flavortext? It's an spirit warrior from a forgotten war.

>>46811900
Naaaah. Wither doesn't do it for me. It needs to be something really aggro, to encourage to put counters on it, or really defensive to use it as a stick.

My instinct is Hexproof, but that'd make it a boring and uninteractive card.

Because of the colors, costs, and flavor, I'd be inclined to make a graveyard or infect types stuff that procs on cards entering your graveyard.

>>46811920
I'm against Intimidate being dead. I believe it does have a place in MTG, swingy as it is. It does fit as a primarily Black mechanic, at least a lot more than Menace does, in my opinion. Black should have intimidate as its primary evasion, and red should have Menace. And in any case, Mythic Rare, huehue.

And about the wording, I want people to be able to bounce and shuffle the creatures, and the exile to only prevent infinite sacrifices.

And I wasn't! But I posed three or four for that Anon, and actually made the Mythic for him.

But really, I think it could do with an evasion ability. And I'm utter shit at flavor text.

Oh wait, maybe not an evasion ability. I mean, this is huge in mill. But... Eh, I'll have to think on it. I guess it would help to compare it to creatures that get buffed based on the graveyard.

>It's an spirit warrior from a forgotten war.
I guess something about how everyone but him forget the war he died in?

Shouldn't it say "Whenever AT LEAST one card" to make clear something like startled awake doesn't give him +13/+13?

Also, just to be sure: "from anywhere" means any cards being discarded (good, that's quite black), anything on the battlefield being destroyed (ok I guess), any kind of mill (sound kind of blueish to me) AND any instant or rituals played (definitively blue). All that regardless of owner. That's pretty wide and definitively UB.
I would at the very least limit it to permanent cards. But it can still go up extremely quickly, though it doesn't have evasion.
>>

Their use of Assemble doesn't work because Steamflogger Boss's wording implies the creatures do the assembling, but his version of assemble functions as a triggered ability where a player does something, not a creature. The current state of it means assemble can be stapled onto anything sense it is a passive thing like lifelink or trample.

Fairy tale plane, working on card mechanics. Any advise, ideas?

(Blue) Whimsy - When you play an instant, {value}

(Green) Fable - Wheneven you put a token onto the battlefield, {effect}

(Black) Punishment - Rename Curse, Enchantment for the enemy players that does nasty stuff

(White/All?) Quest - Whenever {Value}, put a quest token on this {Card name}. Remove five quest tokens from {Card Name}: {Effect}

(Red) Wish - I got nothing.
>>
>>46824732
Maybe reference or thesis? IDK, both of those names you mentioned are better than tome flavorwise. I, and I think most magic players, associate tomes too strongly with artifacts.
>>
>>46827406
black should be deals (effect occurs only when opponent agrees)

red should be passion (opponent chooses between (min)two options)

white should be purity (downsides for multicolor targets, upsides for monocolored targets)

all should have quests
>>
>>46827544
Good ideas. Curses would be something your opponent may {value}. If no, you {Value}.

Red I'm not sure how that's different from black's deals, but white's purity is good. Something like Target {Color Creatures} gain X or something. Like red gains defender.
>>
>>46827595
Purity: Whenever your opponent casts a [something], {value}
>>
>>46827595
deals ONLY effect work when the opponent agrees
enchantments effects the opponent toggles

passion is selected by the opponent out of a list
like a charm spell the opponent selects out of
instants stack resolution

sure they are similar
>>
>>46827595
>>46827676
you seemed to have confused hosers with my idea

I don't care about the specific color
I care if they punish multicolored, or buff monocolored
>>
>>46827704
Ah. So purity would be like "Creatures you control with a single color gain first strike" or "Creatures your opponent control with more than one color gain defender."

Situational, and it has to be limited to who controls what.

>>46827688
Red would be something like: "Your opponent chooses one of the following effects."

I thought it was fine,

but it can be put in any deck, is basically free, and its effect is very useful

desu i think it's just some autists complaining who don't understand why no one plays "i win in one turn" legacy/vintage
>>
>>46829497
It doesn't even counter spells already on the stack

I think its fine, if an auto-include in every deck, which might be the actual problem
>>
>>46829619
>It doesn't even counter spells already on the stack
It's not supposed to, I'm not so dumb as to try to make a 0 mana force spike. Confusion might be a problem, but I'm making the set more experienced players so I think it shouldn't be too big.
>if an auto-include in every deck, which might be the actual problem
You mean like in the sideboard? I don't think that it's good enough for many decks to play it maindeck, but I could see it being too good against combo maybe.
>>
>>46829730
I think it has play potential in most decks.
Playing aggro creature deck? Turn 2 if red, 3 if black, 4 if white to prevent the wipe.
Slow down tron a few turns to get the win.
100% blowout against burn.
>>
>>46829775
>Slow down tron a few turns to get the win.
Ah, modern. I play pauper/legacy much more often, so I made the natural comparison to lotus petal (which is mostly unplayable in pauper and is fair in legacy) I don't think petal is playable in most standards either looking at simian spirit guide, though it was good enough with yawgamoth's bargain/will in tempest/urza's to get banned back then. Modern is a lot more deprived of fast mana though, so whatever little rituals it does get tend to be amplified.
What deck(s) do you think I should test it in for modern? I'll try testing it in zoo for now.

