If the Patriots win another Super Bowl people will start calling them the Greatest NFL Franchise of all time

'72 Dolphins will forever be the greatest team of all time.
Under Shula they could take any team today.

They already are you mooly.
once bradyretires they'll go back to being irrelevant like they always have been
so, the answer is no
>>74896272
The 72 Dolphins would get murdered by the 2017 Cleveland Browns.
The average NFL lineman is about 100lbs heavier than he was in 72. The Dolphins wouldn't be able to get to the Browns QB and Mercury Morris would spend all day on his ass behind the line of scrimmage.
>>74896046

They're already the greatest franchise ever dude. They dominated the most competitive era in football history and feature both the greatest QB and head coach to ever play.
>>74896579
Ssssh, gotta throw those Miami spics a bone now and then to keep them happy.
>>74896579
A single-season team does not define a franchise
>>74896579
and?
they didn't have the same advances in health as they did today and football teams weren't as wealthy.
you compare a team to the era they played in, not 45 years in the future, or 10 years from now people could just immediately discredit the patriots accomplishments by saying "ya but they couldn't compete in todays game"
>>74896774
did you even read the post he was replying to?
>Under Shula they could take any team today
>any team today
>>74896046
They're already the greatest dynasty of all time. One more owl and they become the greatest team in sports history
>>74896046
don't they already?
no the lions wiHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. I couldn't even that statement without laughing
>>74899950
>They're already the greatest dynasty of all time
lol no, I don't think you can be a great dynasty and have a 9 year drought between championships
>>74900164
Since realignment- Patirots
Since Super Bowl Era- Steelers
All Time- Packers
OP has two qualifiers: franchise and all-time.
So thinks about that shit. A franchise is not a one year team or even a one-decade team.
All time means all time.
You cannot compare teams from eras directly to teams from other eras, either going backwards or forwards. they all play in the conditions of their eras and the best rise to the top.
My rating system is base on franchise total wins, W-L% and Championships. therefore, the greatest franchises of all time are, in order:
Green Bay Packers
Chicago Bears
New York Giants
Pittsburgh Steelers
San Francisco 49ers
Cleveland Browns
Washington Redskins
Dallas Cowboys
New England Patriots
Baltimore/Indy Colts
Denver Broncos
Oakland/LA Raiders
Miami Dolphins
Detroit Lions
LA. St Louis Rams
The Pats are in the top-10 all time and that is pretty damned good for a "newer" team
>>74896046
There are arbitrary comparisons. Even if they weren't 90% of pats "fans" outside of boston are bandwagoners, and would pump the tires of the pats with having barley any knowledge of football or the history of the game. If you are outside of Boston and didn't watch patriots before 1998, or have parents that did, you are a fucking slug.
hmm
>>74896046
they already are no team has been this good this many years in a row
These past 16 years have been more than a fan could ever dream of, let alone ask for. I worry that I'm taking it for granted.
>handegg threads in March
>>74906677
browns from 1946-1964 were a lot better
>>74896046
We are.
>>74906868
And then Jimmy G. takes over...
Brady is already the GOAT. Now he is just going for American Prophet status.
Witness him!
I don't think you can call them the greatest franchise since all those championships only come from one era.
If they were constantly contending for championships way back to before Kraft bought the team, then maybe.
You need to be dominate or competitive throughout the existence of the league. Like the Yankees
>>74907421
I honestly think Brady, if he wins another SB next year, will retire after.
Think about it -- with the sixth win he would have won the Pats 2 decade dynasties (3 Super Bowls in 4 years twice during his career) AND tied the Steeler's franchise record of 6 SB rings.
If that happens I see him bowing out and riding off into the sunset.
>have one amazing player and one amazing coach
>have one stretch of success for 16 years
>have decades and decades of Browns-level failure before that
>tied with 2 other more consistently good franchises in ring count
>don't even have the most
>best franchise ever
really makes u think...
>>74896046
If Jacksonville threepeats, people will start calling them the greatest NFL franchise of all time.
>if
>>74896046
No. It'd take a bit more than that. The current Patriots dynasty is the greatest dynasty of all time, though.
>>74896046
Lmao. You guys were literally worse than the browns before 2001. You're not even a top 5 franchise all time
>>74908095
How much more is it going to take the patriots historically have on the Steelers enough to put them over the top they've gone through the Steelers to win the championships

