Welcome to the Accidental Magical Girl thread!

Various worlds and multiverses have become connected together via the mysterious Overcity, a sprawling landscape inhabited by monsters and magical beings. Girls and boys endowed with their new supernatural powers can work together solving conflicts that arise!

>This is NOT a greentext adventure style CYOA with one GM and thread posting to dictate the adventure, but rather a hub thread for multiple storycrafters to use. A majority of activity (including campaigns) instead happens in the IRC, which is open for newbies to join.
Characters can be rolled with either the CYOA's purple PDF which is intended as a writing prompt and is in the process of developing an independent auxiliary combat system, or AMGC's blue pdf which contains combat rules for PNP campaigns along with the rolls.

Post builds, roleplay, write stuff.

How do you play your monstergirl? More human, less human, happy about what they are, reluctant...

What makes them tick? Do they ever feel bad or self loathing for being what they are or what they do? Did they sign up for it?
>>
>>46766227
>How do you play your monstergirl?
Several monstergirls have a monstrous appearance, but try to do the right thing. They'll manage somehow. They want to be purified out of their unusual outlook.

Mine are the exact opposite. When monsterfags look at my rolls, with a portrait of a seemingly ordinary girl attached, and ask me what kind of monstergirl she's supposed to be, I'm tempted to simply reply: "The worst."

Because for me the whole 'monster' business was about playing a character that is radically different from a magical girl. Or a human being. The monster is to be found less in the body, and more in the soul.
>happy about what they are, reluctant...
Well, it's very easy to make them happy. Or upset.
>What makes them tick?
In a sense, you could argue they're like your typical /tg/ adventurers: being proactive and doing horrific things to sapient beings, in order to become more powerful and stealing their valuables. Let's go on an adventure!
>Do they ever feel bad or self loathing for being what they are or what they do?
If they are unsuccessful, or even get what they deserve, they won't like it, but they won't exactly regret what they usually do.
>Did they sign up for it?
In fiction, many, if not most magical girls that are recruited or created against their will, but ultimately accept their destiny. These are not exceptions.
>>
>>46766227
I currently have two monsters I'm playing with.

One is a monster only in appearance, but acts for the good of his people and himself. But he hates his situation, and hates that he hates it. The pressure on him may slowly drive him to a breaking point but as long as he has his 'normality' he can attach himself to, he should be able to remain stable. Bad things can happen when you hype a kid up to be a god.

The other tried her best to supress her corruption but is starting to enjoy and justify it too much. The urge to cause chaos is growing and starting from someone who was hesitant to harm another monster, now kills innocent people in plain sight with no remorse. She is losing herself and enjoying it. One day she'll catch her prey.

>>
>>46767531
Spending their life unfavourably because one, dying probably hurts like hell, two being a discombobulated magical spirit awaiting reformation is likely unpleasant and boring, and three they could have been killing monsters during that time, and four their puchuu would be all alone.
>>
>>46767677
That would be cool, although in my opinion monster girls should be corrupted in the soul as well as the body

What do you guys do here?

Just create characters and then talk about your characters and make-up stories with your characters and sometimes roleplay with each other a little and that's it? Or is there more to it?
>>
>>46774878
You might have to shuffle around the percentages on how much we do those things, but that about covers it.
>>
>>46774878
In the irc it's about 80-85% slice of life and drama roleplay and the remainder is campaigns. Writing stories alone has somewhat fallen out of fashion
>>
>>46766846
You do good work anon.
>>
>>46775045
It's still done though. I think only the oldest of oldfags still do it instead of roleplaying though - myself, Sentinel Green, Aggi.

>>
>>46776004
I do, but primarily I write. I've never participated in anything but light pub roleplay via the IRC. The one time I attempted to get involved in something - a combat run that was one of the SCS playtests, everyone got one attack off and then it ended.

So yeah, I roleplay, but my writing outweighs it in terms of content produced and definitely outweighs it in terms of meaningful story content.

Condolences on the abortive session, but hope you give the RPG campaigns another try? Plenty of oneshots running in IRC these days.

