Anyone still reading this?
I got burnt out on the anime 40 episodes in, but the manga is still great.
Is it worth watching past the first season?

Definitely worth watching, does have moments where it drags, especially if you've already read it. But it's made up for with the great humour.

You happen to know if it ever diverges? Like any large differences between manga and anime?
If you dropped the anime then you might as well stop watching anime because you just dropped the GOAT.
If it was S3 I'd give you a pass because it's a bad adaption compared to the rest of the anime for rushing way too much to get into as many fights as possible, but dropping S1? Disgusting.
Keep reading the manga in any case. I'd say the lowest point are some of the international champions, but it's recovered and then some since.

This, S1 is what got me into boxing in the first place.

Funny, my friend recommended it to me because I've been boxing.
Generally more into /m/ because of the hot-blood, but this was pretty good too.

It's been a while, but I believe that the first season of the manga was very faithful but seasons 2 & 3 had to cut content which takes away from some characters like Sawamura.
Nah. Anime covers (literally) all the good parts. The last good arc I remember is the war arc, and that's the final thing in the third anime series.
The anime is amazing, but this shit should've ended years ago. It's 27 years old now.