>>46829976
Back from a bit of testing, it's total trash in zoo, (I don't know where you got the idea that it was good against burn, it felt the most useless against burn, OK against affinity though)
An issue with it for being playable in modern (maindeck) is that if it prevents a player from being able to cast a spell then they can tap their land and effectively gain 2 life instead, instants can also negate the tempo advantage as well as well as activated abilities or suspend.
There might be some sort of shell for it, but I doubt it would be too strong against an average deck.
>>
>>46831405
>and effectively gain 2 life instead
wat
>>
>>46831516
So if your opponent was planning on playing a 1 drop but then you played a bauble they can't play their card anymore so instead of playing their shockland untapped and losing 2 life they play it tapped.
This means they're down 1 mana in tempo but up 2 life.
>>
>>46831530
why the hell would you play it that fucking early?
>>
>>46831542
People have 1 drops past turn 1, and if the only creatures in your hand are one or two one drops then it is the optimal time to cast it against most decks.
Also if you know you're playing against affinity, it's usually right to do it on turn 1.
>>
>>46831577
>affinity
no one said this would be effective against affinity

at most they said the archive reaction was inappropriate
>>
>>46831589
>no one said this would be effective against affinity
I never said anyone said it would be effective against affinity?
I don't what problems you have with my statements.
>>
>>46831601
But why report back after such little play testing against an already extremely overpowered opponent
>>
>>46831405
Modern burn relies heavily on it's creatures, eidolan of the great revel, goblin guide, and monestary swiftspear, to function, and delaying those creatures by even one turn can let pretty much any deck have a much better chance of finding their burn answer post board, which is something most decks have.

The wording looks right, maybe switch the bottom part to Cleric creature tokens, so it matches with the top. Also, in that form, it wouldn't even need to be a mythic. Probably just an uncommon or a common.

Mmh, I counted 13 flash red cards with only 7 creatures. I can understand your view.
I think red can have flash when it's justified, mostly for etb effect : Bogardan Hellkite being the most well known example, or Dualcaster Mage who can't work without it.
Your card doesn't have a etb ability in the strictest sense, but I would consider it close enough. That being said, flash instead of haste would weaken it as a beater, which you may not want.

And I personally think red should have more flash.

Not the most original idea, but the only thing that comes to mind now is basically Vanishing, but with time counters and it doesn't remove a counter if you control a Rigger.

Also, I'm pretty sure that anon was wrong when he said your use of Assemble was wrong. Again, look at Renegade Krasis.
>>
>>46839147
That could work. Change the name of the counters, and when it disappears, it explodes. If that anon was wrong, I may go back to how it was before, since it felt more original and less wordy.
>>
>>46839190
>>46839147

No. Actually, that's one of the biggest problems.
>>
>>46839789
Why? I really don't think it's too hard to remember "When this vanishes, it pings each creature." I get that it's a little wordy, and if there's a more simple/elegant way of getting across dangerous instability, I'm all ears, but the explosion is kind of an important part.

It being a graveyard-scaler with Trample is already almost an instant-kill, nevermind the fact that it lets you cast tons of stuff for free. Would be fun as fuck as an EDH general, even if CMC 9 relegates it to casual playgroups.
>>
>>46832020
I wouldn't put that effect on a 1 drop (green very rarely gets Savannah Lions anyways).

>>46832081
It should get only basic Forest/Islands, since it's already reasonably costed as a mana rock.

>>46832085
I like this a lot. Note that phyrexian symbols are also colored mana symbols, which probably breaks all sorts of things. Reminder text is typically "(This effect lasts indefinitely.)"

>>46832450

Middle for simplicity and flexibility. If you really want to support all 10 pairs, split the common fixers between lands and artifacts (5 ally lands, 5 enemy rocks, for example).

