*DUMOULIN MEME TRIAL TIME*

Tuesday, 16 May 2017 - Stage 10 in the Giro d'Italia is a hilly time trial on a route between Folignio and Montefalco.
At 39.8 kilometres, the riders cover an undulating route with the last 4.5 kilometres going slightly uphill.

Stage 10 is the first of two individual time trials in edition 100 of the Giro d’Italia.
The riders leave from Foligno, where André Greipel took the 7th stage in last year’s Giro.

The ITT commences with a flat 9.8 kilometres section leading to the first intermediate time check in Bevagna.
Legend has it, Franciscus van Assisi has been preaching to the birds here.

At kilometre 12.7 the route starts to climb for 5.2 kilometres at an average gradient of 3.1% to Madonna delle Grazie.
The route rolls on to San Marco before a gentle descent runs to the second intermediate time check in Bastardo (at kilometre 28.2).

A false flat of almost 5 kilometres, a short descent, before the last 5.7 kilometres takes the riders home to Montafalco at an average gradient of approximately 2%.
The first rider, Matteo Pelucchi, leaves the ramp at 12:45 and the expected arrival of Quintana is around 17:15 – both local times (CEST)

>Eurosport broadcast starts at 13:17, local time. (GMT+1)

I do indeed, but theoretically he was half slowed down there. This was a lot faster in both the speed he was traveling at and of the event itself.

>>75947607
2agan's at least that much of a madman on descends he really wants to win. Can't remember if it was last year or two years ago, but he tried to catch up with... whoever the guy was in the break and rode like a madman downhill. Still not enough to catch up but did get his second place since he pulled ahead quite a bit on that descent.
>>
that toms skujins thing is as scary a thing as i've seen in a while. stumbling all over the road, putting his head into oncoming traffic to get his glasses, then stumbling straight into other descenders....and then neutral service lets him back on his fucking bike
>>
>>75947672
>moto causes accident
>people get mad
>moto helps rider from accident
>people get mad

not to excuse the neutral service rider since the man was clearly concussed, but in the heat of the moment on a technical and dangerous descent (and with no inherent medical training), you cannot blame the support guy for going full retard in retrospect
>>
>>75947706
>moto helps rider from accident
Putting a quite obviously seriously concussed rider back on his bike is not helping him.

It doesn't take medical training to spot concussion in someone stumbling all the way across the road, then stumbling all the way back into oncoming traffic.
>>
>>75947741
especially after the Giro flack every moto rider treads on thin ice for anything they do, so he was in that very moment thinking he;d be damned if he did anything at all.
>>
>>75947668
Lombardia was quite special, probably one of the most insane descents ever.

The thing is that 2agan always looks more in control during descending, Nibali wiggles and wobbles and straddles the cord of death in every corner if he goes mental.

Lads, I had a good go on Strava yesterday.

Michael "Rusty" Woods, a domestique on Canondale Drapac in the Giro is from my hometown and I beat his time on two segments. I'm certain he wasn't applying himself because I'm very amateur, but it was a good feel all the same.

Depends on your setup.
They're not at all designed for comfort, properly setup they're designed to put you into a position where your body will disturb the air as minimally as possible.
When one of my bikes got stolen I rode my TT bike for several months without discomfort.

Yeah, noticed they just barely broke 50th place, was mostly interested in anything that happened until now. What was Kiryienka's time before he fell? Did he have a shot at the stage? And what exactly happened to the other guy?
>>
>>75948611
The commentators seem so believe Kiry had a legitimate crack at the stage win if he didn't spill. Lost about thirty seconds to his time.

Brutt took a bad line into a chicane corner at a high speed and crashed into the fencing. Didn't look terribly hurt, but he got tangled up pretty badly.

I'm not following this year, what happened to Thomas? Wasn't he supposed to be in for the pink jersey?
>>

Couple of stages ago the whole Sky team got wiped out by a (stationary) police moto at the worst possible time

I know the motor ought to be on the side of the road but it was stationary after all. How didn't they see that?
>>
>>75949568
Not to mention that this guy is taking risks to win every second. You should never take risks in a descent when you're just cycling recreationally
>>
>>75950620
they were flying along at that point. It was just after a long bend, and the bike had only just stopped.

Bad mix of things.
>>

Exactly, the moto is still largely to blame since he was both on the left side and still on the street. Nevertheless, Kelderman I believe, was clearly not looking in front. He had enough space on his right to avoid the crash for one, but also, his team mate right in front of him managed to clear the moto. Check the white line on the left of the road right before they hit the bike. The guy in front of him slowly veered right to avoid it, then noticed it was a tad too close and pulled right a bit harder to clear it. Kelderman behind him also started to slowly turn right looking at the white line, though he was probably looking at his mate's wheel instead and followed his moves yet he panicked when reaching the moto and instead of keeping right, he lost control and his bike went left instead.

Just bad luck really. Motos stand by the road in literally every race all the time. There are a lot of motos in the race (too much, some might say), so they often have to park by the side for various reasons - repositioning so they can lead the trailing group instead of the Quintana/Thomas group

Also. being a motorcyclist myself, my motorcycle weighs 180kg wet and I wouldn't park it on the grass (as some people have said the police motorcyclist should have done). That guy rides a touring bike so is probably about 250-300kg wet, and if he parks that on the grassy slope he's taking a huge risk of crashing his bike. So I think he did the right thing parking on the side of the road, he was behind the line. It's just unfortunate that the riders crashed into him, but the riders hold some accountability in this. Especially the leading Sunweb riders who failed to warn the group that there was an object there. I mean these guys ride up mountains with hundreds of drunk Dutch fans getting in their face, and they always seem to get away with that. Maybe it's because the road on the climb was very wide so they thought it'd be fine, but they should've been more cautious

Problem wasn't that he stopped, but that he stopped on the left side. And that's literally illegal. From what I hear motos are allowed to stop since, as you mentioned, they just have to at times, but only on the right side of the road. Didn't particularly read the Giro rules, but this was mentioned by our commentators after the event.

Teammates aren't as important on the climbs themselves but between climbs they will help immensely. If you get dropped on a first climb and don't have teammates to pull you back in with the others before the next climb you're done for. It's what lost Tom the Vuelta, he was within seconds of catching the contenders without any help from his team but just missed out and then lost massively as he was left all alone.

Also while Kelderman did have to drop out this >>75950472 will help Tom out in the mountain stages. It's in Sky's best interest that Quintana has to go full gas for this Giro and now that Thomas is out they'll pull for Tom.

Kittel to win this one as well.
>>
sort of interesting finish with a 90 degree turn into a short steep hill with 500 m to go and then slight uphill from there. probably Kittel, but could be something for Dege
>>
>>75955641

>he got to see schleck bros, hincapie and leipheimer

based, the only time we get to see world tour teams here in Portugal is Volta ao Algarve, ive seen contador, pinot, kittel, tony martin, etc.
