Who do you pick, /sp/?

Unironically Lebron

Ironically T-Mac

TMac for sure

Thing is. Teams would know they can't stop him. So go with a small 5 and make him come out of the paint on D. Double him when he has the ball and/or foul. Best chance. Would be a good series.

Anyone who disputes this is 100% wrong
>>
LeBron = Shaq >>> Dirk >> Iverson > T-Mac

LeBron unarguably would be more valuable than Shaq if we're talking about their entire careers, but Shaq was a fucking monster in his prime.

Dirk in his prime could carry unspectacular supporting casts to the Finals in the much better conference twice, while Iverson did it just once in the East and gets overrated because he sniped one game off of a dominant Lakers team because he was super hot, but he could never consistently have games like that.

T-Mac in his prime was an inferior version of Iverson in his prime.
>>
>>76684350
And Shaq despite losing to the Rockets with a team less stacked than Lecuck's never averaged 2.2 points in the 4th quarter during an NBA finals with 2 other All stars
>>
>>76684379
Penny Hardaway and Horace Grant were all star caliber players, and the rest of the team was filled with solid role players.

>>
>>76684461
You'd be right 2 years ago, 2016 Finals LeBron was just as, if not more so, dominant than prime Shaq.

Lead every player in every stat in the Finals. Nobody will ever do that again.
>>
>>76683957
none of the above

Kevin Durant
>>
>>76684358
Disagree about Dirk in his prime in this NBA. I think people would attack him and he would have to chase more stretch 4s. He would get tired quicker. As for TMac. Man is underrated cause of the injuries. He can't handle like AI but can shoot him out the gym.
>>
>>76683957
where's jordan?
shaq i guess.
>>
>>76684542
Giannis could one day. Durant could. Westbrook could. But lose in 5
>>
>>76683957
dirk and AI are the only ones I could rely on to stay on my team and not bandwagon some other shit squad

probably dirk because in the modern era AI would need to shoot more 3s and I couldn't be the one to make em give up midranges

just look at what its done to monta ellis, as soon as chucking treys became the meme he instantly became almost unwatcheable as a player, meanwhile dirk was and continues to be awesome
>>
>>76684167

>>
>>76684623
Be too easier if Jordan was up there. Honestly it's easy now with Shaw. I would have replaced him with kobe or CP3 to make the convo more interesting. Or Yao.
>>
>>76684626
>more dominant than Prime Shaq
>3/8
Prime Shaq doesn't get held to 4 points in the 4th by Jason Terry and JJ Barea, especially not alongside prime D Wade and Bosh. Could you fucking imagine?
>>
>>76683957
Dirk is a literal meme. A lanky, slow, soft faggot who is listed as a PF but plays like a SG, cannot defend, and has only one ring which had more to do with Lebron being a total faggot than his own skill.

>but muh likeable personality
Don't give a fuck, talking strictly about his basketball abilities.
>>
>>76684598

Dirk in his prime was quick and agile as fuck.
>>
>>76684657
Not saying more dominant. Just lead both teams in every stat.
>>
>>76684660

How do you explain Dirk sweeping Kobe and the Lakers?
>>
>>76684670
I just don't think he have a chance against guarding these stretch 4s. He looked agile and quick because most 4s he was playing were slow. I think Green.Favors.Davis. Cousins. Griffin.Middleton .Millsap . Could get by him.
>>
>>76684439
>The only way to stop him was to force him to shoot free throws

And it fucking worked so what's your point? Shaq at the FT line was a liability. He basically had to get and ones most of the time or else he was wasting the possession.

He doesn't win without Kobe who made Hack-a-Shaq not a 100% full proof strategy for other teams by being able to close out games as soon as they wanted to foul Shaq on every possession.
>>
>>76684698
Dirk wasn't even the best Mavs player in that series, that was Jason Terry who broke the record for 3's and pretty much scored at will.
>>
I would take Shaw. 4-2 is better than 3-5.
>>
>>76684710
>And it fucking worked so what's your point?
Yeah it worked so well that in his prime he made Timmy "the cuck" Duncan his personal anal bitch and put on playoff performances not even Jordan could dream about. Protip: there's a limited number of fouls a basketball player can commit.
>>
It's Lebron

If it were 10 years ago, then it would be Shaq.

