pre-heresy detachment, right? Since they come from Pert's post-Phall paranoia?

He's got it backwards, Guilliman incorporated Moritats after Corax beat him repeatedly in wargames using Suicide Moritats.

I got two Phobos land raiders because I like the Phobos and fuck the Spartan.

People give GW shit for giving new units better rules to promote sales, but nobody says it about FW. If the regular dread wasn't pointless already, the new 10pts. more for vastly superior "shitty contemptor" has buried the boxnought for good. The Spartan is barely bigger than the Phobos and packs more guns, but can transport 150% more dudes. Not much point in fielding Predators when the Sicaran is so much better. Indomitus TDA is the shittiest suit hands down. Dreadclaws can be bought as Fast, but drop pods are limited to RoWs.

Artificer armors are specially made suits of exceptional quality. Thus it stands to reason that a number of advances that would become standardized in future marks would have first been seen in suits of Artificer Armor.

>Can take a magna melta cannon for when nobody in your meta takes ceramite because nobody takes melta weapons because they are worried about ceramite
>75 points base
The fact that predators are 75 points base is pretty big even with the most expensive main gun they are still cheaper than a naked sicaran. I would prefer the more versatile option, plus I don't care for rending unless it is like 40 shots or like 20 guys in CC with rending.

There's no doubt that /tg/ loves Perturabo.

but what do you guys think of his portrayal in Angel Exterminatus? i personally love how he pounds fulgrims pretty boipucci twice.
>>
>>46853273
Angel Exterminatus was an absolute crime against Perturabo. Credit goes to McNeil for his grand attempt to humanize the minds of the most mentally inhuman primarchs, but Occam's Razor applies here, as it always does in the mindset of the Iron Lord. Simplicity is the key, expedience the goal. His is a mind entirely composed of mathematical equations, looking at the world around him in angles and percentages, statistics and numbers. Emotion is unwelcome, an unfactorable variable, but it's always there, the ghost that haunts his finely tuned thoughts. He buried his dreams and his heart on Olympia's ridges, and willingly cut all ties and dived into Hell, because his Father asked him to. He murdered millions, because his father asked him to. He broke empires, shattered armies, and his Legion bore the most grievous wounds and losses, because his father asked him to. And he ignored the implications of it all, because his Father asked him to.

Do you honestly believe none of this ground into his long lost humanity, the empty core of his being that he cut out, because his Father asked him to?

He is War-Broken. We're talking about God-Level traumatic mental disorder here. Perturabo can't control his emotions at times. He stares out at nothingness, and speaks to his past. One moment, he's unreachable, and the next he's ripping your head off because you brought him bad news. He can become utterly lost in fine details, both in crafting weaponry, and tearing down citadels. It calms him, returns his mind back to the emotionless numbers that represent hundreds of thousands of his sons dying. The further detached he became from reality, the further he tried to hide from the horror he was crafting, the worse his emotions got.

And Perturabo still buried that shit. He moved forward. He got the damn job done, and the next, and the next, with precise equations and algorithms.

>>
>>46853289

I don't know it's just "because his father asked him to" - no-one could reach him, even on Olympia, though several tried.

Though it doesn't help that he was paranoid from the get-go, and after a while he worked out,on his own, that he was an artificially created being, and clearly wasn't made on Olympia - all that logic made him realise that, and it can't be good for your spirit, knowing you were made for a purpose, like a tool.

Also, logic + great intelligence and creativeness + paranoia is a bad, bad combination for those close to him - he can probably think of more and better ways and reasons to betray him than any of his men, even those that would try and do just that

Elites:
Apothecary
Contemptor-Mortis with Kheres
Legion Terminator x5, 5x PF, 4x combi-plasma, Heavy Flamer
Red Butchers x5, 2x Power Axe for all, Devoured with Chainfist, Land Raider with Armored Ceramite

Fast Attack:
Anvillus-pattern Dreadclaw

Heavy:
Spartan with Ceramite, Flare Shield
Leviathan Siege Dreadnought, Ceramite, Grav-flux Bombard, Leviathan Siege Drill

What form of warfare did Iron Hands specialise in?

I have asked this before and people have said "mechanised." But the problem with that was... isn't everyone mechanised? Every game I have seen has had dudes in vehicles and armour support.

Heck even in the fluff it seems mechanised is pretty common. Blokes in transports with armoured support.

Could any Iron Hands players shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

Lunar warfare.
>>
>>46853705
High intensity war-warfare.
Get in and break through,fast.

IW are about grinding down, IH about smashing the opponent fast and completely.

Both accept losses, but Ferrus apparently thought that brutal and quickly ending engagements are preferable to attrition war-fare.

