Hey /tg/, I'm looking for a good RPG for a military campaign.

How realistic do you want to go?

Strike! does gamist class based squad level tactical combat (think modern XCOM) well, although you'll probably have to refluff/restrict stuff a lot. Would be fine for a GI Joe style campaign of colorful specialists doing specialist things with their specialist weaponry.

Savage Worlds has a hardon for guns and military stuff, but is also not very serious.

Good military campaigns aren't in the game. It's the GM.

If I were to start something I'd use ORE for speed and gamist complexity. I handles damage in an excellent way, has a great mechanic for multiple attacks, and has a mod which includes UA sanity. It balances at first glance in a dice pool making very easy to modify. That's what I look for in a system and ORE delivers.

If you want gun stats look at Wild Talents. But I don't think that's what it should be about. It's more about the strategic and tactical relevance of different weapon systems. And that, of course, is the GM's job.

There's always Twilight 2000, 1st and 2nd edition and then 3rd edition, which is titled Twilight 2013. 2nd Edition is more forgiving in combat while 3rd is a bit more gritty/brutal.

I actually super super like Phoenix Command, but, then again I'm the crunchiest cruncher to ever crunch crunch.

I'm trying to get all of those sweet 80s "Soviet Union invades - wat do?" games, and modify them for a solitare mode.

I SHILL the ever living shit out of TWILIGHT 2013 as being THE BEST of the modern Firefight systems out there at Level III rules. It's not the GURPS level of autism (which means it's not 100% gritty), but, it captures the feel the best. LOVE IT TO DEAAATHHHHH. Plz play this one OP - we need more people who love the Twilight 2013 rules.