Eh, It's not like I've written off all campaigns/sessions entirely, but I live in an odd timezone and keep odd hours so it's difficult to schedule shit with other players. I've done a couple pub style meetups with just Aggi, and that's often hard to arrange, given that we're 11 hours apart.

Introducing the MGCYOA Supplementary Combat System!

Created at roughly the same time as AMGC, the SCS allows players to easily take characters made in the CYOA v1.4 and use them in Quests and long-running campaigns alike.

This PDF covers the basics of magical girls and sets the groundwork for future updates (which will include Patrons, DMGs, and Monster Girls). Additionally, plans have already been made to update alongside the CYOA v1.5 update which will be coming soon.

I've been informed of some syntax errors in the PDF, and it should be updated sometime by the next thread. As always, your constructive input is appreciated.

The thing needed the most are perk/power ideas.

Now I can stop dumping this in the irc hopefully.

She stares into the souls of those who gaze upon her and ask them questions, questions that they ALWAYS answer.

AND THEN YOU FOLLOW HER EXPLOITS! She's enthralled her viewers as of this point. How do you think that her show has gone on for so long and on top of that how she hasn't aged or changed? Dora is a psychic dark magical girl building an army of slaves.

I wrote my stuff there but I will also post them here just because:

1. Are students required to wear an uniform? I need a yes or no answer here.
2. Any respectable school has 7 secrets. You already have the secret Fifth House as one, BTW. They tend to be mostly spooky things.
3. Is my understanding that this is supposed to be a mix of your anime high school and Harry Potter correct?
4. In addition to the Student Council, your typical school has a Discipline Committee. In anime this is entirely managed by students who typically patrol the school and make sure no fun is experienced rule is broken. This includes dress code violations or worse offenses like fighting. It attracts hardass, STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM kind of people. In those anime settings where the Student Council is judge, jury and executioner, and more powerful than the parliament, the Discipline Committee is for all intents and purposes its police force. In a more realistic Western setting it has mix of teaching staff and students and operates more like a courtroom than a bunch of thugs who think they're brilliant investigators.
5 - A magical club could be disguised as an ESP, UFO or other pseudoscience club, nobody would ever expect its participants to possess the real thing (but what happens if a normalfag wants to join?).

Answered in the pad but will also answer here because bumpage.

1. I want to say yes because I love school uniforms but others in the past in discussing this idea have disagreement with it. I'll create a poll.
2. More things will come into play depending on how much interest players have in this environment. Best to start small for now. You'l see when the personality quiz is out.
3. It's pretty much come to that.
4. If you'd like to start one feel free. Trying to leave stuff like that managed by the players themselves. Last school titan pad was all over the place with loads of ideas so best leave it open than try to manage it for now.
5. That will be up to the players who made the club decide on mostly. Let them join and try to keep it secret from them? Deny them? Tell them the truth but have them swear to keep their mouth shut? Up to you~

A pair of troublemakers, Julee and Lotah grew up alone in the world. The puchuu took them in and shaped them into people that could make a difference in the world. The magical girl life is just about the only one they can remember anymore.

The two treat life as a game, a series of challenges followed by rewards. The Puchuu gets results, so it encourages this behavior. However, as time has gone on, the girls have taken to mischief, playing pranks on citizens and other magical girls alike. Over all, they consider fun to be the most important thing, and see monsters as an intrusion to an otherwise good time.

Wasn't that the playtest where you ordered your allies to go clean up the other encounters while you and the main PC party took care of a single group of foes? I remember because I was testing mass combat and tactical ally choices.

That one was a little more complex than "everyone got off one attack and it was done", but since your allies were OP and the group was fairly big, I guess that's what it looked like.

Writefaggotry has fallen off considerably. Aggi, Myself and Sentinel Green still write, but most everyone else has moved to IRC and IRL roleplay. AMG Core is the blue .pdf's above starting from >>46766129 and is the more or less official mechanical system for IRC use as it's the most complete one that's been around the longest.

It doesn't follow the CYOA exactly though, and adds some extra stuff and hasn't caught up to the Patron doc. This grinds some people's gears, hence the recent introduction of the SCS posted in >>46783852, which is purposefully designed to follow the CYOA 1 to 1.

