He's the greatest defensive boxer of all time his instincts are incredible and his movement is god tier. He's not a knock out artist or even an entertaining boxer but he has a deep understanding of the sport and the scoring system and has a formula that wins every time. Macgregor is an exceptional fighter and for his first ever boxing match against the greatest boxer of this generation he did very well but he was clearly not in his element and he didn't stand a chance against a real professional. Floyd would not be able to hold his own in the octagon like Conor did in the ring.

There was one minute left in the round and McGregor was no longer defending against Mayweather's punches. Mayweather's not a power hitter but even his relatively weak (for a professional) punches were stunning McGregor. Had the fight been allowed to continue, McGregor would have been eating punches for the remaining 60 seconds and would have been at very hihg risk for serious brain damage.

Why are people acting like this is a "win for Conor"?

For all the "no steps back" talk from Conor, this is about as bad a loss as it could have been. Getting outboxed is fine seeing as Floyd is levels above. Getting absolutely bullied by a much smaller and much older man with "brittle old hands", is a bad loss in my eyes and I don't know how others are trying to spin this as a "win" for Conor.

I think McGregor did great especially considerings it's his first boxing match... but no way was McGregor remotely close to winning. He sounds arrogant in this interview, believing that he came close to winning b/c he had exploited Floyd a few times early on, which otherwise would have been KO's.

What he needs to realize is that at their skill level in boxing, there are always going to be moments when you "could have" KO'd your opponent, even if he's exceptional; one thing that separates the champions from the rest, is the fact that they are skilled enough to escape those exploitations at the last second. Don't think that because you exploited him and almost knocked him out, you came close to winning. Exploiting your opponent is typical trait of good boxers.

If Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor walked out on to the street and fought with no gloves, no rules, just them and the street, who would win? Think about it... McGregor would win because he is used to using different moves and manuevers due to being a ufc fighter.

You think Mayweather could win in a UFC match against McGregor? They are both great at what they do but it is two very different styles. McGregor did not lose this match - he outperformed many experts expectations, he was at a very competitive level and he could definitely win in a rematch.

It was interesting to see how Mayweather used a completely unrealistic fighting style that you never see in the octagon, yet is protected by boxing rules, to take McGregor off guard since didn't know how to deal with it. The fact that McGregor was able to easily take his back in a striking match is hilarious though lol Mayweather would get choked out in no time if he tried fighting like that in a real fight. This is why you never only train one combat sport. It's fine to specialize in one, but you should at the very least always spar and fight under MMA rules so you don't develop unrealistic habits.

It was unorthodox but Conor could not commit to a textbook style without compromising his ability to strike. Tyson Fury has a free wheeling brawling style and he is heavyweight champ.

Conor's trainers failed to adequately prepare him for this fight. He should not have been wobbling by the 7th round due to fatigue. Also he was incapable of countering which is obviously a big problem.

Actually I concur, McGregor is hyped up as the 'best striker in the UFC' and a lot of pundits have pointed out his poor ground game. He is literally known for being a fantastic puncher and heavily relies on this. Yet against an actual boxer he is an embarrassment, his punches did absolutely nothing to Mayweather, and he gassed himself trying to hit as hard as he could and it did absolutely nothing.

The fight happened exactly how Floyd wanted it to happen. He only threw like 4 or 5 punches in the first rounds, that wasn't an attempt to KO Conor. He said he wanted Conor to get tired. Also he wanted to give the people a show. Why was Conor the first man in like 10 years who Floyd knocked out. And why did Floyd also guarantee beforehand over and over that Conor would get knocked out. Because Floyd was a million times better than him and so was able to to implement his script on how he wanted the fight to go perfectly. It's like when you're good at a fighting game, much better than your opponent, and so you want to style on them by winning in a specific way like ending with your super move.
