Serious question, no trolling, no fanboying.

Has Ronaldo's *CAREER* overtaken Messi's ?
Things to consider are team achievements, personal achievements, goals/assists.

I never thought Ronaldo would match Messi's career a few years ago, but for me, the power shift in recent years is undeniable.

Lets do a poll

If Messi never won a single thing and played for Malaga his whole career he'd still be GOAT. Ronaldo can win everything but if you sat someone down and asked them who the better player was, without any previous bias, 99 percent would say Messi.

Ronaldo obviously. Reminder he has a more extensive trophy cabinet than Messi. Reminder that Ronaldo did it with 2 clubs. Balon d'Ors while on 2 different clubs. Reminder that Ronaldo has done it with the national team. Ronaldo has a better scoring record than Messi in La Liga and internationally. Messi does more for Barca because he demands the system to be centered around him - that's why he ran every other star player out of Barca as they didn't want be reduced to grunts whose sole role is to witness Messi/win the ball back when he loses it

Ronaldo meanwhile plays within the system and thus allows other players to flourish. All of that while essentially matching up Messi in productivity while only having the ball at his feet for half as much possessions per game

Messi gave up his false 9 role so Suarez could play striker. He also creates more chances than any other player in world football, it's not his fault the likes of Ibra and Sanchez missed sitter after sitter. Neymar leaving has nothing to do with having to play for Messi, he left because he knows he's never going to look like the BPITW when he's playing alongside the literal GOAT.

>Ronaldo meanwhile plays within the system and thus allows other players to flourish. All of that while essentially matching up Messi in productivity while only having the ball at his feet for half as much possessions per game

This is so backwards. Benzema was the most promising striker in the world when Real signed him, and his entire career up to this point has consisted of playing a supporting role for Ronaldo by drawing defenders away from him. Bale has been a disappointment also because he can't play that free role he had at Spurs since Cristiano already occupies it. And Ronaldo can only match Messi in goals, and he has to sacrifice every other part of his game to do so. Meanwhile Messi drops back in midfield, creates 10 chances a game while also effortlessly scoring 50 a season.

so messi

>takes the most shots

>attempts the most passes
>turns the ball over the most

In short, he is a ballhog. It doesn't matter that he gets assists when, again and again, he has to be the guy who initiates the play while others are forced to stand around so he can do his thing and don't throw a fit.

You think Ronaldo couldn't get 15 more assists per season, if he forced himself into the central midfield, pushed everyone else aside and took 40 more possessions per game than he does now? He easily could but he doesn't think of himself to be above the team. Messi wants to be the system and muscles out everyone who who doesn't want to conform to that. Neymar bailed out because of that, just like Ibra and other before that.

Who do you think is more talented;
>Messi
He literally relies on his talent. He was as talented at his debut and he is as talented now. He never really progressed - changed style of play to stick to a team nothing. He was just there and whole team, knowing his capabilities, tried to serve him as good as possibly. Ronaldo on the other side is clearly not that talented. The fact that he worked to build a decent body and physicue ,and the fact that he became better year by year until his cap, prove he wasn't given this talent, he worked for it.

Who do you think has had the better career;
>Ronaldo
He was scouted in a small league full of Meme players, where he stood out, nothing serious tbf I mean even Danilo and some chicanos shine in that league. He went to United and won everything he could with it. Then, he went to Real and did the same thing. He has won fewer Spanish titles but one can debate weather Messi could win as much with an English Club. Im not saying it's a harder/easier championship but key players seem to fail miserably in that League.
Also a legit International Title.

In my humble opinion I would put both of them in the top 11 ever. I know some names from the 70s-80s-90s will pop up but honestly haven't there been 100 posts saying that defenders since 2000s and after were just filling gaps? The fact that Messi and Ronaldo still pound such stats even though defensive football is an easy option against them, proves they belong in the GOATs.

Messi is definitely more naturally gifted but Ronaldo is a grafter and has been at the top for his country and two teams whereas Messi has not done shit for his country and has only been at the top (emphatically so but still) in a team which essentially boasted near across the board World Cup/Euro winning talent in a 2 team league.

>Domestic titles
Ronaldo has 5, Messi has 8 (three won before Ronaldo's arrival to Spain). Advantage: Messi.

>UCL titles
Messi and Ronaldo have 4 each, although it should've been 3 each (Chelsea got screwed by refs against Barcelona in 2009 and so did Bayern against Madrid in 2016). Tie.

>Ballons d'Or
Messi has 5, Ronaldo has 4 and soon will have the 5th. It should've been 4 each, as Messi hijacked one from Sneijder and Ronaldo did the same to Ribery. Tie.

>International achievements
Messi's Argentina narrowly lost to Germany in World Cup final; Ronaldo's Portugal has narrowly beaten France in EURO's finals (but he was injured). Both players were carried to those achievements by teammates, namely Mascherano and Pepe. Tie.

>head-to-head results
Messi holds the lead here with 15 wins to 10 Ronaldo's wins (with 8 draws). Also, Messi scored 20 goals vs CR7's teams to Ronaldo's 18 vs Messi's teams. Advantage: Messi.

>systembabbying
Both performed great with great teams around them, both had worse (but still respectable) seasons with weaker teammates. People will shit on Messi's Xavi/Iniesta dependency, but where would Ronaldo be without Benzema and Marcelo? 100% tie.

>individual talent, skills etc.