>>46848009
Yep. It was more 'Everyone got off one attack, one guy was surprised that his ally's attack ate up his attack, we got partway into round 2 and then three people bailed.' but that's more of a mouthful.
>>
>>46849059
>is the more or less official mechanical system for IRC use as it's the most complete one that's been around the longest.
Actually the SCS and AMGC began development at the exact same time down to the day. AMGC was intended to be a short-term solution so that Sahara and Ai-n could run the campaigns they wanted to run at the time, and they intended for the SCS to be the long-term solution.

AMGC got a following in the IRC because everybody likes to be able to make up their own shit on the spot and frankly most of the AMGC-unique features are pretty radcool, even if horrendously unbalanced. The SCS gets shit because the main dev is admittedly a bit of an abrasive asshole about some things, and most of the current IRC people either weren't around or didn't care when the two systems started development, so AMGC has basically caught on simply because of people forcing it alongside ease of access (helped along by the people forcing it as the "de facto" PnP system.

>>
>>46851367
CYOA works fine as a writing prompt but people've been playing campaigns and random pub RPing more lately.

>>
>>46851367
>The CYOA has kind of exhausted its potential
Not really, but people are having trouble thinking outside the box. We're in an RP lull because everyone's basically trapped in a community-wide rut. This isn't exclusive to the CYOA either. Even people that play just using AMGC rules are falling into this.
>>
>>46851389
>>46851401
Wouldn't more content fix this, at least in part?
>>
>>46851449
>>46851401
There's plenty of content, but more would always be welcome.

The big issue is that casual RP is a lot easier on the writers than stories- and I say this as someone who's basically put writing stories on the backburner out of laziness. Content helps but won't change people's inclinations.
>>
>>46851449
More content is a band-aid solution at best. The current amount of content is excellent for a variety of games and playstyles, for long-term campaigns, small one-shots, and little quest-based plots alike.

The fact that nobody's capitalizing on the plethora of tools the CYOA and AMGC have to offer is a travesty. Even without Origins in front of us and ready to go, we've always been able to ignore the line in the fluff about where the magical girls came from. The flexibility of the fluff also allows us to run anything from magical warriors seeking justice in ye olde townsend to a cyberpunk wasteland where mystical warriors take advantage of old technological advances to destroy monsters and terraform the land to reclaim its original glory, to modern urban fantasy where magical girls take center stage in deciding the emotional state of the citizens of their town through song, dance, and skateboard tricks. There's a lot of stuff that can be done and it's a damn shame that people don't take advantage of it.

Generally an RP community will only fall prey to this sort of problem for one or both of two reasons:
>The currently willing GMs are so few that when one or more of them fall into a rut, hit writer's block, or become unavailable for some reason, it impacts the entire community as a whole.
>The community is is plagued with vocal jerkwads that are allowed to scare off prospective new blood (both player and GM alike) that would potentially revitalize the community or spark inspiration.
>>
>>46851527
Well, pub RP means a lot of that'll just get...glossed over. I've seen some of those origins, but everyone blurs together in the Overcity setting.

FLY FOR THE MOON.png
1MB, 1280x720px
>>46851755
I'm working on a quest string and campaign that I'm hoping will change that. I intend to turn the Overcity from some background fluff that people ignore into an actual living set piece.

By design it'll be drop in/drop out, too, so people can play a session, mess around, and then leave if they don't like it.

At any rate, new content isn't going to change that Pub RPs gloss over important details, and making those details TOO important risks detracting from the character themselves. If it becomes a giant "look at my special snowflake world"-fest, it can become a problem. The opposite also holds true. It's important to strike a balance between people in pub RPs, as all of the characters have such drastically different backgrounds that it becomes a magical girl gumbo of personalities and lifestyles.
>>
>>46851527
Don't blame GMs for their (in)activity if people largely prefer slice of life roleplay and writiing out ships. Factor in also that most players aren't willing to risk their characters in a community-wide event, if there's a risk of lethality.
There's a mindset of being too caught up in telling a character's potential story that the OOC player will refuse to participate in arcs which could deviate from that hypothetical plot. Which, again, is a burden for the player and not the GMs involved.