Yeah, as a common I really should keep the reminder text. That's the convention for 'What needs to have reminder text' iirc.
>>
>>46843162
Well you've spent 9 mana casting it, go on and win your game. =P

>>46843179
Of course! That's the idea though. It affects your creatures and your opponent's, but they're turned into stickmen most of the time; no evasion, or protection, or buffs of any kind. Possibly you can do some layer stuff with it and enchantments, but I only know so much about it to just know it can happen.
>>
>>46842114
Getting P/T from your hand is such a small bonus over the massive boost you get from your graveyard, while free casting spells from your yard is nuts. I'd change it so that it gets p/t from yard and free cast from hand.

>>46843329
It'll only affect the base abilities and stuff granted by cards played earlier. Anything that grants an ability that you play after damping grid will work just fine.

All dem Contraptions and Riggers. I think contraptions might need some kind of revision, since with Clues coming out, the idea that you'd just make an artifact token that does nothing besides sit there is sort of weak now. I think people would expect to see them have at least a sac ability or something. I realize that these Riggers make them do stuff, and I suppose because of that you might be able to value price them and their abilities, but still, it might be worth exploring the Contraptions having some kind of base "thing" they do. Maybe I'm overthinking it?
>>
>>46846042
>it might be worth exploring the Contraptions having some kind of base "thing" they do.
It would make the Riggers extremely wordy since they would have what an Contraption does alone and what they grant to it.

Point taken. Especially if you want them to grant Contraptions other abilities.

Or, you can go at it a different way and have Riggers that make contraptions, and Riggers that use them/trigger off of activating them. It'd be a bit more like how Clues work right now though, so if that's too samey I could understand rejecting that idea.

Affinity dumps their hands and then drops this. You can no not cast any spell on your turn 1 such as a Bolt or Path etc that might clear a creature. Affinity untaps and attacks, maybe plays another card since it has so much fast mana it can afford to. You get your 2nd turn where you can cast a single 1 mana spell or wait until it vanishes if you have instants. Affinity untaps and kills you or just plays another copy...

That is just one example of a strategy that would be absolutely broken with this card.

Everything is new! Actually many thing aren't even new yet! Mana is all over the place and things change everyday.

It could have unstable mana (painlands, manaburn) that doesn't know what to be yet (morph/manifest), future elder races/beings in their infancy (treefolk as young and keen sprouts, cephalids as curious and candid explorers, giants than haven't grown yet or stupid shit like that... maybe an ancient evil toddler), little to no graveyard interaction (design challenge for black), little to no artefact.

The issue may be to have an actual plot, maybe a planeswalker wanting to studies how the fuck the multiverse work. Tamiyo maybe? I want to avoid Jace. Or maybe even Karn day off, rediscovering that life is beautiful and shit. Of course that may require to have at least a few answers to give...

For white, the fact that you can exile all other permanent's with the same name seems like unnecessary power for an already strong ability. For black, all three modes are very strong abilities. If you're gonna let people choose between abilities, I would keep your favorite, then dumb down the other two. For blue, I don't know if it really is that OP, but when I first looked at it, being able to counter ALL spells, ALL abilities or draw 2 cards seemed really strong.

>>46858103
>>46858134
i really love the fact that you're doing this.

i have some input though. the set so far seems very one note. i like contraptions and riggers but you should try and come up with some abilities that interact with them rather than simply relying on them.

you have a lot of assemblers. i don't think you need that many. i also don't really like the contraptions tokens as is.

i'd rather them be 0/1 artifact creatures that have some kind of unpredictable ability.

i.e. if you control 1 rigger they get +1/0, if you control 2 riggers they get flying, if you control three riggers they -lose- defender. etc.

i'm curious how you are gonna work white and green into the mix. i imagine green will be strictly anti-contraption?
>>
>>46859383
I appreciate the input! When I started, I didn't plan on making it a full set, but I've fallen in love, so I probably will. I was thinking Riggers and contraptions would be mainly R/U with a few riggers in W/B. Green will mostly be Contraption hate, but I was thinking of factoring in Fortifications (look up Darksteel Garrison if you're unfamiliar) as the main mechanic for W/G. Black's main mechanic hasn't been figured out yet, but I want to do something Pollution-related. As for the token creature idea, I think that would just complicate things, as I would have to state that in the Assemble reminder text. I understand wanting to give them a base ability, but I think I prefer just having Riggers make them useful.

cont.

it bothers me that each rigger has a different cost to make the same contraption token. that's not fun to me. i kind of feel like it could be a good come into play ability too, or at least tap the riggers?

imo you could change unstable to be: remove a counter unless you sacrifice a contraption rather than simply having it be rigger based. having a rigger seems like a very simple requirement to get an under costed card.

alternatively i think unstable could be interesting as an ability that cares about chump blocks. so each time the creature blocks or is blocked you would remove a maintenance counter. that way you could chump block a big contraption several times and cause it to fall apart despite never doing that much damage to it, you could then under cost all of the unstable contraptions. basically cheap work. if you had contraption tokens be 0/1 artifact creatures with defender then you could use those to chump block. it would create an interesting interaction and make chump blocking a unique thing in the set.

here are some ideas for other mechanics:
>overdrive (1,2,3): if this creature dies while attacking or blocking it deals damage to all creatures blocking or blocked by it.
dismantle: if this creature would deal damage to a creature with counters on it instead remove that many counters.

white could probably get protection from artifacts and be good.
>>
>>46859902
cont.

here are examples of cards that would work with this system.