>>
>>77682513
All wrong.
Bayern didnt get screwed by Madrid. If you remove the ref mistakes (for the both teams you know) the outcome is exactly the same.
CR7 has an EuroCup and Messi nothing, you bias canno change that fact. Yes he was injuried in the finals but who cares. He was the best player in Protugal by far.
In head to head Cr7 is ahead when it matters, in finals.
>>
>>77682582
>carried that team
He only had 2 great games: against Hungary and Wales. In other four, he'd only waste chances.

>>77682586
I do equate two final appearances in two big, international competitions when those appearances didn't contribute anything to the result of the final.

>>77682612
>Bayern didnt get screwed by Madrid

>If you remove the ref mistakes the outcome is exactly the same
Yeah, like we know what would've happened if Vidal was on the pitch for the entire match.
>>
>>77682571
>Plus, Ronaldo's never even been to the World Cup semifinal.
Actually, he has.
>>
>>77682668
Vidal should have been ejected in minute 47 in the other match. There were plenty of errors to both sides (2 Offsides goals for Madrid we know, but also and offside goal for bayern).
Ref was more one sided for example in the UCL barca-madrid when he redcarded Pepe for no contact and disallowed a legal goal for Madrid so you can substract that one too for Barca.
>>
>>77682513
Fucking this except the last part, Messi is by far superior to Ronaldo and can play in literally every attacking position. Ronaldo is more effective scoring because he has more power and is taller. Also, Ronaldo is declining since 2015 but carried by the best Madrid in the last 15 years, he can move freely around the box while his teammates create chances for him, especially Marcelo/Carvajal. Just look at most of his goals in the last CL, he's completely ALONE inside the box or directly offside.

Messi though has to carry Barça playing in the midfield (as Barça midfield has been shit since 2015) and also has to be the main scorer as Suarez/Nerman missed 3/4 clear chances per match. Then with the national teams it was demonstrated that Argentina is a poor team without Messi (they lost most of the WC qualifying matches without him) while Portugal was able to beat France even without Ronaldo, which of course played a mediocre Eurocup.
>>
Ronaldo has won titles with four different teams while Messia only with one. I think Messi is more talanted but Ronaldo has had a better career.

Did you even watch the matches? Real Madrid created a lot of chances in all of them and Ronaldo scored all those goals because he's good at that, not like Bencema or Morata. He's not the leader of the team anymore, RM is an amazing team in all the lines and their midfield is far superior to the rest, able to rape Barça without him. In general Ronaldo is still world class striker, but heavily depends on his team to create chances for him.

On the other hand Messi has been carrying Barça since 2010, literally the team is shit without him. He cannot score the same amount of goals as Ronaldo because he has to play as midfielder surrounded by 3 players all the time if he wants to touch the ball. It is true that his performance against PSG was not that good, but for example against Juve he was the best offensive player and the chances he created were missed by Iniesta and Suarez. You could argue that he's not that important with Argentina, although he was by far the best player of the team in the first 4-5 matches of the 2014 WC and most of matches in Copa America. He was unlucky to lose 3 finals as CR7 was lucky in the Euro 2016 getting the credit of a collective success.
>>
>>77683335
>Ronaldo carrying Madrid

lol, they have by far the best midfield and fullbacks in the world, chances get layed on a plate for him. You're everything that's wrong with modern football, rating the goalscorer as the automatic best and most important player on the team. It's the team that carries his sorry arse, not the other way around.
>>
>>77683363
Exusable or inexcusable, with VAR neither of the goals count and thats the only thing that matters.

>>77683454
Scoring goals is the most important aspect of the game by far. And you really underestimate how hard is to make them as consistently as Ronaldo does.
Without Ronaldo RM is harmless against any decent team. It was pretty evident in the last first leg against Barcelona.
Swap Ronaldo with any other player in the world and RM wouldn't have won last CL.
>>
Ronaldo is almost a coprse these days. A great shot in a important game shouldnt overshadow the fact that he plays poorly the majority of the time. Highlight videos dont show reality.

Messi without great players around is useless in club and NT BUT always good for a dribble against weak teams.
>>
Ronaldo has superior positioning and headers (Messi has none) and Messi has better dribbling.

Both equal at shooting the ball.
>>
>>77683463
I dont rate the goalscorer, I rate the best goalscorer. Benzema, Bale, Morata (all of them forst class strikers) they all play(ed) with the same midfield and you know what, they sucked. All the midfields work worth nothing if you can put it in the net at the end and nobody do it like CR7.
And btw real mid is not that great generating chances, Marcelo & Carvajal are the ones in charge of that.
Just watch the UCL final, you are clueless if you think that two goals were not hard or top class.
>>
>>77683463
Being there to do a "simple" tap in is a lot harder that it looks.
The way he moves, positions himself and anticipates every play, combined with his finishing abilities with both feet and head is what makes CR one of the best ever.

YOU are everything wrong with modern football, because you only look for dribbles and forget that football is actually a team sport.
>>
>>77683498
I'm not denying that Ronaldo is an amazing striker, but his success is a consequence of RM midfielders domination + Carvajal/Marcelo who are top players in their positions. Again, he scored all those goals because he can move freely near the box, getting the ball completely alone. Without his teammates he wouldn't be able to create many chances on his own as he is not that good at dribbling anymore. Then you cannot say he is "carrying" the team, because that's not true. Also, of course not many players could score as many goals as him (as I said, he is still a world class striker) but RM would still be as dominant as they are.
>>