Combine that also with mistrust for a GM - the idea that they might not be balancing the campaign correctly, that they may pull OP npcs or enemies out and you have a huge sense of paranoia towards people making plots that they're out to get you.

A proposed fix would be a multi-gm'd event that forcibly includes the community and players would be involved that challenges this mindset that everything in the setting is static and that other peoples plots and GM'd events can supersede player's complete control of their characters. If there's no threat to players or characters of course everything will get same-y and static.
But that would cause butthurt even if it would be fun.
>>
>>46851806
The issue with players is also a factor, but that's mostly because, well, players are allowed to not really be players, but people pretending to be players and futzing around doing basically nothing.

You don't show up to a seafood buffet and then not eat because you're afraid of getting sick on seafood. If you're paranoid about that then you just don't bother going in the first place. The same thing exists in regards to RPs. If you aren't willing to risk having your character actually interact with other characters (perhaps to the point of potential lethality), then why are you even bothering to show up to group RPs? That's not roleplaying, that's writing a story. If that's what you want to do, go write a book.

It's fine if freeform, multiplayer RP isn't your cup of tea, but don't pretend like it is then refuse to get your feet wet.
>>
>>46851755
I think people took one line in the CYOA way too far. Even if there's multiverse origins it shouldn't mean you need to try to go for the quirkiest origin possible.
I can count on one hand the number of magical girl characters which actually seem like magical school girls.
>>
>>46851844
That's a controversial opinion to have here though, in the IRC people will just claim that their characters are classically immortal like in the CYOA or they're a Cakes and Candy character immune to change. There's no way to reconcile this in the IRC right now, as every time it comes up it causes a fight to break out in ooc.
>>
>>46851908
>in the IRC people will just claim that their characters are classically immortal like in the CYOA
Except that doesn't exclude them from death, just make it so that they'll come back eventually. The CYOA's pretty clear on that one. Unless your GM explicitly warns you ahead of time "yeah you'll die permanently here", you don't actually risk losing any character in the long run. Shit, you could probably make a character arc about scary it was to die and how you want to avoid such a thing happening again.

>or they're a Cakes and Candy character immune to change
Last I checked, Cakes and Candy just meant you never suffered any lasting damage in combat and in no way made you "immune to change". If people are claiming that's what it is, then they may want to reconsider things.

The only people that have any reason to fear change are people who can't write or don't want to have to write a character arc that isn't 100% in their control.

Your world ends with you. To expand your world, you gotta open up your horizons and clash with other people, for better or for worse.
>>
>>46851961
If you make enemies in character you can't roleplay with your friends. There's no incentive to make a controversial character when it will frustrate your ooc friends that they can't be friends with your characters, and with the pub's ooc rule of neutrality essentially makes THE most popular channel in the irc a place which also actively goes against character development and progression.
It's just how it goes anon.

>>46851908
>they're a Cakes and Candy character immune to change
I've never seen that kind of argument pop up. Permanent lasting harm is what they are immune to. But you can still psychologically torture them and break them down into little pieces. They are in no way immune to that.
>>
>>46852038
>If you make enemies in character you can't roleplay with your friends
That has to be the biggest load of bullshit I've ever heard anyone say ever. I've been doing RPGs for almost a decade and never ever has something done in-character to another player ever actually harmed a real friendship.

Anyone that gets buttblasted OOC over making enemies with somebody IC isn't somebody that's in the proper mental state to roleplay in. I should know. I've gotten butthurt over ingame stuff OOC and I've regretted it tremendously. Vocal members of the community also won't let me live it down, either.

That's not how it goes at all. Don't lie to yourself like that, anon.
>>
>>46852097
>And still gotten fussed at for it about how it doesn't fit with the lore those people made for their characters
So what you're saying is that you got fussed at because people that were given ample warning didn't bother to inform their GM that it clashed with their character's lore ahead of time, and perhaps there could be an arrangement made?

So really you're just playing with bad players. Got it.