The same coach and QB won 5 Superbowls, including two within a three year span TWICE.
No other NFL team has accomplished anything like that. You're insane if you don't think that's the literal definition of a dynasty.
I feel like the patriots passed Pittsburgh with this latest AFC championship win. If the patriots happened to win another Super Bowl this year then it's not even a debate the patriots are the greatest NFL franchise
Modern day championships mean a hell of a lot more than anything that happened 40 years ago before the salary cap
There is been several dynasties but there has only been one dynasty in the modern era of football
>>74912140
they're a dynasty but I think the fact that they didn't do shit for a 9 year span between championships takes them out of the running
>>74912081
They're already ahead of the Steelers. The steelers in the seventies won 4 championships then waited close to 40 years to win another two.
The Patriots have won five (and counting) with the same coach and QB within 16 years.
>>74912152
>Modern day championships mean a hell of a lot more than anything that happened 40 years ago before the salary cap
T. Millennial
>it doesn't count because I said so!
>>74912164
if the pats are so good then wait until they win 6 before you crown them. it shouldn't be that hard for them right?
>>74912154
It's two separate dynasties in one gigantic mecha dynasty.
You Sir, are an idiot.
>>74912154
>didn't do shit
They appeared in two more Super Bowls decided by 4 points or less.
They were in the playoffs every single one of those years except for one
And they appeared in 4 AFC championship games
Most franchises would kill to have a nine year stretch like that, oh and it's sandwiched between FIVE fucking super bowls you clown.
>>74912173
The Steelers had to wait almost 40 years for Superbowl number 5, the Patriots did it in 16.
>>74900380
So I don't think your formula is all bad, but it omits NFL parity rules as well. Being continuously successful in the modern era is much harder because of salary cap and draft rules. Good on GB/Chi for cleaning up early in NFL history, but it was easier to build off of their successes relative to modern franchises.
>>74896046
not until 7. then the Steelers fans will have nothing to go on for arguments other than the usual ">18-1 lol", literal bitches talking shit about their overlords
>>74912185
The denial some people are in about the Patriots success is astonishing.
Brady has been QB for 15 years (take out injury season of '08). The Pats have been one of the NFL's final 4 teams in 11 of those 15 years. The next closest franchise is PIT with 6.
Although he's lost 2, Brady has lead a go-ahead 4th quarter scoring drive in 6 of his 7 Suberbowls.
Given the NFL's rules designed to promote parity, the last 16 years has been the most dominant run of success in sports history.
>Cheats
>GOAT
>>74913964
>most dominant run of success in sports history.
50s and 60s Yankees may give that a run for the money, but you're spot-on with everything else. The fact that they are basically penciled in for the AFCCG at MINIMUM just about every year for the past 5-7 indicates just how good they are.
There are also two definitions of "dynasty": the classic definition where the championships are clustered (2001-04 Pats and 90s Cowboys for example) with otherwise strong playoff success; then there's the type that the Steel Curtain, Montana/Young Niners, had, where they both won 4 rings within a period of 7-10 years, but no repeats (plus Young's ring 14 years after Joe's first) with continued strong playoff runs.
The beautiful thing about the current Pats regime is that they have both, and could bookend (God forbid it end) it with another cluster dynasty if they win it all in 2017. THAT would make them the greatest sports dynasty ever, better than 1920s/30s or 1950s/60s Yankees, better than Jordan's bulls, better than the Canadiens, and the best in NFL history.
But we'll have to see about that.
>>74896046
They will always be tainted by cheating scandals. Tbh I would rather the best team have cheating rumours so I can discredit them rather than them be squeaky clean
WE ARE THE KING OF /sp/
THEY COME DO ARGUE OR DISAGREE
>>74913964
>Given the NFL's rules designed to promote parity, the last 16 years has been the most dominant run of success in sports history.
the fact that you actually believe this is hilarious if anything the patriots are proof the nfl has no parity

