excuse me /tg/ but if Sisters of Battle already have power armor why can't they have black carapaces and venomous saliva glands or whatever

Because spouting "they have Power Armour," is like comparing two completely different military forces with completely different technologies because they both have "chemical propellant firearms."

Because the writers of the setting felt it should work that way.

This is a setting where genetically engineered post-human power armoured supermen, riding massive motorbikes, do battle with dinosaur riding space elves, armed with shuriken guns..... THIS IS A SETTING WITH THE INTERNAL LOGIC AND CONSISTENCY OF A FUCKING TRAUMA MOVIE

There's a bit in Unremembered Empire where Sevatar and the other captured Night Lords use their saliva to eat a hole in their jail cell and escape.
>>
>>46203078
Because 40k renders armour down to simply how well it stops bullets and shit. Most of the differences between astartes and SoB power armour would only make a difference in something like an RPG.
>>
>>46203078
Because crunch doesn't reflect fluff, otherwise Space Marines would be nigh unkillable
>>
>>46201900
So if they ever got trapped somewhere and for whatever reason couldn't use a weapon, they could just dissolve whatever was keeping them trapped. Also they can spit in people faces during melee, though some chapters see this as dishonourable.
>>
>>46203322
But it does, because everything else is unkillable, too. The only things not fluffed as near-immortals are guardsmen and ork boyz and the like.
>>
>>46203428
But it doesn't, because Space Marines would be more unkillable than almost everything else by a long shot. If an Astartes is losing to a squad of 10, no, 20 Guarsdsmen in a direct firefight, then he's having a bad field day in fluff.

The problem is that it's unrealistic and SOD breaking for women to be in the military in the first place. Women are straight up inferior to men in combat, and there's no point to take recruits that may have a higher chance of failure in training, especially space marines, besides retarded political correctness. The only jobs that fit women well in the military is fighter pilots as they don't need to carry heavy weight, drag comrades out of fire if wounded, or need to carry excessive amounts of gear. Plus their lighter frame allows them to pull gees a bit better.

>>
>>46205684
I'm not a /pol/ poster you butthurt idiot. The problem is that logistically there is no point to hire women for frontline jobs outside of political correctness. Remind why you should recruit women, when you have literally quadrillions of males available for service when women are-

>Physically weaker
>Have a higher chance to sustain injury
>Can suffer from more severe reproductive-related medical issue than males

The only thing you'd want women for in combat is aircraft for reasons I mentioned above- their lighter bodies with less muscle are less adversely effected by Gees thus meaning they have more endurance for intensive maneuvers in space or atmospheric combat. But frontline troops? Fucking horrible idea that weakens your unit. There's a good reason why most real life nations that let women serve rarely put them on frontline duty and instead have them doing stuff like patrols in less dangerous areas. A female soldier simply is not going to be capable of carrying as much gear as a male soldier or dragging a wounded male comrade into cover when he outmasses her twice. Catachans female may bypass this by Catachans being mutated freaks with insane durability and superhuman senses, but the Guard recruiting female soldiers doesn't make sense as you're just gimping yourself.

Of course with the Sisters, the only reason why they're female is to simply exploit a legal loophole.

One thing to remember is Space Marines can fucking eat anything while on campaign. So if you're in the field with no rations - congrats, your spit can make it so you can chew and eat fucking anything and continue fighting with no regard given to supply lines. Less cargo space spent on hauling food is more spent on hauling ammo.

You can break your suspension of disbelief for space marines but not for girl soldiers?
Huge dudes wielding chainsaw swords and using them in melee in the same universe that has man-portable, rifle-sized nega-energy beam emitters that annihilate whatever they touch is okay but a woman fighting in the front line is not?
You don't bat an eye in front of reality-altering daemon princes serving ruinous powers in the form of four gods that represent both good and bad things of various parts of the human being as a whole and the existence of an entire parallel universe which is also kind of an afterlife modeled after the feelings of every sentient being on the galaxy, but a woman being worth shit in the front lines of combat sends you sperging?