>It's more like the quest started and half-way through players got rolls that they didn't like so they asked for retcons.
>ACTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES THAT I MAY OR MAY NOT LIKE? RETCON PLS.

Guys, we are on /tg/, the place where people routinely go to get GMing advice. Crack open a thread on the subject sometime. It would work wonders for you guys to learn some proper GM/Player etiquette.

If you fuck up, you apologize. If a player gives you shit, you work with them. If players CONTINUE to give you shit, you give them the boot.
Players are by no means ENTITLED to play a game just because you offer to run one. It is a mutually-agreed position to be a player/gm pair. If one of the two doesn't like where the RP is going, they split.

The lethality of a campaign is not unrelated to the strength of the NPCs, so paranoia might not be the appropriate term. If the GM and players are working on different IC power levels and OOC perceptions about how risky an event should be, it's natural for some tension to result.
>>
>>46852211
You can't do that in this particular community without causing issues. No one wants to cause drama like that.
>>
>>46852222
Frankly, it's sounding like somebody should.

Stagnation is the enemy of a community that wants to stay alive. Sink or Swim.
>>
>>46852240
If the community WANTS to be slice of life you can't force them out of that mindset.
>>
>>46852254
Then why are they magical girls?
>>
>>46852260
For headpatting, yuri, lewd and cute girls doing cute things.
>>
>>46852217
Especially when players are deliberately avoiding power so that they aren't perceived as dirty optimizers.
>>
>>46852303
But you can do that in any setting.

The question is why you would want to do those things specifically in a magical girl setting as opposed to any other setting that they can be done in?

What does the Mahou Shojou genre bring to the table that disqualifies the many other genres that one could do those things in?
>>
>>46852335
You do realize most of the irc hasn't watched any mahou shoujo... right?
If they have it's invariably either Madoka or MAYBE Nanoha.
Cute lesbian girls are the main attraction of the setting for most of the current players.
>>
>>46852353
There's a lot of good magical girl shows, though.
Sailor Moon is a classic, and Precure is pretty good. If you're more into western stuff there's W.I.T.C.H. or Winx Club. Hell, you can even take inspiration from shows that aren't necessarily of the main genre. Toku shows tend to follow much the same formula, but with less frills and sparkles, and western cartoons like American Dragon capture the sort of "Peacekeeper against Monsters" feel that most magical girl shows shoot for.
>>
>>46852440
Even if they are good, again, you can't make people watch them or roleplay suitably for that premise
>>
>>46852445
No, but I can suggest that if you're not going to actually try to roleplay a magical girl (y'know, the entire premise of the CYOA), then you're probably in the wrong place.

The great thing about opinions is that everyone's allowed to have them. It's my opinion that anybody not trying to be a magical girl has no business here and is wasting everyone else's time.

Gwen is a Psychic DMG who has taken over her world and forced her version of peace unto it. Basically full Mary-Sue territory... Which is why I haven't used her since her introduction.

Ken is a Stone Dark Magical Boy. He's the twin-soul of Kara, who is a Gravity Avatar. Ken is... Fun to play. He, and his sister, don't consider the Twin from TwinSoul to be actual people and think they shouldn't exist. Ken also has a lot of issues that he inherited from Kara, but she no longer has those issues... Well, she does, but Ken is the one who feels them.

Gwen gives off the impression of being nice. But really she has an "It's all about me" type of personality. She says she wants to make the world better, but really she just wants everyone to do as she says. Russia tried to ignore her. Now Russia isn't on the map anymore.

Ken is... to put it simply, he's an asshole. He enjoys pissing people off and creating conflict. He also enjoys fighting and killing. So far he hasn't killed any humans, but that's only because his sister stops him from going that far. Though... He does "something" with the souls of the creatures he kills. And his personality shifts slightly every time he does this. So it's hard to really say what his personality is exactly, only that it is ever changing.

Agnes: She's still pretty much the same in terms of personality. She is more open about her insecurities now though. And is willing to share them with her friends.

Claire: Yup. Still the same. Though she's got a lot on her mind. And will probably be reappearing in the Wand&Circlet soon.