They used a lot of tanks and fancy tech to deliver that punch directly.

Just finished path of Heaven. Holy shit. This is without a doubt one of the very best HH Books ever. I'm going to drop a few spoilers for those so inclined, but you really should read it.

The Emperor created a Prototype Golden Throne inside a Warp Rift. Yesugei plugs himself into it and dies creating a Warp Path that sends the entire White Scar fleet to Terra.

Eidolon is the main villain, him and Mortarion. Mortarion is at near-Peturabo levels of suspicion by this point, even his trust in Horus is eroded considerably, and he suspects Typhon plans to backstab him

The Swordstorm is lost in a suicide attack on Mortarion's Flagship to allow the rest of the fleet to escape. Torghun is killed by Mortarion, who boards the ship to find the Khan.

At the very end, when the Khan's fleet arrives in the Sol System, they are intercepted by the Space Wolves. The Khan and Russ have an aweesome scene where a bloody and beaten Khan meets Russ.

‘You always were a pompous bastard,’ he said. ‘You come to my halls as a beggar and speak as if you owned them. Who else would dare it?’

The laughter subsided. Finally, he sheathed his blade. All across the bridge, bolters were lowered.

‘It would make me feel better to give you a fresh scar to remember me by,’ Russ said. ‘You might learn from it. But you look half dead already, and I have no wish to blunt my sword-edge on your scrawny neck.’

Arvida joins the Knights Errant, just as the Flesh Change is about to consume him.

Man, Russ continues to be an utter cunt
>>
>>46854641

The man lifted his arms slowly, showing he was unarmed.

‘This is the one?’ he asked. ‘The Prosperine sorcerer?’

‘I said, declare yourself.’

‘Khalid Hassan,’ said the man, peering past them at Arvida’s body. ‘Chosen of Malcador. I came out with the Wolves, for we had received auguries. Does he live?’

Naranbaatar kept the gauntlet raised. ‘He is one of ours. If even the Sigillite wishes him harm–’

‘Harm?’ asked Hassan. ‘Harm? No, my lords, you misunderstand this. He is sick – we know it. You cannot cure it. My master can help, though, and he wishes very much to. I do not think you know just what you have here. Believe me, we would not permit you to let him die.’

‘How did you get on the ship?’ asked Oskh.

‘That is my business. I would have done it openly, but you will appreciate the difficulties. If Lord Russ were to discover what you are keeping here...’

‘He will never do so.’

‘No, quite.’ Hassan lowered his arms. ‘Listen, you need do nothing now. There are more travelling with me, and they can help. It can all be done quietly, even if the Wolves circle you all the way to Terra. You will be taken to the Palace. The Sigillite will be waiting. He will speak to the Khan, all will be made clear then, but for now, just for now, do not obstruct this. Allow help to be given.’ Hassan placed his hands together. ‘There is no deception. We all wish for the same thing.’

Naranbaatar hesitated. The man before him was unshielded – his mind was open. Finally, he lowered his gauntlet.

‘His sickness is advanced. You say you can help?’

‘If you let us, but time is short.’

‘But what interest is this to you?’ interjected Oskh, his voice full of suspicion.

‘Because we have been waiting for him,’ said Hassan, looking past them at the unconscious Arvida, his expression close to reverence. ‘And now, at last, he is here.’

>>46854641

Jubal looked up at him. ‘There has not been the time to ask you, Khagan. You were on that place – Dark Glass. What was it?’

The Khan thought on that. Maybe only Yesugei really understood, and yet the machinery Jaghatai had witnessed in the lower shafts had told him much. It had surely all been part of the same project, the one that had taken his Father away from the Crusade, and that in time would have made the entire panoply of empire – the Navigators, the Legions, the warp engines of the Mechanicum, even the primarchs themselves – obsolete. No wonder it had been kept secret, a secrecy that had contributed so much to the years of suspicion and mistrust.

There had been betrayal before Horus, that much was clear. Perhaps the fruits of that were only now becoming evident.

‘It was a failure,’ the Khan said. ‘A dead end. We are left with what we see – our wars, our blades, our mutants. Our daemons.’

I thought the throne was built after the Siege upon his instructions, or at least modified to seat him, before that he was just kept in stasis.

But then I remember he's one of many immortals and got his power from the dark gods, and I permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will put on my nostalgia goggles and see its source. Where the crap has gone there will be nothing. Only oldfag will remain.

>>
>>46854951

No-one writes Mortarion better than Wraight, in my opinion.