Shit /tg/ what the fuck happened to you?

'Superior' is subjective.

They receive purpose-oriented augmentations that make them better at certain things Space Marines aren't built for.

A universe has to have some things consistent in order to be taken seriously. Space Marines and things like them are established breaks in reality, but other things must be consistent to maintain SOD.

Also it doesn't have to do with any nonsense with the warp or other magic. In 40k, women are not stronger than men. Therefore there is no reason to allow them to serve in the frontline in any role. The Imperium is all about cruel efficiency with no regard for human life- they shouldn't care if a women wants to fight outside of the areonautica/imperial navy. Unless human evolution suddenly jumps forward and sexual dimorphism stops being a thing for 40k humanity, women simply should not be allowed to serve in frontline roles. It makes no sense even by the setting's standards of logic that have been established.

Plus it only really started thanks to fucking FFG.
>>
>>46206357
>What are Guardswomen, female Inquisitors, and female Arbitrators?
Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain anyone?
>>
>>46206161
You are correct, yes. They pick from an even smaller pool of potential candidates, with even higher physical and mental requirements (fuck, back before the Heresy a lot of the problems started from Astartes just taking any Ganger who had a name for himself), and apply even more top-of-the-line augments that make their original capabilities of nigh-negligible importance and equalize all candidates into "Roidy McExplodyblood" or "Aimbot Sniperton" at the end.

... And yet there's females among them. I guess the Assassin Temples are just staffed by a bunch of politically correct tumblrinas looking to fulfill quotas, if we're to go by >>46205858 and >>46205956 's comments.

>>46206273
I explicitly said in my first post that I'm perfectly fine with "No girls allowed in Club Astartes". I also, conveniently, said it's funny watching people sperge out about the mere idea of there being any sort of female analogy, and it's a shame these threads eventually devolve into Biotruths.

Sure enough, here we are watching people spout Biotruths and "I support women that pass standards*" *lol as if they could, when talking about a setting where we routinely read about people doing things like firing a Heavy Bolter from the hip or become bullet timing speed demons without the aid of either drugs, augments, or psionics (in the case of a number of Inquisitors).
>>
>>46206403
Which are a handful of stories compared to RPG rulebooks that seemed to expand the meme, although I'm more talking about pre-5th edition days.

And female Inquisitors are fine- their duty isn't combat but investigation of heresy. The issue is that female guardsmen shouldn't be a thing when the Imperium has a functionally infinite amount of men to draw upon.
>>
>>46206429
The difference between Assassins and Astartes is that when the Emperor was making the Astartes, he designed the whole geneseed stuff for use on males, and maybe, MAYBE back then, the process was reliable and understood enough it could be adapted to females, but by now everything's gone to hell and they're lucky it works at all, much less on someone outside of the intended parameters.
>>
>>46206429
Well yes, that does actually make them a tad more fucking stupid in that case considering that females are physically inferior to "perfect" male specimens. Although the Assassins are also not looking for pure combat either, but infiltration.

But for all your sperging about how people keep posting biotruths.... er, they're fucking true. Women simply aren't inclined at all to combat. Considering that humanity in 40k still suffers from sexual dimorphism, this obviously still applies.
>>
>>46206345
>doesn't got on 4chan to get buttmad over b8
And to be fair, people like ND exist, so all of it is not bait

>>46206429
You literally posted the same retarded argument for like the fifth time, just differently worded. So
>I'm just going to ignore all of your arguments and repeat myself while proving all of the accusations thrown at me
>I will also imply that Imperial Assassins and Space Marine are comparable in their training, operations and standards because I know fuck all about 40k and real life military
>>
>>46206445
The issue is 'there's precedent and I don't like the precedent, therefore meme of -4 Str.'

Just shut up about it already. Nobody REALLY cares and you're obviously just stirring the shit.