Kara&Ken: They're still too new for me to properly say whether they have or have not.

Gwendolyn: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA-Forget about her. Too much of a Mary Sue and likely is not going to be salvaged.

Kyrie: Somewhere between angst and finding comfort with others, but yea, more grim.

Kajiya: Yes, all of it is mental. Very much different, getting back a conflicting mindset and memories akin to torture to her would do that.

Ryah: Yes, she's actually more fine with being a mahou than broken down and cursing her existence.

Ceilia: Most change, more heroic, physically changed from corrupt caterpillar to mahou hero girl.

Chisa: ...Nope not really, if she has any it's tucked away and ready to be sprung to mentally break her!

Deadeye: Still pretty similar to how she was, though she's growing a bit more willing to interact with people and slightly less closed-off.

Inaros: Drastically; She went from incredibly idealistic to cynical over the course of dying twice and losing a family member for no reason. Turns out that tends to mess with a person's psyche.

Lachesis: Beyond the addition of an actual goal beyond "make sure as many people stay alive for as long as possible", she's pretty much the same person she started as.

Congratulations magical being, you have been accepted into Harmony Hill Academy! Do not ask how we found you, our committee has our ways. We'd like you to join us and learn what it means and how to be a proper magical girl and/or boy. We have an exciting learning program and a rich history to share with you.

Please note that we accept all kinds, magical and non-magical but to keep the balance in normal human society, please refrain from displaying any powers, transformations, and monstrous features from the magically-challenged students. Doing so will earn you being expelled from our academy. If you are a monster, please keep your human illusions active as much as possible. If you need to disguise yourself

Please note that this school takes place in a universe from the early 21st century earth. Those coming from advance technologies from other universes, please refrain from showing the non-magical students your devices. Those from earlier time periods, we are aware that you may be in shock over the advancements but please, seek a teacher or a fellow magical student for assistance.

If you accept and are already going to school, transfer arrangements will be made.

Okay people. I'm outta here. Apparently people don't like the idea of having their characters dying and staying dead without relevant perks to revive themselves. And that's just dumb. There's no permanent consequence to dying at this point, when you can just simply have them revive whenever and say that they got better because they have an immortal soul.

Fun while it lasted. Have fun.
>>
>>46967874
>Without relevant perks
But the basic fluff essentially says that every single PC is immortal by way of Revival.

There's never been a TRUE consequence to dying outside of specific campaigns that GMs should be establishing in advance.
>>
>>46967874
Don't agree that it's a problem- I mean, people'll play what they want and permadeath is easy for people to write on an individual basis as they want to- but shame you feel that way, and you'll be missed.

Good luck with your future RP.

Personally, I see it as kind of Dark Souls esque for Guns and Grim, note that a way out explicitly BREAKS the cycle of reincarnation for guns and grim in the fluff.
>>
>>46967874
It's worth noting that a lot of the recent commentary on IRC (before your post) was positive re: permadeath.

It makes absolutely no sense for SOME people to have resurrection and not others. Especially going in to a different world that has different laws over life and death. To say that your character is strong enough to break out of the cycle of that world is complete BS. If a God pulls you into heaven, or throws you in to hell, you really shouldn't have any say over it. If that world has equivalents to the Grim Reaper going around and harvesting your soul, you shouldn't be powerful enough in that state to fight something like that.

If you die in a different world, you shouldn't be able to say that your worlds rules are more important than the one you die in.

It says that SOME are immortal in the CYOA itself.
>Magical girls retain their free will, though there is pressure on them to conform to specific mindsets. They have impressive powers and occasionally some form of immortality. Most are not immortal, but the ones that are tend to survive longer and have much greater power but that it takes time to revive.

>Most are not immortal

However, it also says in the Age roll
>You are now immortal and will no longer age. However, you look quite young and will look like this for eternity. If you die, you will become a spirit, though after after a great deal of time and effort, you will be able to recreate your body.
>great deal of time and effort

So basically you can be immortal, but if you die in the roleplay your character is gonna be MIA for as long as the IRC runs basically.