Basketball dynamics have changed, Shaq wouldn't be as effective in todays game.
>>
>>76684751
Terry and Barea both played well that series but Dirk still lead them in scoring iirc. Also they got so many good looks since Dirk demanded so much attention from the defense.
>>
>>76684851
Yeah fucking right, if anything Shaq would eat stretch "bigs" the fuck up.
>>
>>76683957
>not picking prime Shaq

literally why not.
>>
>>76684851
>dynamics have changed
That's only because that manlet drugged up faggot Iverson got emulated by an entire generation of manlets.

Anyway, if someone like Anthony Davis can unironically average 30 points and 10 rebounds in this era, a prime Shaq in this modern faggot league would dominate all possible records and make even Wilt look like an underwhelming player.
>>
>>76684950
He'd still dominate today but not to the degree Lebron does

He'd get rekt by 3ball teams
>>
>>76683957

>>
>>76684660

What a shitty argument on both sides. First off, the a Lakers series is a weak example of Dirk's value because that Lakers team was over-the-hill trash and the Mavs bench just auto-piloted through them after Dirk won them the first game in a close contest and it broke them.

Dirk's most dominant performance was in the WCF that year. Dirk completely put the team on his back to win vs the Thunder.

Also Dirk always made the players around him better because of the nature of his game. He is the ultimate floor stretcher.

There are next to no players in the league today who can do that, you think any of these guys are on par with Tim Duncan defensively? He got his lunch taken by Shaq

They lost in the last few seconds every time because slowing down the game and passing it to Dirk in the post to work his magic in crunch time was an unguarable strategy.

The Mavs notoriously pulled off multiple comebacks in the 4th quarter in basically every playoff series that year because their end-game strategy was perfect. Nobody could compete with Dirk's ability to score in set formations, so they erased the transition game in crunch time.

My team is the Bulls, so I think Lebron would be the best choice. He's 9/10 in pretty much every aspect of the game

Rondo
Butler
Lebron
Mirotic
Lopez

Wade coming off the bench. IMO this team would make the Finals, then lose to the Warriors in 5.
>>
>>76683957
probably shaq. Shaq was a better defender (MUCH BETTER) better rebounder, and better offensive threat to score then lebron. He was simply a game changer. Furthermore you could still build an NBA team around him in todays game and rock it like they did 20 years ago, most of the kids around here only remember post laker/fat shaq. When shaq was on the lakers and magic he could run the whole floor 40 minutes a night. And he would be able to stop lebron's drive too.

That said, Lebron is a more complete package, the only issue with lebron is he doesn't play away from the ball and you have to let him play "point" if you want him to rock.

Still T-Mac is the wildcard. I think he would have been even better in today's NBA then he was in yesteryears.
>>
>>76686078
I'm not defending Lebron at all you cuck, but the argument you made is idiotic, it's still just a singular play. Shaq got blocked by Nate Robinson once, is Nate Robinson now a Shaq stopped? And he also blocked Lebron at some point, must be the best defensive player of all time according to you.

Shaq might be a better option. If we're talking about the playoffs, Wade only needs to be good in bursts, and he can definitely still do that even at his old age.

Rondo
Wade
Butler

Shaq

You know KD averaged 30ppg that series, right? Fucking retard
>>
>>76684710
>And it fucking worked
no, it didn't

Hack-a-shaq only worked to prevent laker/magic comebacks. put him on the line in a close game and you had a solid chance of him only getting 1, which was a heck of a lot better then the auto-2 he was going to get from the low post.

Hack-a-shaq never stopped shaq from putting up 35 points and 20 rebounds with 5 blocks a game. And while Shaq was bad at the line, he wasn't ATROCIOUSLY bad, he could and did put up 50-70% from the line depending on the night. It wasn't amazing but it was usually good enough Hack-a-Shaq never really was a winning strategy. Unlike Hack-a-(Dwight Howard/DeAndre Jordan) which worked because both players shoot <40% from FT.

If you hack-a-shaq'ed too much you might just end up losing your low post defense, furthermore Shaq usually still scored even on fouls while shooting, so all you were doing was putting him on the line to add a 3rd.
>>
I'm glad people are finally realizing that Duncan was an insanely overrated system babby.

Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq, and Wilt were all way better than him at his true position of center.

Saying that Duncan is the best PF of all time is like saying that LeBron is the best PG of all time or Magic is the best SF of all time. Duncan never revolutionized the game in any way or brought any never before seen skills to the NBA. Just a superstar Center that was put on the court as a PF and made people go "WOW, LOOK AT THIS PF THAT IS THE ANCHOR OF THE DEFENSE AND SCORING AROUND THE HOOP BETTER THAN ANY PF EVER, GOAT PF"
>>
LeBron in today's NBA

I think in a classical sense Shaq is the superior option but things are getting more pussified
>>
>>76686108
Every player has always needed someone to compliment their skills.