steelers repeated in 74-75 seasons, and again in 78-79, and 49ers repeated in 88-89. fucking retard.
You trannies try to argue against the GOAT and Pats all you want. Its your lost. For you are privileged to witness him.
>>74914724
He meant from first SB win to fifth you drooling retard.
>>74914830
ah, that was my faulty memory at work, I thought they skipped a year in between in each of those instances. My bad.
>>74908028
>tied with consistently good franchises
>tied 9ers last chip 95
>tied dem boys 96?
or do you mean like green bay last chip 2011
or steelers 09
>>74914711
This is the dumbest fucking statement I've ever read. Its not like they've had stacked teams over the years. They're just managed and coached on a top tier level. Honestly going into this next season is going to be one of the scariest pats teams in recent history and I still would exactly call them stacked. But Brady finally has a black guy to throw to.
>>74896272
No they couldn't, they'd get btfo by any relevant team today. They played one playoff team all season.
Single season team =/= franchise
>>74912173
>salary cap doesn't matter
That's your argument? The device intended to break up teams and have bad teams chase good players is the argument you are leaning on?
Are you a moron?
>>74914711
You're an idiot.
>The fact that they have the greatest head coach and greatest quarterback to ever play the game is proof that there is no parity in the NFL!
>>74919088
It also helps when you have the literal best QB who's ever played the game and you pay him like the 10th best QB in the league.
>>74919140
This is part of what makes 18-1 so frustrating, that season every single game the Patriots played were against either playoff teams or teams that had gone to the playoffs the previous year.
It was a ridiculously tough schedule and the Patriots steamrolled them. And then some dude who never caught another pass in the NFL caught the ball against his head so none of it mattered.
>>74924464
Those Eagle & Raven games where pretty tight.
Plus that last regular season game against the Giants.
>>74906873
>MLS numales
If the patriots win their six most people will start calling them that I do admit it..
The Steelers losing to the patriots in the AFC championship game this year was way bigger than most people think in terms of history
Tom Brady is literally going to be elite for 5 more years and there's nothing you faggots can do about it.

YOure damn right

>And then some dude who never caught another pass in the NFL caught the ball against his head so none of it mattered.
this thinking is so dumb and so widespread. It's not like that was the final play of the game. If Ellis Hobbs had properly covered (I think) Victor Cruz in the endzone on the ensuing rest of the drive, it wouldn't have mattered, but the coverage was completely blown and Cruz was wide open for the game-winner.
>>74896272
Pats won more straight en route to 18-1. Dolphins record was beaten IMO, and I live in Buffalo so I hate both teams.
>>74896579
>The 72 Dolphins would get murdered by the 2017 Cleveland Browns.
The 2017 Patriots would get murdered by the 2035 Cleveland Browns.
>>74934826
>>yfw Brady mounts an historic comeback in 2035 to beat the Browns in the AFC championship to return to the Super Bowl and win his final NFL championship before finally retiring to assume the presidency a few weeks late.
>>74896046
They already are the greatest of all time.
Anyone that says otherwise is a butthurt hater.
I'm not a Patriots fan, I grew up in Colorado loving the Broncos, but even I can admit they're the best.
It gives me goosebumps to even say the name Tom Brady, are we better with Garop the Wop in three years?
>>74926695
I'm actually kind of worried about his mental health. Is he really going to defy what it means to be elite at like 45?
Since the super bowl, I have heard him proclaim 3 times that he feels better now than he did when he was younger, doesn't ache at all. I know he eats healthy as fuck, but shit man, I worry about you Tommy.

This is the question>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>?

>>74926695
People forget on top of the Brady Era the Patriots have been to another two superbowls the one in 85' against the bears where they got btfo and the one that was very close until the bledsoe interception against the 1# ranked defense and offense that year and brett favre in he packers. So the Patriots have actually been to 9 Superbowls and have been to the Superbowl at least 1ce a decade for the last 4 decades. They are a pretty storied team and thanks to Brady they have a winning record in Super Bowls now with 5-4
>>74936550

What does it feel like to win Patriot bro?
I just want to see the Redskins win a super bowl in my lifetime...
>>74907566
He doesn't care about any of that though. All he wants to do is play football. He is not wired like everyone else. He wants to win more than anything, and if he retires before he knows that he can't do it anymore he'd regret it every day for the rest of his life. Tom Brady doesn't strike me as the kind of person that lives with regrets.
>>74918563
No fuck you shut up you're wrong because you made a minor mistake about the years that dynasties won championships in. That invalidates your entire point and makes you look like an idiot. Everyone is laughing at you right now. You just embarrassed yourself senpai.

me too skinsfriend.....me too.
>>74937315
It feels like pain until you win it & when you win it, you want to win it again.

When will cyber Goodell step in and do something about the rampant use of augs in football?
Seriously though, Brady would find a way. The preserved brain in a jar of Bill Belichick would determine a flaw in their programming and stomp those dirty cyborgs.
>>74938064
shut the fuck up, faggot. it's not like he used the wrong version of there/their. part of his whole argument was
>no dynasty but mine has these criteria
and he was demonstrably wrong.

>the greatest sports dynasty ever
plz
God damn it doesn't stop
Surely they would be called the New England Eightriots?