>>46968556
Fully agree with you here.
>>
>>46968622
"A great deal of Time and Effort" is intentionally left vague, like the vast majority of the stuff in the CYOA. It's all up to interpretation.

Regarding the "most are not immortal" bit, it's left alone because while the expectation is that PCs will almost always err on the side of exceptional, it's left vague precisely so that some girls can have permanent death if their GM or Player decides to kill them off forever.

A Way Out does conflict with this in a way, but that's more of a middle finger to your Patron than anything else and pretty much just lets you die on your terms, 100% guaranteed, no questions asked.
>>
>>46968791
A great deal of time should not equal a day, week, or month. That should be obvious.
>>
>>46968622
You're looking at the Base. With anything I would run, I would use Core due to finding that better suited for combat and hard set rules.

In AMGCore it states:
>In some campaigns, if you die, you will be able to recreate your body after time and effort while being a spirit. In other campaigns, if you die, you die.
>In other campaigns, if you die, you die.
I take this as being DEAD and not coming back.

This is further supported by the Guns & Grim description for the perk "A Way Out", which reads:
>This will deplete the magic before it can escape your body, and spare any other human the fate of becoming a Mahou Shoujo candidate, breaking the cycle.
>and spare any other human the fate of becoming a Mahou Shoujo candidate, breaking the cycle.
This makes me think that if you die in a Guns & Grim quest/campaign, your magic will be taken and given to a new Magical Girl. And that "A Way Out" merely prevents this from happening so no one else can take your place.
>>
>>46968906
I agree, however you have a problem where there's no real measurement of time. It's an open community RP, so when do you say "okay so Avanna's been dead for about 4 months in-game and could reasonably have gotten herself back together"?

Individual character arcs can sometimes be used to measure time, but some characters are spending a week of real-life time to go through a couple of months of in-character time while others are spending a couple of months to progress through a week.

It's easier to measure when everyone's on the same clock, but we're not doing that.
>>
>>46968939
Then that's a campaign, a player's lore shouldn't interfere because GM fiat supercedes it.
>>
>>46968939
The SCS also has rules for Reincarnation times (based on the stat total of the dead girl), but they're specifically noted as being ignorable by a GM that doesn't want to bother with that much downtime.
>>
>>46968950
This.
>>
>>46968950
>>46969306
If you don't want your character dying and staying dead, don't join in a quest that involves perma-death. And don't jump down the throat of the people who want to run something with it.
>>
>>46968988
AMGC is the system used for PNP in the irc, so SCS is kind of irrelevant to bring up.
>>
>>46969333
Which is an absolutely reasonable stance.

That said, permadeath isn't going to be for everyone and when suggesting it, that's something to keep in mind. But when someone offers that option, you either say "sure I'm okay with it" or "no I don't want to play that" and leave it at that.
>>
>>46967874
Who're you?

Anyway, yea people are afraid to let their characters actually die. it is possible in both Cakes and Grim. In cakes, it's more of a plot point to die and in grim 0 hp and all the wounds equals death er sumthin. My own view of how girls are reincarnated are literally as a whole nother magical girl. Like you have to re-roll and start over. Wether your girl remembers her past life or not is up to you.

See you next week.
>>
>>46969575
...Huh, that's an interesting idea. Didn't think of that, may steal it.
>>
>>46969575
Based on the description for "A Way Out" under Guns & Grim, that's kinda what normally happens if you die during a G&G quest.

I saw that perk as ACTUAL death. Like, it's the only way out of the cycle of re-rolling. Dying and staying dead instead of being reborn as a new girl.

>>46969652
I'm using it for 3 of my characters so feel free to.
>>
>>46969747
>This will deplete the magic before it can escape your body, and spare any other human the fate of becoming a Mahou Shoujo candidate, breaking the cycle.

I think we're thinking of the same thing, but our wording is confusing each other.

The perk uses up all of your magical energy, thus preventing it from being transferred to anyone else who might inherit your power.

If you die in Guns&Grim, you would die, but your magic would still go on and be put in a new Mahou, who may or may not inherit your memories, or parts of them. I don't see how exactly unless they are also getting a piece of your soul too. But it could work.