Dirk needed a center like Tyson to guard the paint, and good 3-point shooters around him to make him deadly in the post.

Jordan needed Pippin to run the offense, do the dirty work, and be a defensive stopper.

LeBron needs clutch shooters to make shots when he sets them up.

Shaq needed guards like Kobe and Wade who can take over games when teams focused on stopping Shaq.

Iverson is one of the most influential players of all time, and Tmac in his prime was probably a top 5 scorer, ever.

Shaq is objectively the only correct answer.

He wasn't even a very talented player, he was just such a freak of nature that there was literally no way of stopping him.

Being a genetic freak is talent. Talent is something you are born with, skill is something you learn.

Wait a minute, does "in thier prime" mean I get Heat LeBron? 2011-2014 LeBron? Destroyer of worlds and ruiner of lives LeBron?

Because I want him.
>>
Lebron and especially Shaq in their primes were absolutely unguardable. T-Mac and Dirk (lol) never were.
>>
Shaq. The league actually had to create new rules because the only way to stop him was to not actually play basketball against him, making the sport an unwatchable farce.
>>
>>76686521
plus he had an uncanny ability to make them when they counted
>>
>>76688506
Nah, he was good in his prime but he shot the ball 25 times a game. What separates lebron and Shaq from the other 3(more Iverson/McGrady than Dirk) was they are much more efficient scorers
>>
>>76690020
>muh unstoppable LeBron meme

He was pretty unstoppable, except for Dirk's Mavericks, and Garnett's Celtics, and Duncan's Spurs, and Durant's Warriors...
>>
>>76690227
He said 2011-2014 retard.
>>
>>76690232
Oh you're right, he was only dominant after all the bigs retired and the East became a laughingstock.
>>
>>76690020
>Implying he's out of his prime
He did have a career high in assists and rebounds(also turnovers), and it was his third best year shooting(but worst at the foul line). So he's either still in his prime (he is) and/or the Cavs are shit and in need of him more(they are, showcased by his minutes going up and them not winning a game he sat out all year)
>>
>>76690280
He's not as quick and athletic as he once was, but he's way more skilled. I honestly think he's gonna be playing until he's 40.
>>
lebron and it isn't even a question

inb4 shaq, nah, lebron will make you a contender for his entire career span
>>
People really overrate Iverson because he was a flashy manlet. He played no defense and he wasn't that efficient.
>>

But we're not talking about the entire career, we're talking about their prime. And nobody had the prime of his career as good as Shaq, not even Jordan.

Prime Shaq is a more dominant player, but he was a lazy nigger and he was so big his body couldn't handle the stress of a full NBA season. He lacked drive and he was injury prone. Lebron never gets injured and always plays hard.

pick: Lebron
>>
>>76690332
I feel like he's the most overrated player to ever play, honestly. The second most overrated would be Steph Curry because it's inexcusable how such a one dimensional player wins two MVPs.
>>
Anyone who doesn't say prime Shaq doesn't know basketball.

>But muh small ball force him to play out

Shaq was never a great rim protector and prime Shaq was fast enough to switch on to forwards.

And Shaq would get 65fg% if defended 1 on 1 by any center.
>>
>Unironically picking Shaq over LeBron
Shaq had 0 stamina and relied on the rival's offence and defence to be totally static. Put him against a center that can shoot and he is death by the end of the third quarter. Also most 2kers believe that Shaq could dunk every posession which is retarded. He shot mostly crappy skyhooks and 1 hand floaters. He also had shit fundamentals and comitted offensive faults and travels all the time (sometimes they weren't called due Stern magic). LeBron is like a train. Once he is in motion he is basically unstoppable. On top of that he can pass,he has way more stamina and has a decent shot
>>
>>76690433

It was interesting to see Shaq vs Hakeem in the '95 finals. In game 1 they pretty much scored on each other at will, in game 2 Hakeem was the better player by a small margin, but in game 3 and 4 Shaq was completely fucking gassed and just couldn't keep up and Hakeem destroyed him.
>>
>>76690448
Not to mention he fouled out late in games regularly. Especially in the playoffs, and had to rely on Kobe to carry the team to victory against the best teams in the NBA.

