Russian league has a foreigner limit (which was intended to get more good Russian players but is counterproductive), but because there are so little good Russian players they just make 3 million per year at age 21 and don't even care about improving because the teams need good players to fullfil the foreigner limit requirments. That is why Russian footballers inside of Russia have stereotypes of being overpaid annoying brats and is why young Russian players get boo'd often. But because they make so much money they don't go abroad either which means they don't learn different styles of football.

Also, all the young generation players grew up in '90s when everyone was poor as shit and no one could affort to put their kids on football training.

Eventually Russia will become good for their population size, probably 20 years or so, when foreigner limit is gone and every keed is on a footba club with training and not playing on the streets.

Ive been playing street hockey, roller, outdoor roller and ice (when my parents could afford it) since I was little little little. Living by an outdoor free to use inline rink with nets was a huge catalyst for this. Never needed pads or anything for that stuff besides ice.

Also brand new hockey gear here can run $200-$300 a piece if not more. Ive never been too picky and am fine with a $35 slightly used helmet or gloves.