Mortarion knows he'd damning himself, but he's determined to keep himself and his legion pure.
What he had told Horus was true – he had kept the Legion pure. His warriors fought with their blades, bolters, fists and nothing more. There had not been a Librarius in the XIV Legion for a long time, and never would be again.

But what of Typhon? That element, at least, had eluded his control. Calas emerged ever more often in Mortarion’s fevered dreams, marching at the head of Legion detachments he barely recognised. There would have to be a reckoning with Typhon before the assault on Terra. The Legion had become too distributed, too caught up in the sprawl of the burning galaxy.

And so the order to bring the Khan to heel had been well made. It would be a work of glory, something to set aside the deeds of Fulgrim and Lorgar. Mortarion would march to Terra with the mantle of primarch-slayer, just as his Chemosian brother would.

Until then, the study continued, the immersion into the lore that both disgusted and fascinated him. If he noticed the degraded appearance of those about him, the gradual accumulation of grime and war-patina, he never spoke of it. Sickness ran through the mortal crews of the line battleships, making the echoing holds ring to the cries of the afflicted, and nothing was done.

I will comprehend, became the mantra, repeated into the deeps of the endless nights. This at least will not be denied me, not as the other things have.

Yeah if you ignore all the art and fluff where they wear all kinds of different armour, including MKIV and even MKVI, and the whole point about Horus pilfering more MKIV for his cronies - presumably Death Guard getting more of it as they were part of the initial group to openly turn.

MKII also suits IW far better than MKIII because reasons. DG have a case for using more MKIII since their tactical doctrine is shit and MKIII is based on Plague Marines anyway, but the best trooper armour is MKII and MKIV. Also, due to the atrocious attrition warfare these legions ran and the influx of new troops they would be much more inclined to have a huge mix of whatever was available with less uniformity.

MKIII is probable if they add more plastic kits though because it is more popular than any other heresy-era armour. MKV is possible but sounds weird. There's also been rumours of just more MKIV though so you better butter up your assholes like good little piggies and shell out for proper Forge World minis.

I wanted to post the dreaded Iron Warriors Beakie but couldn't find it right now. It's in the Visions of Heresy books at least, and it is beautiful. If you need a fluff justification, it was pilfered from dead Raven Guard after Isstvan.

If you don't like the static shitty leg poses in the Calth set that is perfectly fine and reasonable, but MKIV was the best and in many cases officers scrambled to get it because it sucked so much less than the earlier armours. The only time you'd prefer earlier marks is if you're some kind of loyalist.

Seems a pretty good portrayal, matches what we know and gets the necessary slow, horrific fall of Mortarion and his legion

Is it weird that I kind of feel for Horus as the Heresy continues?
Two of his commanders are basically mad, another is little more than a weapon at this point; the one that started everything is more under the gods' command than Horus's, and was never the best general, while another is a contrary fuck who only obeys when he wishes and a third is reluctant and wracked with doubts and self-pity; the other two are prideful and self consumed, succumbing to paranoia, and they're his most reliable guys.

No wonder he started chatting to Ferrus's head

The plan for my DG was to build the initial blobs/heavy weapons off of new issue mkIV with B@C to represent the new accelerated recruits, and when I have more cash on hand get a bunch of upgrade sets and mkIII to use as my veterans
>>
Did the Rubric happen during or after the heresy?
>>
>>46856244
Oh of course you can justify any armour you want. After all, MkIV was supplied to all traitors (and for some reason I always picture it white, so it works for WE). But even though it can fit the whiteish DG, MkIII fits them best hands down. And MkII fits the IW best.

I guess you get MotL from Rask and his tank hunter in a squad + morturg warlord for the infiltrating, but losing out on Target priority is huge, its basically an AoE of Vhalens warlord trait.

Tbh with Black Libraries fucked release schedule and constant re-shuffling of the timeline we could be anywhere right now. No the series will be 50 including anthologies

Even in index chaotica they have them finding the planet of sorcerers after the end of the heresy
The new fluff is they teleported there immediately after prospero and didn't do much there and the flesh change is starting already
Add to that theres no account of them fighting alongside Horus atm
The problem is they were written as loyal but tricked - even working against chaos at the start
It will take something major like the rubric to turn Magnus prime shard to active help chaos

The main thing I hate about 30k is that you can't take power spears outside of specific units and you can't equip honour guards with character specific weapons. I will never get to field a group of Emperor's Children going full knight in shining armour using Phoenix Spears as lances.

Well since Mr. Bones is merciful and not spiteful like Black Library this series will end. They may retcon the Heresy lasting seven years to justify the novel length, but they will have to get closer to the end to drum up interest. I would say we're in the midpoint of the middle of the Heresy.