Let alone putting AI on a different team, if that sixers team played 2-3 years later they would have won.
>>
>>76690393

>>
>>76690649
>LeBron

>>
>>76690644
Iverson could've been the 4th, 5th, or 6th man for a great team, but he was never the build-around-me player he proclaimed to be. You really couldn't make a big 3 with Iverson. It's not because of a lack of talent, it's because Iverson is the ultimate locker room cancer.
>>
It always seemed to be really easy to build playoff contender teams around Shaq. He's a phenom. Like Andre the Giant or something. He draws so much attention, double and triple teams at times. Everyone else on the team ends up getting a ton of open looks.

Shaq in his prime would completely turn the NBA upside down right now.
>>
>>76690649
>that's because the cavs have lebron "the loser" james
That "loser" won more with the Cavs than Iverson won with any team he ever played on.
>>
>>76690644
They would have lost to the Blazers and Spurs in 2001 as well. Probably the Kings too. Iverson gets overrated because of 2001 even though the Sixers were a good team through defense, of which he wasn't a big part of. 2001 Sixers had some great defensive players, but because they weren't flashy scorers, everybody runs the narrative of Iverson carrying the Sixers.

>>76690413
At least Curry is super efficient. Same with Nash.

>>
>>76690731
Nash was good, but I never remember anyone mentioning him as one of the GOATs. Meanwhile as late as last year there were faggots on here and elsewhere claiming Curry is better than Lebron and that Cavs with Curry would easily beat the Warriors with Lebron.
>>
>>76688341
that other guy is a faget but if you unironically think steph hasn't been one of the best 2/3/4 players in the league for several years then you are as well.
>>
>>76690307
I think he could be he gets soooo much shit for losing a chip and hes so self conscious. He's also self aware and when he knows he's really truly lost a few steps and if shit hits the fan he isn't capable any more of just putting the team on his back I don't think he'd stick around only to take teams so far and then lose
>>
>>76690771
When LeBron can't carry a team on his back any more there's decent odds he just fucks off and becomes a bench player for a team he likes. I could see him joining the Spurs if Pop is still the coach.
>>
>>76690771
Shaq was also self conscious and still is a thin skinned faggot, didn't stop him for hauling his fat ass around the NBA until he was 40.

Admit that your a dude who didn't watch prime Shaw play so you just go to basketball reference, bring em both up, compare PER and 1 or 2 other (((advanced stats)))

Little boys who never played sports think analytics are the word of god. They're worthless for football and instant this person has no clue what is going on give away (if you need explained why advanced stats don't work for fb then you fall into that category) However they're objectively great for baseball, which means they have their pros and cons, they're neither worthless nor great for basketball
>>
>>76695760

Hello Charles Barkley, did you enjoy your NHL playoffs?
>>
>>76695873
nice argument
>>
>>76695760
For the filthy casuals who trot them out in reagrds to FB:

There are too many moving parts in football:

EX) A receiver is running a timing route, he's supposed to break to the sideline and the ball will be there when he turns around. Instead he breaks towards the middle of the field...The QB throws a perfect pass that would've been a first down and is instead an int. How is the quantified by someone who doesn't even know the play call no less.

Conversely baseball is an individual sport disguised as a team sport. When you're at the plate, the object is to hit the ball. You get so many at bats over 180 games that it boils down to a statistical science when this batter gets this pitch he will hit it to this spot X% of the time.

That is not football, the sample size is far too small and there are too many unaccountable variables. Basketball is a mix between the two. They have some value, but simply 'watching the tape' like they do in fb has just as much. You can't go to bball reference and objectively tell me which player out of any group was better because you looked at 3 numbers.

Food for thought. In a single season jordan averaged 35 points on 53% shooting, won mvp, dpoty, and contributed 6 assists and 5 rebounds a game.

At the end of the next season Doug Collins converted jordan to point guard for a stretch of 11 games, in 10 of which he averaged a triple double and overall for that stretch averaged 33.6 ppg 11.4 apg and 10.8 rpg. Of course, this didn't translate to all wins and jordan, unlike some other players who play point despite not being a point guard, isn't some stat obsessed ball hog faggot who is more concerned about stuffing his stat sheet than winning.

In 92-93 jordan had 32.6 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 5.5 apg and put up 64 points on Shaws magic

In 89-90 jordan had 33.6 ppg, 6.9 rpg and 6.3 apg

Not saying you're wrong because shaw was a force of nature, but there is certainly argument to be had because jordan long dicked the league like no other
>>

Eh, prime magic johnson, averaging 22.5 ppg, 12.8 apg, and 7.8 rpg and prime bird putting up 28.7 ppg on 52/43/88, 6.6 apg and 10.5 rpg are both certainly in with a shout (bird also had a season putting up 29.9 ppg on 53/41/92, 6.1 apg and 9.3 rpg)
