Buster Douglas was a highly skilled, widely respected 6'4" 231lb (Tyson was only 5'10' 220 or so) heavyweight who had 35 professional fights (30-4-1) under his belt when he fought Tyson. He had just come off of back to back unanimous decision victories Trevor Berbick and Oliver Mcall, both of which were former heavyweight titleholders that were considered to be near the top of the division. Addtionally, Tyson basically did not train for the fight and spent his entire camp doing coke, drinking and engaging in violent, public domestic disputes with his soon to be divorced wife, Robin Givens. Furthermore, Tyson replaced his long-time trainer Kevin Rooney with some inexperienced nobody after the previous fight, and now had no one in his corner who was part of the original Cus D'amato training unit which made him the fighter he was. Additionally, he had to deal with the fact that he was getting robbed blind by his then manager Don King, who was an actual psychopath who had killed two people already. Finally, despite ALL of this, Tyson fought a decent fight and actually knocked out Buster Douglas in the 8th round, but the ref gave Buster an absurdly long 10 count (seriously, go watch it, it was later timed at 13.65 seconds) which allowed Buster to survive. After all of this, yes, Buster managed to score a knockout against a highly demoralized an out of shape Tyson. So in conclusion, (you).
does anyone know who was the welterweight champion during mike's time? no. nobody would give a shit about mayweather if he weren't american.
meme weight category.

Buster Douglas was insanely talented heavyweight who had motivational problems and never bothered to get in shape.
Tyson's fight was the only fight in his career where he actually put on a good work in order to win.
That Douglas had a chance against any Tyson any time. The fact that casuals didn't know that and overrated Tyson to a ridicolous degree was their fucking problem.
Now Conor is another casual's hero comming from a different sport. The analogy is just not the same.
