if it's any use, should you manage to break through the slump grinding out ugly 1-0s and draws, you'll usually recover your form for the last few games of the season.

DLP is bit of a meme role honestly, because its name misleads you. DLP are not really a creative, playmaking role - they're a holding midfielder first and foremost. They're basically a CMd or a DM, but they're not as timid/conservative on the ball.

What I'm trying to say is that you shouldn't use a DLP to have a playmaker from deeper positions that plays key passes and makes things happen (like Gündogan). It's a role that you use if you need a holding midfielder to protect against counter attacks but don't want to completely 'waste' a player in offence, because the DLP focusses on being open to receive a pass and and cycle possession when your team has the ball, unlike players like CMd who sometimes literally hide behind opponents to not receive the ball.

I'd like to think that players like Busquets, 40-y/o-Alonso and Weigl are DLP, but I would not call them playmakers in real life.

Actually lad, visiting lectures is a fucking meme. They're so fucking slow and inefficient, if you're good in your field and understand the concepts intuitively then you can do a 2 hour lesson at home in 20 minutes. I didn't go to lectures last semester because of an internship but I was already signed up in my school do I said why the hell not just sign up for a couple exams and see how far I can go. Took me a 6 weeks (2 week per course to look at the entire coursework, 1 week of preparation for exam) and I got an A and an A+. I'll still go to most lectures in the future because of socializing and because they make my free time more fun (i had no daily responsibilities to do for 5 months and I felt miserable in the final two), but lectures are a fucking meme still.

You can do it without going, just put the hours in until you understand everything 100%, and make sure to let your mind wander and think about what kind of questions could be asked for everything. It also always helps me to not take anything for granted and to make sure that i can verify every statement in the lecture slides based on what I know, because that's the only way to see if you truly got it imo

Dont forget that your players dont get better at playmaking by playing a Playmaker role, the only thing that changes is their playstyle. Their movement patterns change so that they can receive passes from the ball carrier, and they try to play more killer balls
If you have a good team at CL level, your players should generally be decent at passing so that they dont need an easy passing option to keep possession, so your team does not need a playmaker. And if you play a player with good vision, decision and passing stats in a non-playmaking role, he will still play every killer pass that seems viable to him, so you dont need the role to have a playmaking player either. In fact, if you have a good playmaker with good mentals then keeping him in a non-playmaking roles is arguably better because he can pick his key-passes, while an AP role might force him to try dumb passes.

On the other hand, if you play at a shit team filled with one-dimensional specialists, an AP can be instrumental because your wingers can only pass to wide open men, your strikers can only poach and cant provide passes to the other attackers etc

A French dude made the experiment in an older version of FM. It does make a difference if you target the right players (so scout the fucking opposition). Some players do react better to pressure and may even thrive under it while others will flop consistently when in the spotlight. I'm finding that when your opponents are sitting deep and you're pushing high, an AF is more likely to provide assists than goals

if you were playing on the counter, and you caught your opponents with their defensive line in midfield, he could make a goalscoring chance for himself by dribbling into the middle. but in this case he's basically on the goal line already and all he can do is cut it back
which can be very effective if you have a DLF or SS or something that's good at finishing those chances. even if he's getting his through balls, AM(s) might not do that for you
