A friend of mine wants to get into Fantasy Roleplays with D&D. He's completely new to this whole thing, so which edition would be an easy start for him?
And for a proper thread, we'll share stories of past sessions.

Not D&D.

I don't think is matters what game it is.
No D&D then. What else would you recommend?

Well, I think a major problem in D&D is character alignments, so some TTRP system without those. I'm not the anon to whom you're replying, though.

GURPS Lite. It's 32 pages and easy to digest. GO from there.

For easy to learn systems you have a few choices. It depends if you want a generic system that can be used for fantasy, or a system specifically designed for fantasy.
For generic go with GURPS Lite or FATE. Both systems have their fair share of in built problems, but likely will fit what you need.
As for specifically fantasy there are a lot of crunchy systems. For the low end of crunch D&D 5e is the forefront in my mind for popularity and accessibility. It is easy to find a group to play with in 5e (especially using online tools).
Now this is controversial, but dungeon world could work. It is not my personal cup or tea but many people like it. It can be deceptively complex, as it claims to be rules like but has a pretty hefty rules book. Use at your own risk.
Savage worlds is another generic system with plenty of supplements, including fantasy ones.
Basically the good thing about generic systems is customability, especially GURPS as there is enormous amounts of content for it. As for non generic systems I'd highly recommend 5e.

>barely any tabletop interest in thailand
>literally none in the city i'm in
>not enough time to even do roll20
hell i'd settle for just Steam chat RP but all people want to do it seems, is ERP

I really like Barbarians of Lemuria.

It's made for more Conan-type games about cleaving through your foes with mighty thews, though. Magic is more or less reserved for NPCs. PCs can use magic, but it's nothing like the D&D "I spam Fireball" type of system.

You can tell when someone is just bitter and upset when all they do is post "please don't play the popular game."
D&D is good. 5e is great.

If you don't have time for roll20, you probably don't have time for /tg/
>>44049447
but there's always time for /tg/
