eh, I'd say i'm even less.

The high level processes (i.e. where do I go today) are what I am, if you kill those I am dead.

.... I haven't been convinced that you can transplant those processes out of the hardware, given that it's not a primary feature, and that we have already hacked out writting to preserve people's thoughts for others.
>>
Given you require the rest of the meat to operate, and even then functions are part of dozens of interrelated social assemblages that push and pull with your various meat desires, there isn't a true you. Shit's a product.
>>
>>43586617
I always felt that the self exists in abstraction and that if we could replace or build onto the existing parts of the brain the self would endure even after the old brain was gone. Of course it's totally impossible, with current science, to even begin to build onto the brain with that level of mastery. Unfortunately the flesh is weak and we will be betrayed by our rotting hardware.
>>
>>43586647

if you change the meat, the things that operate via the meat will necessarily be different. It wouldn't magically transpose your soul into a machine. There can probably be reasonable facsimiles, but its not immortality.
>>
>>43586677
>>43586647
>>43586617
this entire argument is inevitably solved with "hey let's just replace the brain cells in our heads as they die via either synthetic or organic replacements"

nothing a few regenerative micromachines can't solve.
>>
While the human consciousness is a product of many processes working together, what people often forget is that for every deviation (When compared to another human) and every memory there are physiological differences in the brain.

While the precise mechanism eludes us. We know the shape of neurons differs depending on experiences and thoughts in our life.

Blessed be the existence of one-egged twins and their contributions to science.
>>
>>43586686
with that line of thinking you end up with Theseus' paradox, which will end up with a philosophical circle jerk. Lets not
>>
>>43586313

Theseus' paradox is the solution to brain problems, as the answer to theseus paradox is always "who cares, we still have our boat".

or in this case, "who cares, brain cells die and are replaced all the fucking time"

>>43586728

Anon, all the atoms in your body are replaced at least once every year. You are literally an entirely new person once a year; nobody notices the change because it's so gradual.

Same deal with the mind; it's not a continuous entity, it's a bunch of little snapshots like a video. The difference between a normal mind and one suffering from trauma (or resurrection) is how different those snapshots are.

>Theseus' paradox is the solution to brain problems

Clarification: Theseus' Paradox is the solution to the question "if I uploaded my mind to a digital form, wouldn't that be me but not 'me?' It would just be a copy?"

A great game that touches on this is Soma, surprisingly.
>>
>>43589558

That metaphor only worms for gradually replacing cells over time. A digital upload would be more akin to "We built a boat in a physics simulator with the same parameters as the original boat and gave it the same name."
>>
>>43589581

>>
>>43589592
Not necessarily so; what if you built a synthetic brain, and linked it to an organic brain through some sort of interface; After the mind begins to utilize/fill the synthetic brain (either through concerted effort, training, or drugs), begin removing/cutting off the organic brain.

>>43589678
Why? The organic brain is transient and limited, a designed synthetic brain need not be so.
>>
>>43589669
>What, do you also believe in souls and ghosts and shit?
How the fuck does this follow from mind-body dualism?

The mind is an emergent entity arising from physical processes, and is capable of affecting those processes as they affect it, but they are distinct. The mind need not be ephemeral.
>>
>>43589692
There's no need to scoop out the organic brain and plop in synthetics unless you've got a snuff fetish.

Let that shit get replaced as it is damaged, like a healthy and young brain does.
Eventually it'll be as synthetic as you like, while having as much change over time as a normal biological brain goes through.

Even if you are going for the full brainal augmentation route, leave the organic brain in there and add a secondary brain elsewhere.
>>
>>43589669
As if the morphogenetic field theory wouldn't answer a lot of questions.
>>
>>43589540
ND also discusses various things without the lewdness.

Whenever something he actually cares about (Like the Nasuverse) comes up in conversation, suddenly he's super-serious, only responds to one person at a time, and will correct people on every single mistake they make, without participating in any of the waifuism or lewd conversations.

It's almost surreal when you actually see it.

>>

Then "you" doesn't exist because your whole body cannot survive by itself neither.

Of course it can. If you mean food and air, it's capable of obtaining those things on its own. Your nervous system isn't.

>You mean you woke up that one time?
No no, this is an example of what I call "Dad Logic," where you can actually work out what his thought process was behind his idiocy, but it's still something that makes you go "God damn, how did you not realize how inappropriate this is?"