I can get behind the idea that Callidus Assassins are mostly female because the Polymorphine drug works (for the most part) on women. I can get behind female Vindicares.

I can also get behind the idea that Space Marine augmentations were built primarily to work on the male genetic structure. And even those augmentations are so radical as to kill the vast majority of recipients. It's not even a matter of 'it only works on men, news at eleven.' I mean, it DOES only work on men, news IS at eleven, but that can't be the whole story. There's something in the recipient the augmentations are supposed to mesh with that most people just don't have.
>>
>>46206445
You do know Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain both date back to early 3E, yes? And that female guardsmen models extend back to at least this far (I'm trying to recall if some of the old metal guardsmen were from 2E or merely early 3E ones: To my '03-'04 Model Catalogue!).
>>
>>46206403
In one of those the women are just some dregs they picked up along the way and in the other they're remnants of a rear echelon unit specifically said to be "one of the few female regiments". So one of them is basically an accident while the other pretty much fits with what women are supposed to do in the military historically - free up men to fight. What we're talking about is actual fighting regiments raised on a regular basis, not some rare palace guard types whose only job is to look good.

If you want female regiments you can have them and you can very easily invent a reason why it would be even desirable to have them. What's the biggest reason people have sheltered women from combat over history? Babies. You can lose plenty of men and still bounce back demographically while the same won't be true if your women die. Hive worlds are also said to often suffer from overpopulation problems.

So there you have it. Millions of women sent to die so they won't procreate and put an even bigger strain on resources. They're inferior to men? Okay, just send more of them or hand them the easier conflicts. It's not like they'll be missed.
>>
Space Marine are all men, so what? The Templars were all men and you don't see anybody saying that Assassin's Creed should have women in the Templars even though it's not realistic.
The Sisters of Battle are simply different from the Space Marines in the same way drows are different from wood elves. They have some similarities but you don't see anyone sperging over the fact that one is a matriarchy.
And just because you can doesn't mean you should.
Can we explain female Space-Marine? Yeah. Does it brings anything to the setting? No, or at least not enough that it's worth changing everything just to accommodate that.
And seriously, you can already see women in the 40K universe all the time, it's not like they are banned from it entirely.

Just to be clear, I don't actually care whether female Space Marines should exist for three reasons:
1)GW is NOT going to change it all for you.
2)It's just a goddamn game. Seriously people, calm down. I know you are probably alone in your mom's basement, but come on...
3)If you are railing this because of feminism, don't you think more important things could be discussed rather than that?
>>

>>
>>46206738
This.

And those female Guardsmen seem to do the job just fucking fine, so let the topic die.
>>

And I'm more than fine with that: We have an in-universe reason, it's been canon for ages, it has sound logic (arguably more sound since it doesn't try to explain the finer points, just "It only works on males"), etcetera.

What is funny is seeing people sperge out so much over the point that they start making tangential comments like >>46206519 , and whinge about how obviously the /Assassin Temple in 40K is staffed by incompetent SJWs/ because they include /female recruits/ in their program.

Yes, it's pretty clear that GW isn't going to write Female Space Marines. It's also likely the closest they're going to allow any canonical alternative to be is SoB, which is - for the record - again fine by me.

What's great is watching people get mad to the point that Gaunt's Ghosts and Ciaphas Cain are just "a handful of stories" and fervorously beating it to the wet dream that next edition of 40K will be the one to finally remove all female models from the Imperium line and stories to show the SJWs that GW won't go quietly into the politically-correct absence of the sun.
>>
>>46206838
>finally remove all female models from the Imperium line

There were next to none to begin with and they were godawful anyways, that has never been a problem, not when so many other manufacturers exist for that.
>>
>>46206519
>Well yes, that does actually make them a tad more fucking stupid in that case considering that females are physically inferior to "perfect" male specimens.

Oh for the love of god.....

