to clarify Im working on a setting whee human souls are naturally demonic, shaped by the id, interests and talents and desires are represented as the "biology" of their demon, while blocks, repressions, restraints and such are foreign elements like chains, weights, blinders and such

for example the soul/demon of a creative man with writers block would have hands with pen like fingers, but those hands are then stuck in small cages

a closeted bisexual's demon would be a hermaphrodite with the offending organs in chastity gear that cant be removed

hardened soldiers would be cybernetic war machines/beasts having been hollowed out by their restraints and blocks

I actually had a similar idea for beings like these being "reborn" demons in my setting. After a hellborne is slain for the last time in battle, it becomes free from the the battle castes and is now a demonfolke, but now it wears and bears its sins like weights and giant headdresses and shit.

in my case the blocks are unwittingly self imposed, based on misplaced guilt, shame and doubt, Humans souls are demons because they were created by the devil as a race of slaves, but freed by the one we now know as god, who was banished from reality, which also mirrors the story of Prometheus, the devil then realized eh could fool people into rebelling against there liberator by writing a religion that made him look like a weak bad guy, and thus seem like he's really an underdog rebel, staining the name of the liberator with hatred and intolerance while the people who turn away think they are so smart for realizing the truth.