Ramshackled Behemoth - 3RR
artifact creature - giant contraption
Trample
Unstable 3 (whenever this becomes blocked or blocks remove a counter)
5/6

Incensed Baloth - 2WG
Whent his comes into play, destroy target token.
Dismantle (if this creature would deal damage to a creature with counters on it instead remove that many counters.)
3/6

Red and green are fair, white is pushed, blue and black busted. The problem with blue and black is that they have multiple good, always useful modes at a competitive CMC. I like colorless taking over the few exile-matters mechanics. Eldrazi stuff sort of set up the correlation and it's a relatively unexpelored area (for a good reason). Colorless mana costs isn't something that should be used often, but I like pairing it up with something else that also should be only used infrequently.

A problem I've come across when trying to make colorless cards is the need for a combat keyword. Something that fits between the amazing annihilator and the lackluster ingest.

>But why report back after such little play testing against an already extremely overpowered opponent
I didn't just playtest against affinity and burn, I also playtested against jund and infect and it didn't preform too well against either of them, I felt it became clear it wasn't good in the shell.
>>46847063
>Affinity dumps their hands and then drops this. You can no not cast any spell on your turn 1 such as a Bolt or Path etc that might clear a creature.
That hand requires a mox opal, a land, a wading bauble, a 2 drop bomb, a 0 drop creature and either a another 0 drop creature or the land has to be darksteel citadel or a springleaf drum.
Additionally, if the opponent had a bolt or path and the bomb was a cranial plating or a steel overseer, they won't even be in a particularly bad situation. Even in your incredibly unlikely scenario, the opponent still has a decent chance of winning so long as they have either of the exact cards you claimed were stuffed by bauble.
You want to give a list with affinity that could actually run wading bauble so I can test it and I will (I have actually been testing my own list and it isn't working well), but your scenario is comically fucking stupid.
>That is just one example of a strategy that would be absolutely broken with this card.
Oh no! a turn 3 kill that can only be stopped with one of the two most commonly played cards in the format or hundreds of other less played cards, that only requires 4 specific cards and 2 or 3 non-specific ones. Clearly I have failed as a designer.
>>46831786
Wading likely delays burn by 1 turn, if you need to find a hate card against burn and Wading slows burn down by one turn it didn't dig better than reach through mists and likely cost you as much tempo (the tempo burn lost was already factored in). I wouldn't consider that particularly good, especially considering almost every 1 and 2 mana spell does something against burn.

>>46873852
Absolutely, hilariously bonkers. As long as it exists on the board, non-indestructible/hexproof creatures literally can't exist.

First, "Tap an untapped creature you control:" or else you can tap the same creature infinitely. Second, the destroy ability creates a creature that you can use to... destroy another creature. Hell, you can get infinite ETB/dies triggers by killing your own Snake tokens.

And, even worse, it dodges spot removal because you can just redirect it onto whatever you want.

The drawback only works in a multiplayer setting, because you can't attack you. Also, should be worded "Creatures your opponents control attack you each turn if able." or "Creatures your opponent control can't attack players other than you."

>>46873818
Hello Jason Todd, we meet again.

>>46873251
I like the idea here, bit I might muse that it could be a choice between the card and the counter, since you can easily strap something to this guy to let him tap, like a Paradise Mantle, then collect your mana, card, and counter every turn. Or more, if you can twiddle him repeatedly. And since he has hexproof, he can't really be interacted with. Maybe if you make it a choice it could be two counters to balance it out a bit, since nobody would ever pick the "not a card" option otherwise.

>>46872481
I like this a lot, but I dunno if it could be common.

So... blue needs some original combat damage triggers right? I get the feeling this might need to be remade to a choice... maybe a "or you draw a card" kinda thing? I like it otherwise, I just feel like it'd be too oppressive. Maybe I could have the card go to the bottom of the library instead? Or like, 2nd from the top? I like the card draw idea best but I'm open to input. Also perhaps rare, though nobody should manage to get two of these in a draft, let alone on the board (I don't think).