No it doesn't make the Assassins any dumber at all because the role of Assassins is radically different from the role that marines play which completely changes the rules. If you're a Callidus who has to impersonate somebody then it really doesn't matter whether you're male or female since you're jacked up with polymorphine anyway and your job is infiltration not combat.

If you're a Culexus then they really can't afford to be picky since blanks are absurdly rare and you can't waste anyone regardless of their sex.

Vindicares work with snipers so they won't give a rotten fuck about gender either - the Red Army sure as shit didn't. Only the Eversors might possibly care about gender since they're dedicated for combat. But then again these are drugged up lunatics who will probably end up dead anyway so again, who fucking cares.

Most guard don't carry that much equipment, though. Lasguns are light, and why give them all the basics when they go out to die? Lasguns are meant to be useable by children and old men - why are women exempt?
>>
>>46206987
Really, a lot of people forget most Guardsmen are actually competent, well-trained soldiers who generally know what the hell they're doing, and are just horrendously outclassed on an objective level by everything they're supposed to fight.

Put them up against rebel PDF troopers or regular human separatists, and they'll be total badasses.
>>
>>46205598
>lol can we Gland Warrior Soritas
>Okay, but what somebody started an alternate program that's final result was close enough?
People don't ask those questions, because the answer is always "sure, but whoever started the program is probably a radical/heretek of some kind doing it because that's his fetish" and the thread's over and done with.

They go for feemail space marines because they want to bait out a bunch of replies and feel accomplished.
>>
>>46207023
Being fair, GW's fluff for them bounces back and forth.

On one hand you have writers like Dan Abnett, who have bionics at least vaguely accessible by the average soldier and their troops seen as an actual professional force by all but the most incompetent superiors (of which the Commissariat apparently has a history of executing for treating IG as meat for the grinder).

On the other hand we have writers who treat IG... as poorly trained meat for the grinders. Bionics? Hahaha, maybe if you're a Senior Officer with ties to nobility or the AdMech or something.

The in-universe explanation is that it varies depending on regiment and theatre and whatnot, which works to degrees but gets frustrating when two brick walls meet each other and insist they know the One True Lore and the other is a heretic.

>Gaunt's Ghosts books are shit and made of make-believe sue characters for Abnett's pet setting!
>Get the fuck out of here we don't want you and your Napoleonic Warfare-jerking fanboyisms it's clear in Book A B and C that the Guard are a professional modern military force!

GW likes both your credit card numbers equally.
>>
>>46207023
It's just a meme, mostly originated from tabletop and the DoW games series and all the Space Marine fanwank from GW itself, mixed with years of "lel flashlights".

The joke being based on the absolutely true fact that yes, they are massively outclassed by just about anything non-human in the galaxy, whether physically or technologically or whatever.

Besides, the male/female strength difference appears insurmountable to us because we have a human POW, but I don't think an Ork Nob would notice any difference fighting one or the other, and neither has any meaningful advantage facing tyranids, or tau, or fucking necrons for all that matters, and I'm not even bringing in daemons or CSM or whatever other weird, horrible and apparently invincible monstrosity lurks in this universe.

So yeah, I think in this perspective being picky about a guardsman's gender is kinda stupid, an extra body is never a bad thing when you face something like that.

Biotruths are irrelevant in these discussions not because they cannot apply to 40K humans (though they don't necessarily: trillions of worlds are bound to imply minor and immediately invisible mutations from the Earth norm just about anywhere) or are inherently false but because what holds tried and true for real world tactics in regards to strength, gender and combat capability flies out of the window when uncountable unfathomable horrors assail you from everywhere all at once.
>>
>>46207166
Even the professional modern military force would get cut to pieces by the shit the Guard fights, is my point, because shit's just so bad that it becomes ridiculous.