At the time, I had two beds made up in my room.
Being a child though, I of course used the Spare as a play-space, thus it was covered with my scattered junk.
I don't remember what happened, but it was something that forced Dad to seek out another place to sleep...
Naturally, he figured he could use the spare bed in my room, only to find it was covered in my toys...
So, it "Dad Logic" fashion, he decided he could just bunk with me in my bed instead, which immediately had the probably intended effect of me NOPE!ing out of my bed and cleaning off the spare to sleep in it.

That's called age and experience. He used the fact that he was bigger and more stubborn to get the smaller and weaker one to go find the less optimal shelter. In effect you got alpha dogged by your dad.
>>
>>43591357
Dude. We don't need to debate it shit because we all know what ND is. A sad little man who likes to pretend to be a girl on the internet to get someone to pay any sort of attention to him. He doesn't need someone to validate this bullshit, he needs psychiatric help.
>>
>>43586313
Get in the fucking skeleton Shinji.
>>
>>43591357
>This is ruining the illusion of what I want ND to be. You guys are ruining the character.
Sorry...

>That's called age and experience. He used the fact that he was bigger and more stubborn to get the smaller and weaker one to go find the less optimal shelter. In effect you got alpha dogged by your dad.
Yeah, but realize this is the same "Logic" that had him thinking threatening to cut my penis off with a meat cleaver was a GOOD idea because he heard I had it out when the School Bus rolled up...

...While he failed to realize I learned to piss in the yard when your short on time FROM WATCHING HIM! (And he still does it to THIS DAY!)
>>
>>43591357
There's multiple NDs. Just make this one not canon in your head.
>>
>>43591357
You don't want a hurt and fragile ND who needs to find comfort in the arms and dick of a loving anon willing to accept him?

Why are you so fucking basic?
>>
>>43591644
>threatening to cut my penis off with a meat cleaver
He got into your bed AND wanted to cut off your cock? Are you sure he didn't want to make you his loli sex-slave?
>>
>>43591754
>Are you sure he didn't want to make you his loli sex-slave?
Pretty sure, he's too soft for that kind of thing.
>>
>>43591731
What? Hell no! ND belongs chained to the floor in some basement with a giant buttplug up his ass and urinal over his head. No love and acceptance here.
>>
>>43591778
>Threatens to castrate his son for a minor mistake
>Constantly pulling his cock out in full view of said son
>Too soft to do that kind of thing.

ND, your dad probably just couldn't find enough chances to slip you female hormones without raising your suspicions.

The self isn't made out of parts or systems. It simply is. You can't make a person into a robot, or the other way around.

Digital me would be a copy but it would also be me. We would finally have someone to play video games with.

Only if you're Jewish.

The "True" you is actually pretty boring. Mostly a glutenous pervert that likes to rationalize.

The Complete you is way more fun.

>what if you built a synthetic brain, and linked it to an organic brain through some sort of interface; After the mind begins to utilize/fill the synthetic brain (either through concerted effort, training, or drugs), begin removing/cutting off the organic brain.

This is literally
>Let that shit get replaced as it is damaged, like a healthy and young brain does.
Eventually it'll be as synthetic as you like, while having as much change over time as a normal biological brain goes through.

I would say you could do that, but as with anything you do that drastically changes your body, it should be slow and actually you arent just changing body, but transitioning your state of self, slowly accepting your new existance.

A guy who wants to be a girl will not simply turn into one just by taking hormones, its a completely different existence, his brain will slowly shift to it, for better or worse. A guy taking steroids slowly change mentality, a junkie too.

We woundt just replace the body to a machine in that point, you would need to "transition" to one, slowly getting pieces and then accepting your new existence as chrome beaulty.

>pic just tangencially related.
>>
>>43591522
Psychiatric help might be a little extreme.

Escapism is a perfectly natural mechanism. It's healthy, despite what certain blonde haired children with pizzacutter swords would have you believe.
>>
>>43589581
I don't know, but that doesn't really have to do with anything we're talking about.

If you suffer brain damage you lose cognitive ability. Hell, if your body is just sort of sick, your personality and behavior changes.
>>
>>43593203
I think the problem is that you need to slowly do the process, so you actually feel and see that you isnt simply replacing a brain for a copy, but, letting the mind adapt to a hibrid bigger brain, then adapt to a new mechanical, smaller one.

>>43594163
ND, go get it, see what they say, I remember you saying a lot of stuff in other threads dear.

I sincerely dont mind you all lewd escapism, when you need to go serious, you go, so eh, seriously, people getting mad on a thread about spooky nervous systems that turned in transumanism.
