Early suggestions are that Manchester City will pay around €50m (£43.6m) for Bernardo Silva, who has undergone a medical. [@Sammy_Goal]

GREAT
>>
>>76132116

He's a winger in a team that scored for fun. Also he was probably the worst out of the attacking player against City, Dortmund and Juve, that guy Lemar looked better
>>
>>76132157
He's played as a midfielder all season and it was mostly the strikers scoring the goals. Only exception is Lemar but this was his first season playing such a major role unlike Silva who has started nearly every match 3 seasons in a row.

kinda true, whenever he got space he used it well but he was kinda quiet most of the game, Lemar absolutely sucked against Juve doe

1st half only lost the ball twice, 2nd half he lost it more cuz he ran out of steam (thanks to the intensity Monaco played that game) and that's why he was subbed
>>
>>76132535
yet he's not a winger. he's a playmaker being used in a 4-4-2 with double pivot who receives in the wing and drifts to the center to create play.

lads, confused City fan here

Judging from this season with City alone, Pep likes three centre mids. He likes one to drop deep and he likes the other two to be involved in attacking moves.

Now, Silva and De Bruyne are both great players, but aren't exactly the same. Silva is a world class starter of moves, a brilliant passer, with the touch of a God and true awareness. Whereas De Bruyne seems to be more of a 'final ball' guy, exceptional at crossing and not afraid to smash one from distance

So does Pep like this set up, i.e. one "retainer/move starter" and one "stats" man? (as in, KDB got a shit load of assists this season, but I bet Silva was the one who truly made most of the goals)

Or am I reading too much into the individual styles of players? And have I got it completely wrong anyway?

>the real question
Where does Bernardo Silva fit into this? Assuming he's coming to City and not United (which isn't a sure thing at all) you would imagine he would be one of the two creative central mids.

>the DM
And what's his plans for the third centre mid? Is he making Gundogan eat horse placenta all summer, so he gets superhuman, and is never injured again? Or is Gundogan not tough/defensive enough for that DM role, and he's a backup to Silva/De Bruyne? Is the DM role for Fernandino/A. N. Other?

Of course, that assumes Yaya Toure goes. And while I love the man for what he did, now he is past it and should most definitely leave.

>while I'm here
Pablo Zabaleta, what a fucking hero. I was at the Leicester game, glad I got to see him one last time before he left. Thanks for everything, Zaba
>>
>>76134749
i think after all the busts they bought in defense they just gave up on buying defense and decided they will just win 7-5 every game
>>
>what is defense?

>>
To be fair as a replacement for Navas I'd take him. That right side of City's game is only >sterling. Nolito is probably leaving too. Think they could do with another midfielder who isn't permacrocked or old. Then focus on bringing in some wingbacks and a keeper if they're not keeping Hart and they're good to go.

If you're a city fan, you should've noticed how much Pep rotates his team, and how exhausted Sterling, Sane and KDB were the last month or two of the season.

Bernardo Silva is probably as close as it gets to a replacement for David Silva. He's creative, one-footed, and impossible to pressure. He's also got more flair than him, as well as being a better goal-scorer.

Is English your first language because it doesn't seem like it.

They guy spent £100 million + and has still won fuck all. He clearly has used his resources and he's embarrassed himself.

>when he hasn't even begun his work
Well don't you think he should get a fucking move on considering he would have been sacked at most top clubs by now...

The only reason he hasn't been sacked is that City are mickey mouse.
>>
>>76133086
they don't spend that big though

their biggest purchase was Hames (45 millions european dollars) and they managed to sell him for 75 to Madrid (which put into perspective Silva's transfert, but whatever...), and they didn't go in a spending frenzy since then

that still not beats the 80 millions they'll get for Martial, a player they bought from Lyon for 5. Aulas is probably weeping every night from this one I guess.

