Fire works against everything.

Everything.

And if the supernatural are resistant against bullets and fire?

Back to the basics, head over to the local church and contact the priest there.

Though really, fire always works.

It'd be rationalized and methodized to a point where even the mysticism of the supernatural would be explained away.
>>
It might depend on the type of supernatural, but bear in mind that most people are not only deeply superstitious, but, when they think nobody's listening or judging, actually believe in magic. I think humanity could deal, and it would probably be a really affirming experience in its own way for humanity as a whole.

The old standards.

Fire, salt and cold iron. Luckily we now have vastly improved production capacities for all these, as well as better ways to utilise them.

Also our improved communication systems mean we would be able to organise ourselves and spread useful information much quicker than the terrified peasants of ages past.

I'm reminded of a Mystery Inc. type horror/cthulu crossover sort of game we played. We each of us had different sorts of ways our characters preferred to viewing and dealing with the supernatural. Unfortunately things got kind of magical realm when we found out that fucking the supernatural things worked better at "capturing" or pacifying them than trying to trap or kill them.

Turned out the most effective weapon in the human arsenal, was our genitalia.

When it came down to the deciding moments of whether or not to kill us, the DM was too soft when presented with an earnest effort to beg for our lives or otherwise survive, even if that effort was offering sex.

It started with just one person out of last ditch desperation, but eventually became "Scooby Doo: Monster Romance" the game. I mean, one of the guys managed to land himself a slasher horror monster wife and eventual offspring, for goodness sake. I suppose in some sense for some of the other players it became rather sinister, when finding out about a new case or situation, and going into the situation with the intent to give the supernatural being the D or the V.

The bigger question that comes to mind is how do you set fire to a ghost, them being intangible and all.

>Not against Water Elementals.

Didn't use enough fire. Water Elementals become a hot mess when exposed to enough heat to vaporize them.

>>44405110

DIDN'T USE ENOUGH FIRE. Enough fire would create a vacuum by eating all the air in the room, which would cause the Fire Elemental to burn out along with the fire.

If the supernatural thing in question has form, like a simple monster, literally just keep punching burning holes through it until it's dead. If it's magically resistant to said holes, we would research and engineer solutions that would hurt it. Technology always finds a way if given enough time and funding.

If the supernatural thing in question is incorporeal or immaterial, like a ghost, we would search for ways to trap and contain it. At that point we would acknowledge spooky shit exists then contact religious leaders who most likely know how to deal with it.

If were talking offensive magic, like fireballs or earthquakes, we would just see them as weapons and kill or capture the user if he/she is going around causing trouble.

Like someone already said, SCP is a pretty solid example of what humans could do when faced against impossible things.

>At that point, 20 microseconds after initiation, the temperature was 600 million degrees Fahrenheit and yet the outside of the warhead was only just beginning to disintegrate. Gamma radiation from the nuclear reactions had already radiated up to 1,300 feet in every direction. A region of space about the size of a small angel over the main body of the Incomparable Legion Of Light now held the equivalent explosive energy of 1.2 megatons. This enormous release of gamma radiation had been absorbed by the surrounding air, heating it to a point where it released radiation itself. This formed a glowing ball of gas that was already 400 feet across and yet was continuing to expand at many times the speed of sound. Oddly, the center remained extremely hot while the temperature of the outer part fell as it pushed the surrounding air away. The heat radiated by the outer layer had produced an initial flash of light as bright as the Sun to the observers at the Third Armored Division 25 miles away, now it generated a blast wave that separated from the fireball surface. This travelled at ten times the speed of sound and pushed the air away before creating a partial vacuum behind it. The blast wave reflected off the ground and the surrounding hills, reinforcing itself in some areas, cancelling itself in others to produce a crazy-quilt pattern of blast effects on the hapless Incomparable Legion Of Light below.

>And so it was that the prophecies were fulfilled. The Sun Of Man was indeed rising over Heaven.

No, you have to steal and burn the sheets the ghosts wear and steal and melt down their rattling chains and turn the melted metal into an heirloom that is used at least once a month for a century at which point the heirloom will come alive and the ghost will be trapped inside of it and THEN you destroy the heirloom.

When the threat first shows it self an agency will be set up and given an amount of resources money personal and facilities based on the size of the perceived threat.
The agency will attempt to first understand the basics of the supernatural forces they're combating.
After gathering samples and specimens the agency will release effective anti supernatural weaponry to the military who will use it to combat supernatural threats on a larger scale if its that big a problem.
The agency may receive help from people who know of the supernatural or supernatural beings who are friendly to humanity

A good candidate, but chlorine trifluoride is even more fun.

>"It is, of course, extremely toxic, but that's the least of the problem. It is hypergolic with every known fuel, and so rapidly hypergolic that no ignition delay has ever been measured. It is also hypergolic with such things as cloth, wood, and test engineers, not to mention asbestos, sand, and water-with which it reacts explosively. It can be kept in some of the ordinary structural metals-steel, copper, aluminium, etc.-because of the formation of a thin film of insoluble metal fluoride which protects the bulk of the metal, just as the invisible coat of oxide on aluminium keeps it from burning up in the atmosphere. If, however, this coat is melted or scrubbed off, and has no chance to reform, the operator is confronted with the problem of coping with a metal-fluorine fire. For dealing with this situation, I have always recommended a good pair of running shoes."

Chemistry fuck yeah
