/tg/, do you guys have any cyberpunk music you can share? Doing a game and could use some good tunes to set up atmosphere. Glitch Mob's the only group that I know of that really fits the bill.

Access to Arasaka: Named after the corp from Cyberpunk 2013 & Cyberpunk 2020. Most of their work is free to download on their homepage: http://www.accesstoarasaka.com/v3/

>>
>Hotline Miami OST
Gives you a great mix of various artists that can -really- hammer home that delicious 80's feel. One of my favorite new treats in the second soundtrack is the artist Mitch Murder whos music just ejaculates the 90's on you, like in this gem.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlQ_JoxggrI

And if you've played the games, this more subdued song that will make a grown man cry. Since our group's all played the games, whenever this song comes on, we all know that shit is about to get really, really bad. This is the song that lets you know that your friends are gone, your life is fading, and no-one is coming for you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCikIkXslP0

>Kavinsky
Know as "The Guy That Made That Song From Drive," he's another pretty great source for cyberpunk music. And as an added bonus, his persona in music videos and shit is basically a Hotline Miami Character Except A Cyborg. Here's aforementioned That Song From Drive.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MV_3Dpw-BRY

>Com Truise
A pun name, retro synthes, and a groovy feel.

...Whoa, I did not know that Basil was behind the Robocop soundtrack. That's pretty fucking rad.

And forgot to add another two random songs that I've always been fond of for cyberpunk.

>Noisia - Machine Gun, the Amon Tobin Remix
Frankly, I hate the original of this song, but the remix makes it worth a listen. Chirpy and lilting, perfect for any deranged and reckless gangers that just fucking love to shoot guns for the joy of it. At least, that's what comes to mind when I hear it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9Kp61Ro_uU

>Ayria - The Gun Song
Trashy synthpunk perfect for various bars and dives. And what describes the average group of street sam than the begin of that chorus; 'Boys with shiny violent killing toys.'

For some reason, both of those two that came to my head are also focused on guns. I guess I should offer something for razor girls and katana-wielding sams, but nothing really comes to mind so instead, I'll give you another piece of club music. A song I honest to God found watching porn. And the music was by far more memorable, Scratch Massive's Paris.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fuEwoJASxo

>>44552206
Thanks, mate. And yeah, SebasiAn is pretty fucking rad.

OH SHIT, I forgot a great one. And a good example of how Good Music can drastically increase the quality of your cyberpunk experience. First time I saw the trailer to the new Cyberpunk 2077 game, I really couldn't give less of a shit. But pair it up with another song from the Drive soundtrack, and you actually get something a lot more engaging.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqVXTSBFw3o

Pretty much all of Skull and Shark is fantastic
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D7IKcBZqp3s

If you want a sort of funky, pop vibe stuff like Knight One, AMTRAC, Booty Thrill and Cherokee fit that vibe.

This similarly feels like a retro-ish pop song, as does the rest of Hush (the album in question).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6uLH5HqTes

And if you want some sort of aggressive, erratic, go-ganger music, Death Grips honestly feels like something they might still listen to.

Though I think retrowave and synthwave/synthpop are genres people associate with cyberpunk since it's rooted in the 80's and can fit the setting decently I feel songs like https://m.soundcloud.com/oneohtrix-point-never/ezra are much more fitting as their disjointed cerebral nature and the sense that the music is foreign, like it might actually be played in a future underground club/drug denakes it fitting that and I was reading neuromancer the first time I heard it so I'm biased due to the association

And people like you often forget that Cyberpunk is the world of the 80's 20 minutes into the future. I'm not saying that means it should all be neo-80's music, but there's a big difference between 2016's nearfuture and 1980's nearfuture
>>
>>44549168
Fields of the Nephilim is one my favorite, non-electronica bands for Cyberpunk. They have a wonderfully dark, moody sound with just a hint of Country. Their lyrics really touch on a lot of issues of social decay, and seem to be lamenting good times long past and the slow decay of the world.

Chill, you say? I've got one for you, and actually I'll swap over to Jap artists since it really isn't cyberpunk without Nuyen, Japan dominating the world market, and street sam.

>「WORLD ORDER」- Have A Nice Day
A pretty badass group, they've got some really awesome sounding tracks, feel free to check out their Machine Civilization, The Next Phase, and Permanent Revolution. The frontman from the band is actually a former MMA world champion. All of their songs come with some pretty fucking rad synchronized dance moves in mundane locations, too. Songs and videos normally combine to comment on anything from Idol Super Groups, the Chinese Government, the soulessness of Japanese company life, and more.

Have A Nice Day is more of less focused on Akihabara and the supergroup AKB 48 that are basically a group of young girls that are living the dream of being corporate simstim stars, living in completely restricted lives to the point that when it was found out that one had a boyfriend, her head was shaved, she was kicked from the group, and publicly shamed by pretty much all of the media. You can also go to their concerts and pay for hugs from your favorite idol, who are basically constantly competing for prestige and fame as the 'most loved' girl.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mkiGMtbrPM

>Susumu Hirasawa - The Girl in Byakkoya
The last track on the Paprika soundtrack, it's got a good sound. These tracks are going to be progressively less chill, btw. However, the Paprika soundtrack is a fun little example of stealth cyberpunk music, however. It was the first film soundtrack that bascually made use of a Vocaloid for vocals and was the last of Hirasawa's albums in which all the music was on an ancient Amiga 4000 from 1992.

>YOSHIDA BROTHERS - Kodo
A pair of brothers who are fucking rad traditional shamisen players. They do have chill music, but here's something a little more combative for your Red Samurai needs.

Whoa now, you can't mention Brian Eno without also including Stars of the Lid.

>Stars of the Lid - ...and Their Refinement of the Decline
Some fucking Grade A space music there, perfect for background noise if your space stations are more sleek and clean than bulky and wheezing with a failing air scrubber. This is a two hour album that you just put on and let it fade into the background as it tingles at your soul.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et_lDyRymrw

I'd have to say though that "cyberpunk" music isn't an attempt at extrapolation into what would be played in the actual setting. Even if the attempt would surely be paltry to the actuality of another 50 years into the future. It's purely an act of association of what people have as idealized as cyberpunk "aesthetic" because of the way cyberpunk never grew out of its 80's chic from bring birthed in that Era and from so many of its influences. The actual visual aesthetic has changed but the aural component has stayed due to the fact that it provides a certain high energy, brooding atmosphere. I personally don't really understand it as even though I'm a big fan of most all the music being posted none of it incites a mental image of the "hightech, lowlife" for me that cyberpunk is supposed to be.
>>
>>44571192
>none of it incites a mental image of the "hightech, lowlife" for me that cyberpunk is supposed to be.

Depends on how you look at it.
While your techno rave beat doesn't bring up the image of the street rat forced to turn dangerous merc for hire just to survive, it does show the descent of the general populace into drugs and hedonism in an attempt to escape their otherwise drab corporate controlled lives.
It should how ever be contrasted with something like classical or even just elevator music when moving out of the slums for the best effect.

Character themes depend on the character itself and are usually independent of the setting and should be whatever fits.
