Less people buying cable tv packages = provider makes less money.
They present their income to the Championship and they pay the teams accordingly.
This is why economic crisis hit Greek football so hard. Until 2008 before the crisis happened, Our championship was somewhere between 8th and 10th, sending (with back then regulations) 2 teams in the champions league.
Crisis happened, people stopped buying cable, provider made less, provider gave less to the championship, teams started lowering budget.
