It's incredibly relaxing. Not much physical exertion but there is skill involved that you master fairly quickly. While you throw the ball back and forth your mind can wander around a little bit, always paying attention to the ball. You're outdoors, in the sunlight. Plus it stimulates your other senses too, the smell of the leather from your glove, the sound of the ball hitting your mitt is incredibly satisfying.
