Seriously, I was a huge Canelo fan up until after he fought Khan. He looked great against Cotto, then he went on to say he would fight Golovkin, only to go for a greatly outmatched opponent. And at that time the excuse was that Canelo wasn't ready for 160 and Golovkin wouldn't do a catchweight

I feel bad for Conor. He's so damn stupid and he doesn't realize he should be ashamed of this whole spectacle. Pic related, these bozos are actually holding up his championships like they matter at all. I'm not even trying to belittle his accomplishments, he just didn't belong in the ring with Floyd. He was out of his depth and only because of the legions of retards high on his appeal. It's a shame too because sometimes he almost seems like a nice guy. If ignore the arrogance and materialism.

Because Floyd abandoned everything that makes him Floyd. He was old, slow, let McGregor do what he wanted during the first 3 rounds then put up a high guard and walked through his punches. Despite that he still easily swept Conor aside.

canelo-golovkin.jpg

>Here’s what I recall from the six-round session I witnessed in Big Bear, Calif. (which I wrote about in a Gym Notes column): Alvarez was preparing for his first title defense against Ryan Rhodes and Golovkin, who I’d never seen in person, was getting ready for Kassim Ouma. Golovkin’s trainer, Abel Sanchez, wanted his middleweight to get some work with Canelo in order to experience the faster hands of a naturally smaller fighter. Golovkin was not supposed to give Canelo the “full treatment,” and it was clear from the sparring I saw that he was indeed holding back.

>Still, Golovkin “holding back” was a lot for Canelo, only 20 at the time, to deal with. And the young man did well. I’d say he held his own, even though he couldn’t hurt Golvokin with his best shots. What Alvarez showed me in those 4-minute rounds at 6,000-plus-feet altitude was that the Mexican star was willing to put in very hard work in order to learn his craft and to get in proper condition for his fights.

>I was not impressed by what I saw of Alvarez during his WBC 154-pound title winning effort against Matthew Hatton three month earlier. He seemed one-dimensional in his approach and his power appeared overrated. I wasn’t even sure if he would get past Rhodes, who was an experienced junior middleweight contender with solid skills. But watching Alvarez work his jab and exhibit good footwork while moving about the ring during his sparring session with Golovkin let me know that the kid was more versatile than most of us had seen in his fights up to that point of his career.

>Golovkin hurt Alvarez a few times – a hook at the end of the second round visibly stunned him and some body shots made him wince – but the young man kept his head and found ways to compete even when he was clearly tired (a combination of the altitude and GGG’s pressure) in the last two rounds.

Interesting article, Ill give it an extensive read later, but the situation in cuba is not same in the current year. One thing is clear, cuban boxer always have been promoted like shit, take a look at rigo, gamboa and ortiz, I think most of the amateurs are afraid about turning pro because they have good paid check in their homeland

Smart bet is to go for Canelo on UD.
Even if it's a competitive match, the judges are going to give it to Canelo, he's produced some shady cards in the past. For example the 114-114 scorecard he got against Mayweather was bullshit considering that was a one-sided schooling.

I don't expect it to come down to a close decision personally, I think that Canelo takes it easily, and possibly in a boring fight. But at the same time, if it does end up being close, Golovkin doesn't stand a chance on the scorecards

Also, I don't know if it's possible to watch in Italy -- but HBO is airing the "Super Fly" card next Saturday.
It's a triple header that is guaranteed to be one of, if not, THE most entertaining card of the year with Roman Gonzalez rematching Sor Rungvisai after their Fight of the Year contender earlier this year, Cuadras vs Estrada (Another elite pair in the division) and Naoya Inoue most likely steamrolling Antonio Nieves.
These are all high quality talent (With the exception of Nieves) and none of these fighters have ever let us down in terms of action in their fights, and I don't think they will now.

I don't know about you but my scoring is usually close to an official score card (take of that what you will). One judge agreed with me on the 114-113 score so if you think that's awful then maybe you need to step back and think. GGG even had the bias in favor so I was surprised a judge scored the same as me at all.

Golovkin looked pretty bad in his last two fights. First against Kell Brook, who he forced to come up to Middleweight from Welterweight. Then against Jacobs, who in fairness is the #2 contender in the division. Whereas Canelo only dominated his last couple of opponents in Khan, Smith, and Chavez.

Where do you people come up with this shit? How did he FORCE Kell Brook to come up? Faggot #1 Billy Joe Saunders was demanding 10 million to fight, that ain't happening. Faggot #2 Eubanks Jr. and his father were trying to dictate a bunch of stupid shit that flushed the negotiations down the drain. Kell Brook up and said he'll fight for the deal that Eubank Jr. had before they dragged it through the mud and it was made in two days. Nobody forced SHIT on Kell Brook. Secondly, all you kids that keep saying Jacobs EXPOSED Golovkin, How? By not sitting on his punches, throwing slapping punches that land on Golovkin's guard and avoid exchanges? What I saw was that Jacobs was dropped, uncomfortable, forced to reset consistently from jabs and highly ineffective. All that bullshit bravado and chest pumping didn't mean anything.

He is too proud of his heritage to do that, shaving that rusty crown. Saul O'Canely will redeem all of Ireland after the McGregor fiasco

Noice, I totally forgot

Cordina, Buatsi and Okolie have solid journeyman opponents

If I were Parker's team I'd do anything to get out of this. His career's gonna end losing a decision in front of 200 gyppos halfway around the world and nobody will care.

well it's pretty simple. boxing fans/casuals expect fighters to fight people who seem like they have a chance. they don't even have to actually be good, they just have to seem like a true challenge to the fighter. but wilder hasn't even been willing to do that. because he's not interested in becoming dominant in any way. he's looking to cash out when he has the chance with joshua. and he wants as much as possible to sell out his meaningless unbeaten record. that's a pretty cozy career to have, nothing but cans and then a huge cash out when you're still young. if he's saved his money then it will work out well. and it's all someone like wilder can really aim for. he's just not good enough to fight against the very best, not in any era. you just can't swing like that with your chin wide open at the elite level. you're eventually going to run into someone with a strong chin who can avoid punches. imagine deontay fighting against dwight muhammad qawi for example. he would have gotten messed up. he routinely lets C-Class fighters get to later rounds while leaving himself open the entire fight

>It'll be funny when Connor Benn inevitably gets exposed by a journeyman though.

Conor Benn had actually improved a lot the last time I saw him. Shows how far simply having the resources and network to train full-time with the best personnel can take you in this game where there's a relatively small talent pool compared to mainstream sports like football and tennis. There are probably only about 50 boxers per weight class who don't have day jobs

If I know anything about boxers he'll come back and get the piss beaten out of him when the money runs out. A match with Wilder would have been a lot of fun

He dropped AJ in sparring apparently, but this was before AJ was on the mexican beef and was a much smaller heavyweight.
