By round 9 the ref could have called a TKO but decided to do so by round 10. Mayweather was fresh the entire time.

I mean this fight was actually unexpected. People thought this fight would go a boring distance. It didn't. People also thought Mayweather would be clinching the entire fight. Mcgregor was actually the one clinching most of the time. Also, Mayweather was pushing forward most of the fight which is unlike his style. People would've been pissed if McGregor launched himself at Mayweather, Mayweather responded with the straight left, and McGregor goes down in the first 10 seconds of round one. He let people see McGregor do his thing, conserving his own energy. Let McGregor tire himself out. Then showed that he can fight aggressively, and responded by dominating McGregor. The ref could've reasonably called a T.K.O. in round 9, but let it go on. McGregor could barely stand at the end of round 9 and suitably lost in round 10.
I enjoyed the fight a lot. They were both being showmen, despite knowing nothing about McGregor I grew to like him in this fight due to his showmanship. This was a pretty perfect swan song to Mayweather's career, because it wasn't a fight where he had to rely on his strengths (defense) like he did with Pacquiao, but could instead go in and give everyone what they actually want to see in a boxing match.
