Anyone else here /out of the loop/?

I haven't been following any happenings in the football world for the past years. I have just seen that they introduced a video assisted referee. I looked at a major team's lineup and I barely recognized any players.

How do I get back into it? Just play a lot of Football Manager? Has this happened to anyone else?

I stopped watching football from 2000 to 2016 and it literally took me only 3 weeks to get everything (players, some rules tweaks, relevant clubs, etc.) altogether
I guess you should just lurk here and watch some games to get new players names
Though the biggest thing that hit me was the new high press high tempo strategies
