They got lucky with the class of 92, a group of talented young hard working kids came through at the same time all in different postions meaning for the best part of a decade they could spend all their money on world class players (mostly - lol Taibi lol Veron) for a few positions.

Now they don't have a great class of players coming through together apart from Rashford they have to spread their money thinner, couple that with competing with City for most of their top targets, and Chelsea with their other top targets, just means they are fucked.
