>>
>>75564559
Most linemen are the smartest guys on the field. A lot of quarterbacks don't have any idea what they're doing and they get saved by their linemen making blocking adjustments on the fly. Same with defenses and defensive linemen running twist games on the fly. Anyone who has played the sport can tell you this.

The skinny guys get way more credit than what they deserve.

Pretty much this most skill positions run, get ball, run it's why they chimp out so much. Olinemen need to have ridiculous discipline change up what they're doing on the fly, block down field into the 2nd and 3rd levels, not blocking down field on passes, pull for screens and to pick up open defenders. A good line is worth it's weight in gold look at the Cowboys and how dramatic the change was when they built their line up.

>>75564559
It depends. OT is a high IQ position because it relies on smarts, spatial awareness and technical fundamentals rather than just brute strength. Look at someone like Joe Thomas, he's not the biggest and definitely not the strongest man on the field but he shuts down premier pass rushers on the regular, because he's smarter than even the most QBs in football.

Guards however tend to be dumber than shit though, because most of them have run blocking as their main focus and since most run blockers tend to play in a man scheme, all they need is to be really fucking fat and really fucking strong.

Then you've got centers and those guys are basically a weaker guard but with the IQ of an OT since they have to recognize pass rushing/coverage patterns and call line audibles all the time. This is also why the best centers of all time are almost exclusively white.

This, except I'd argue every draft is like throwing darts at the board. It makes a lot of sense to trade away your first round picks and pick up third rounders and on and work on molding them. All the players have to be molded the same, and it's probably better to profile for players with a good work ethic than ridiculous physical stats because everyone can get injured all the same, and throwing away all your money for a glass cannon is retarded. Every player is a glass cannon, and you might as well get two cheaper ones instead of an expensive one that can break the same.

They finished with the #1 defense and won a playoff game.

They have a few pro bowlers with a top 5 OVERALL player on defense.

Bill O'brien is a stable coach to your team.

>>75565028
I think Watson might be a good fit. He seems like a humble kid and the Texans are giving him the ultimate defense to piggyback off of and a couple of tools to use on offense. The only thing I'd worry about is the strength of their Offensive Line and whether they can land or craft a decent power back that keeps other teams wary of their run game. I think Watson can pull of this year what Dak did last year if they mold him right. Not expecting a ring or anything crazy since he's just a rookie, but I can definitely see them getting far.

My only worry is if Watson develop in time before JJ Watt and other defensive members break down of old age and overuse. He's gotta produce in the next 2-3 years or else the defense will be drastically different from what it is now.

Not really, watch the tape again. Then compare the level of talent each had around them.

Half of the people in /nfl/ have no clue about college football and get their opinions from national media pundits. After having some time to think about it I'm more okay with the Bengals taking Ross.

Their 3 biggest needs are OL, LB, and DL

With Foster having injury problems I agree with not taking him that high and I don't think any of the other LBs would've been worth that high of a pick. There are no OL players in this draft worth the #9 pick and this draft is pretty universally agreed to be extremely deep with pasd rushers so they'll be fine picking one up in the 2nd or 3rd.

With this also being a thin draft for WRs I can understand them wanting to get one before the few good ones are taken. It's still a bit of a reach I would've much rather preferred them trading down to the mid first round since they probably still could've gotten him.

for a guy who's kind of one-dimensional like ross, playing across from AJ green is absolutely ideal. you can't pay as much attention to him with weapons like green or eifert, so he'll be able to take the top off easier.

i didn't like the pick because i thought that not only did the bengals have more pressing needs and there were better players on the board, but that they could have traded down and still gotten him.

They salary cap is there to prevent a team from stacking up on "All Star" talent that is in free agency or could be traded.

The better you have played and the more important of a position is going to bring the player more income. Players in there first few years dont give a shit because their first contract is usually a million or more. Sure, may be chump change to some, but for a college kid, playing a game and getting paid is better than having to work 8-5 everyday.

It's a way to keep one team from amassing all the talent same reason there is a cap so you can't just buy a championship. Basically player gets drafted by team he is now contracted to that team until the contract runs out. Once contracted the player can be traded and so on. There are cases like with Eli Manning where a player has forced the team to trade them but that is kind of rare.

They had 3 1st rd picks there first one was the safe smart pick they can take a chance on Peppers who was getting picked up before the Browns had another shot at him. Peppers is a great player when he's not being whored into every position on the field and the Browns have a ton of needs that will not be fixed in one draft so if they can put him in a position they need him and let him focus on it the Browns made a good move.

Veteran players get guaranteed veteran pay after so many years. QBs after being in the league for 8 years and have been a starter majority of them, get guarenteed 8-10 million. Same applies to other key positions. The cap prevents a bunch of all star vets signing with one team.

Young players can agree to get less money to sign wih teams they like, but what kind of idiot would want less money for their talent? Most players want to make as much money as possible. Sure, some players will take a minor cut from 6 million to 4-5 million, but whats a million when you have already made 10 million being in the league for a few years.