No they dont. Just remember that agains monaco the only attackers they had on the bench was Navas and Ian Nacho. Not only Bernie Silver already has enough quality to be a starter, he adds depth and is clearly the long term successor for David Silva, whom city missed a lot when he wasnt available. >>
>>76138019
Why do you hate Spanish players like Ian Nacho. He's great for his age, stinky, stupid pedro
>>
>>76137992
Kosc and Mustafi are a great partnership. They just got fucked by injuries. But you gotta remember, there are trolls and idiots. You can make a Twitter account in seconds and start shitposting pretending to be a delusional fan (Liverpool fans are often the best) and getting people to hate you by pretending to be one. Anybody hyping up players, and you know what I mean by hyping, are likely to be trolls. Nobody hypes up players for Arsenal because they either don't perform or get injured when they do.

Arsenal didn't get Top 4 cause Carzola was injured all season. Happened last year as well. Xhaka didn't replace him and was out constantly. But perhaps no Top 4 is the spur they need, but Kronke or w/e his name is the problem. While he's buying $1bn ranches, the club is being fucked. I mean, why care when Wenger managed Top 4 for 21 seasons in a row? Hopefully they'll realise money needs to be spent now.

I suspect Wenger will become a Director of Football with a new manager in charge.

Juan Nacho said some days ago that he was happy in city and liked learning from Pep, he also said he was not thinking of leaving. But he's young and dumb and will probably just do as his agent tells him. I'd loan him to Dortmund or Ajax or just let him play every minute in the cups desu.
>>
>>76138135
Nah, he should leave on loan, he is good but he is not Aguero/Jesus good (not yet at least, who knows the future), he needs minutes to not stagnate and cup games alone arent enough.

B.Silva played as right winger for Monaco, would be a nice if not better option to the pacebabby stylings of Sané and Sterling.

D.Silva and KDB compliment each other really well, though KDB is clearly better IMO. If he only had Silva's balance and control in tight spaces he would be the perfect football player.

I actually think Fernandinho is a great fit at dm, he brings some sorely needed toughness. But knowing Pep he's probably searching for a Busquets type player, who will get his shit kicked in in the prem.

They obviously need a right back and probably a center back for when Kompany goes down. I actually rate Johnny Pebbles, but he can't play alongside Otamendi.
>>
>>76139512
they need a LB, RB and CB aswell as a GK, but they are short on attacking options too desu. people are forgetting that Navas just left and Nolito is as good as gone too.

D. Silva and KDB are attacking midfielders, KDB isn't that good out wide.

That leaves Sane and Sterling, and Pep doesn't even rate Sterling as anything but an impact sub.

B. Silva can both cover for KDB/D.Silva in midfield and also play out wide.
>>
>>76139633
oh and from what i've seen of this guy he also tracks back a lot and can put a tackle in. wouldn't be surprised if he plays as a deep playmaker, kinda like Xavi. or even converts to a wingback / kinda like Moses at Chelsea.
>>
>>76139633
They need another quality ball playing CDM as well
>>

>>76133079

>>
>>76139633
Kolarov is good, but the've got all the money in the world so why not. At least get a younger, speedier option to him.

Can Gabriel Jesus play as inverted winger? Sané has potential but is not a CL caliber player atm.

What happened to Nolito btw? Aside from his temper tantrums he was good when he played.
>>
>>76139757
I don't think you watch City much.

Kolarov is gash, his stats are okay but when you actually see him play as a LB you want to break your television in two. He was OK at CB, but he is simply not athletic enough for it.

Jesus can play as a winger, second ("""shadow""") striker or as a striker, he's versatile.

Not sure why you don't rate Sane, he was the best player in the team in the last 5-10 games. Constantly threatening and almost unplayable at times.

Im guessing Nolito has fitness / weight issues. He doesn't play at all and doesn't even show up in training videos from their Youtube. Maybe a personal problem with Pep aswell.
>>
>>76139830
also, the City tactic of late is literally "give it to Sane". it seems like Pep instructs Silva and KDB to just get the ball to Sane and let him try and break down defences on his own. Aguero and Jesus just make dummy runs for him and he does the rest with varying degrees of success, so clearly Pep thinks hes good enough.
>>
>>76139830
Kolarov should just play as a wide midfielder in a Beckham like role
>>
>70 mil

christ. that is fucking stupid. how do we un-inflate the constant inflating numbers lads?
>>
>>76139924
It's 43m
>>
>>76139893
not enough pace for that either. he's probably one of City's slowest players. to be honest I can't think of a single slower player than him. maybe Fernando? haven't really seen enough of him since he signed to be sure though.
>>
>>76139924
Why do you care?
>>
>>76139830
I haven't watched their entire games a lot this spring, mostly seen them on MOTD. Maybe they were highlighting Sterling/Stones/Iheanacho or Bravo's shenanigans in the analysis. All i remember seeing out of Sané early on was brief flashes but no end product at all.
>>
>>76140001
he's completely wrong too. it's 43m pounds. which for a team that is already qualified for CL group stages and just signed a record TV deal is peanuts.