But really, female Guardsmen aren't exactly a fundamental sin and sure, fine, the lore says they're unusual, but the important part is they can fight, and a lasgun is a lasgun. So this -4 Str attitude bugs me because really, who gives a shit? You're fighting Orks.
>>
>>46207261
Funny thing is that "lore says they're unusual" is exactly what was being claimed as the logical and desirable end-result by some posters ("If they pass the cut!" / "Biotruths say only a slim minority could walk the walk!")... and now that it's being pointed out "Clearly someone in Segmentum High Command is a Tumblrina" and "Who cares what new no-name authors like Sandy Mitchell and- *Reads a smudged hand* Ban Abnell write, back in 3rd Edition and in the much more plentiful RPG books their fanwank is clearly bunk!"
>>
>>46205017
I want to fuck Ferrus Manus
>>
>>46207367
I never really got the 'they're unusual' angle to begin with. I can get mixed regiments being odd on occasion, but we're talking planets where literally fucking everyone HAS to fight in order to keep humanity from being ground into extinction.

You'd THINK a few people would get the picture that the only thing that matters is dying for Terra and the Emperor after a certain point.
>>
>>46207023
Some Guardsmen are. Cadian Shock Troopers will have extensive training and years of experience to prepare them for the dangerous of the universe and how to properly fight. But the average regiment drummed up from an agri-world to meet a tithe probably won't know what they're doing, and will get assigned a young commissar who still things suicide charges are best.
>>
>>46207408
Especially since some worlds use a lottery to find out who is enrolling in the guard. So unless there is one woman for ten dudes on the planet, the balance is gonna be fairly equal.

I kind of love the idea of the irony of it - in some ways, this is exactly what everyone wants. A universe where people are judged by their merits, everyone is treated the same with no strong barriers between race or gender, and there's always a purpose for everyone. But it's done in this horribly grimdark way that gives you everything you want but not in the way you wanted it.

Sometimes I feel frustrated that everyone keeps in missing the dark humor that is everpresent in 40k. It is a legitimately funny setting, if you scrape away all the over the top grimdark a little.
>>
>>46205796
>spits in his face to get off
L-lewd.
>>
>>46207440
Well, another thing to consider is that a lot of planets would still have professional PDF units. A lot of people give the PDF shit, but the top few percent of the PDF would be the go-to recruitment source for a lot of Guard regiments, because near as I can tell, you'd only make volunteers the 'best' units in your local defense forces. If it's an all-volunteer force, then they'd be logical recruits for the Guard, would probably have loads of military training compared to new draftees from the civilian population, and would almost certainly know enough about fighting to be of actual use offworld.

Really, the Guard HAS to run the gamut from cannon fodder to competent all-volunteer forces. The galaxy's too big for anything else.
>>
>>46207574
Ah, but you have to remember, many worlds won't ever actually face a threat for thousands of years. PDFs are more strongly tied to the planetary government, with all the corruption that entails from a giant organization that's probably going to rest on the laurels of its forefathers.

And if you have the top percentage of the PDF regularly being whittled away, what do you have left? The rejects or the guys not yet good enough to make the cut. And if they don't have any serious experience, how good can the top percentage really be? At best you can hope they're good at hive gang warfare, but you won't find anything like that on an agri-world, and knowing how to shoot a gun in a turf fight is different from fighting as a regiment and following orders.

This is why the best regiments come from worlds with some everpresent threat - the Vostroyans have a mutant population to keep down and a long tradition of military service that they prepare for, the Armageddon Steel Legion has a constant war to fight with the Orks, the Catachan Jungle Fighters have to fight to merely survive on their world. I'm not saying there's no such thing as competency, but I'd argue the vast majority of guard are varying levels of cannon-fodder.
>>
>>46207166
>On one hand you have writers like Dan Abnett, who have bionics at least vaguely accessible by the average soldier
To help explain the discrepancy it would do well to remember that the Sabbat Worlds Crusade is being run by a Warmaster. That campaign is king shit in the Imperium during its time, so it makes sense for the forces to be comparably well supplied and taken care of.

Also the enlisted men get pretty crummy augmetics, just look at the difference between Gaunt's and Domor's eyes or just look at Merrt's fucking jaw.
