why don't big boxing matches happen in the US anymore? what went wrong?

I ask boxing fans and they tell me they'd rather watch some 5'5 manlets than watch a big heavyweight fighter. I don't understand why you'd watch boxing if you can't see a big meaty Ko.

Floydmayweather killed off boxing

one is happening next week

Boxing is dead

Boxing was always dead. It always got by on super fights. Not enough big name fighters these days. You could have the most entertaining fight of all time but nobody cares if the fighters are unknown.

maybe because you appreciate the sport or something

Americans are complete bottlers. You're held up by 'African-Americans' who couldn't bust a grape. American boxing coaches and the American amateur program is straight trash, everyone who comes out of it is Mr Billy Two-Punches with a glass jaw to boot.

Uzbekistan unironically has a better amateur program than the United States now. Sad.

Many such cases.

Boxing has a new home. It's come back to where it began

We're also smashing PPV numbers here and with Joshua spearheading boxing it's about to be launched into the stratosphere in the UK

There used to be a time where boxers got their names by going 50-0 against nobodies, then promoters would finally put them off against another 50-0 guy and call it a superfight. That just doesn't draw anymore.

Now you have nobodies doing the WWE/McGregor trashtalking wanting to be paid every fight like it's a superfight. It's just not worth it considering it's not that entertaining to watch. At least with MMA you almost know you'll see a few knockouts or submissions in a card.

AJ and Haye are Africans too you realise.

Froch, Calzaghe, Hatton, Fury, Bellew etc. aren't though you mong.

The American working class just does not breed fighters, our boxing pool of talent at least represents our demographics a little better than yours which is fully dependent on Africans.

The whole boxing industry is just a huge marketing gimmick because it's actually not very popular. That is why the best fighters hardly ever fight each other and when they do, it often spells the end for one of their careers. They spend months/years hyping new stars up, constantly feeding them journeymen until they have a good record. This allows the promoters, boxers and the PPV owners to make huge money that they otherwise wouldn't get due to the sport's lack of real hardcore fans. Boxing mainly attracts fairweather fans, those that are attracted to the drama rather than the art of the sport.
The other problem is that you'll only get pushed if you're marketable in boxing, there're probably countless other potential stars out there, but if you don't have the look or the story then you won't make it. In this respect it's a lot like professional wrestling.

To give an analogy it's a bit like Djokovic, Federer etc playing the 100th and lower in the world ranked players before playing one another once or twice in their careers.

Wee Carl Frampton to represent Norn Iron as well.

America just has more sports that poor black people can play. And there is more chances in Football/Basketball. Boxing doesn't have college scholarships, so there isn't enough of an incentive growing up.

While UK basically has soccer. Rugby is only accessible to rich people there.

It's a bit like Bayern Munich playing against farmers all season and then having 1 big Champions League match a year... oh wait, that already happens.