I can almost guarantee you there will be atleast one 100+mil signing this summer.
>>
>>76137400
Get into management and see how easy it is then you fucking melt. There is so much more to football than just having good players, how the fuck do you think Crystal Palace managed to beat the champions 2-1 in their own backyard?
>>
>>76140001
I care because if you compare the shit that's going on in football, English football in particular, right now with the real world it looks like fucking insanity. Also I think we're on the absolute verge of losing any realistic valuations on players compared to ability.
>>
>>76139512
>though KDB is clearly better IMO
incorrect opinion
>>
>>76140168
and Bernardo Silva isn't worth 43 mil? the guy that just won the Ligue 1 infront of PSG and had 8 goals, 9 assists and 50+ chances created in 30 games?

you do realise that this isn't 1995 anymore, right? the TV deal for PL clubs nowadays is literally 5 billion pounds a year. football has gotten a lot more profitable than it once was.
>>
>>76140168
Real Madrid just signed a 16 year old Brazilian nobody has heard of for around the same price as Bernardo Silva. Literally who gives a shit what multi-billion pound clubs spend their money on.
>>
>>76140225
and they'll make that money back with just their pre-season friendlies.
>>
>>76140187
Silva's a terrific passer and good in tight spaces, but that's literally it. He doesn't defend or score anything but occasional tap-ins. I don't like how he dribbles for the sake of dribbling either, he has the ball on a string but never goes past or really even engages the defender.

Any of u french , possibly most of these pots are made by 1-2 posters but anyways, got an opinion about Nice 2nd forward Donis?? He was meant for a Balotelli back-up, got a few matches, usually subbed.
He is a loanie from Juve. I heard Nice is interested in keeping him, but Juve is reviewing his case to see if they will eventually sell.

Formations evolve and positions change. The lazy, talented number 10 e.g. Riquelme, Yeste, Guti has also disappeared. You can't be a number 10 on talent alone - you have to have the workrate to match your teammates.
>>
>>76140592
>The lazy, talented number 10

That's basically Isco in a nutshell. Lazy. and. talented.
>>
>>76140524
he seems to play in better goalscoring positions for the national team, he's usually a bit deeper at city
>>
>>76140592
You don't see many second strikers either nowadays too sadly. Ronaldinho, Baggio, Raul, Bergkamp, Del Piero etc. were the most entertaining and skillful players to watch
>>
>>76140573
>ligue 1

Not saying it's a shitty league, and not saying Premier League is all that either, but theres still a pretty big difference. I reckon the average level in PL is just above Ligue 1 overall and way above in the defensive department.
France seem to be more about flair and tricks, while England is more about physique and stamina mixed in with some amazing talent and incredibly clever managers. Silva would probably absolutely dominate Ligue 1.
>>
>>76140388
not totally unfair, but he has also adapted to Pep's pressing style really well. had a great season this year.

So they're overpriced? Is Van Nistelrooy to Man Utd for £19m overpriced? Why is that the correct rice but Sterling to Man Utd isn't?

There were overrated players in RVN's time and they went for a price above the then norm. I don't know why you're trying to talk about individuals players as they relate to the landscape of the day. I brought up RVN to represent that era, not to compare him to said era.
>>

sure, but not to this scale. and it's getting exponentially worse

just a few years ago £50m was a fair price for proven world class talent, torres to chelsea for example. this isn't about natural inflation in football, it's billions being pumped in and ruining any sense of true value in players

they are elite. Hazard is limited to domestic football, that's not an elite player and Sanchez was spitted by a Spanish club, literally sold to China for not being elite enough
