Why don't the mechanicus just take a quiet planet in the middle of nowhere and begin learning everything again from scratch?

It wouldn't take as long as it did the first time as they can use all there cool cybernetics and shit to make discoveries and shit faster.

If the mechanicus had started at the start of the great Crusade in 30k they would already be have 10,000 years of Technological advancement putting them just a couple thousand years behind the Humans during the DAoT.

They're a dogmatic institution. They don't want to "learn" unless it fits in with their faith and rituals.
>>
>>
>>46461989

Yeah but what about just understanding the how the universe it's self works. They wouldn't even have to build shit.

Search for Knowledge my ass.

>Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods.

Because that violates the basic premise of the setting as put forth in every 40k book's inside cover.
>>
Because 40K is not a setting grounded in logic or critical thinking or even a semblance of intelligence.
>>
what >>46462013 said

Any sort of innovation or discovery is seen as heretical, hence Tzeentch and his whole change thing. Any knowledge they "discover" would have to be found within the ruins of the imperium, already made. Innovation is bad, and even if its discovering what was already discovered, its still innovation. I like to liken tech priests to the indians working tech support, they don't know how it works, all they know is you press this button, flip this switch, recite this prayer and it works. So, they're actually kinda stupid. Even if they did try this, it would end up taking a long time and probably wont accomplish much, because as soon as they get to where they are at now they would need to give up.

A good idea, and I think that would be an interesting encounter in a rogue trader campaign, a group of tech priests who flew off to rediscover everything on their own, and they have like better cybernetics, guns, but they have to be put down because heresy.

>Because that violates the basic premise of the setting as put forth in every 40k book's inside cover.
Tau violate it too
>>
>>46462166
Didn't one of the books say that a lot of their tech is a lot more advanced than they realize they just don't know how to use it properly, if they just learned how shit works on a fundamental level they might be able to unlock the secrets of their own tech.
>>
What's a possible endgame for AdMech? What could possibly end their status quo?
>>
>>46461298
Because they are too busy supplying the Imperium's vast hugeness with equipment while keeping Chaos, aliens and everything else from stealing their precious technology.

They have research stations but progress is slow. Between manufacturing, exploration and security, not much in terms of resources ends up in R&D. And that R&D has to make things that aren't inherently corrupted, is resistant to corruption, that won't get stolen and they are also working with flawed textbooks and spotty science.
>>
>>46462466
Making a human infinity circuit knockoff, stuffing it with quality souls and using that to make a Machine God who will force order onto the warp.
>>
>>46462653
Wouldn't that just make everybody a slave to the Void Dragon.
>>
>>46462605
But why dont just focus on learning the underlying science, all they need are some microscopes and shit
>>
>>46461298

Because DAoT level technology was achieved during never-seen-before growth and prosperity which is something you can't have in 41st millenium.

>>46462271

Pretty much this. Imagine you lived during Roman Empire and for some reason there was a functioning nuclear plant in the middle of Rome. The civilization has archaic and inadequate knowledge about how it functions, what its true purpose is or how to properly practice maintenance. You do know that with pressing these few buttons it should do its purpose, at least to a certain degree. There is no real way to discover if it's working at full capacity or how to really improve the situation, since experimentation can potentially ruin absolutely everything. Your best option is clinging to old traditions because that at least guarantees the power plant to function.

Isn't Mars, at least the lower levels of it, filled with old technology and data that was left down there during HH or earlier than that, and that it's likely for it to either rip your guts or unleash some daemonic virus that will be equally dangerous because it's been corrupted beyond redemption?

No, why would it?

Find a full and uncorrupted STC library.
Hell just finding 1% of one would be enough to give the Imperium the advantage over everybody else.
>>
>>46462693
Because the science involved is too complex for them.
Some of it (AI) is also noncooperative and tends to turn evil when you poke at it too much, so a large chunk of the old technology is outright unavailable.
>>
>>46462852
Thats why they should start at atoms and work there way up.
>>
>>46462893
Sure, that will work. In about ten more thousand years.
>>
>>46462693
>But why dont just focus on learning the underlying science, all they need are some microscopes and shit
The knowledge isn't fucking there. Even if it was, they'd need microscopes able to see quark vibrations.
The admech might have both, but they're on opposite ends of the galaxy and the magos' aren't sharing.

Only Cult Mechanicus ultra-orthodoxy says inovation is absolutely heretical.

Most higher ups just consider it inherently worse, for a variety of reasons, than redescovery of DAoT stuff, which isn't so unfair considering DAoT humanity's power.

The bans on it are mostly in place to stop idiots starting even more events such as The Age of Strife and The Death of Innocence from hapening again. As >>46463041 said, it's important to remember that a lack of caution lead to Mars burning down in warp fire and sentient daemon viruses.

That is the perfect example of why it's so hard to do this.
When the clues are on daemon worlds, tracking down this shit is a real pain in the arse.

>>46461298

This is not the way the setting's rules work.

Out of all the STC bits to be protected from chaos, the one about how to harness the warp is probably the best one.

I feel like this is the most accurate thing in this thread.
It's actually pretty much entirely true.

Yeah, its sad how everything that is even slightly sensitive to warp is a potential way for daemons to start corruping shit.

I've read enought inquisition and spess muhreen books to know that shit is just going end with half a subsector on fire with a exterminatus or two thrown when a daemonhost pops up.

>computer has warp-sensitive alloys in it

There is a ship, The Ark Mechanicus I think, that has a partly functioning STC at its heart but the AdMech did not know and permanently shut off access, still not even knowing it is there.

Also, I see them using tech like an old female salesperson uses a computer. They operate it and use it but could not begin to say how or diagnose a problem.
>>
>>46462169
We do not speak of them.
>>
Wouldn't making new stuff being counted as divine intervention? The knowledge was hidden in your by the Machine God and you discovered it, wouldn't that be good enough?
>>
They have all sorts of secret bases, research outposts, clandestine labs and dark cabals of magos researching into the ancients. These get attacked all the time, sometimes successfully defended, sometimes not. Sometimes the mechanicus destroys any trace so they don't get blamed for unleashing techabominiations, heresy, etc.

Also, research isn't like a tech tree. You don't just sink points into it until you get all the stuff.
>>
>>46466354

I think they address this by saying all the knowledge possible is already out there or something like that.

One of the Land Raider variants did come about by a Magos on a world under attack sticking a weapon on the chassis and claiming it as divine intervention though.

Because the Adeptus Mechanicus's engineering knowledge is actually moderately high. An average Tech-priest knows the basic 'workings' of numerous machines, and higher-ups can tell you a lot about what works, what doesn't work, how to get this or that to work.

They're mechanics. Hence the name. Their knowledge of the scientific principles upon which their machinery is based is minimal at best. They can make you a giant robot. Just don't ask them to explain the theory behind it. Because chances are, they have no fucking clue. And experimenting usually leads to shit blowing up, or demons. So yeah.

Another thing to understand about the Mechanicus is it is both open to research, and admires scientific thinking. However they do so in the mold of the medieval Schoolmen.

tldr they don't now the Scientific Method. Their like the ancient Greek philosophers or medieval monks.
>>
>>46465373
>>46464312

This is why Admech should focus on Necron tech and Null fields.

The Eldar are already proof that relying on Warp tech ans psykers, no matter how powerful, will fuck you in the crystal maker.
