Pretty similar experiences, except that Holland is currently somewhat shittier. As in even the best club in there, GOAT farm Ajax is worse than the best Portuguese clubs. They have somewhat worse rep and worse coefficient. I didn't manage there because I didn't find an appealing club with good kits and/or logo, but I'd consider it otherwise. Portugal is nice if you like to count on South American youngsters.

I'm with Portsmouth in the championship.

In the first half of the season I do pretty well finishing in 5th place. But then during the second half I lose 90% of the matches.

Last season I won like 2 games from January until the end of the season.


This year the same shit is happening. I had two defeats from September until January, and now I have like 5 defeats, one of them to 22th sheffield united and 2 draws.

Tho' I found that Payet was more often reliable on direct FKs than Pjanic who should be a better taker. However, Payet has the Curls Ball PPM, which is deadly on mid and long range shots. Combined with Hits FK with Power, I've had fairly good but not Juninho-tier FK takers score 5 per seasons at least.

I've also noticed that FM gives you bazillion more FK highlights than there would be in real life but scale it down by making FK conversion completely horrid. That said, according to Eurosport FR, Juninho scored a direct FK every 10 tries when he was playing for Lyon (44 in 8 seasons). Apparently he taught Pjanic how to take FKs when both were at Lyon. This season, Lyon hasn't scored a single goal on a direct FK. 45 matches in a row without scoring a single one.

And yeah, I've been on the receiving hand of Messi bailing out Jorge Jesus' Barcelona with a DFK. My tactic (3-4-3 Diamond) was kryptonite for their 4-4-2 w/ 2DM, one of the worst formations in FM17 due to WM tight marking FBs all the time. I had a very balanced match despite having vastly inferior player. Then Messi cleaned up the upper corner and that was the end of it.

Tbf this did work grand on FM for years. My brother plays like a pleb, and from FM10-15 (when I think they finally stopped it) he used to just play as Sunderland or someone, and stretch the £10m budget he was given to like £60m by using the 48 month thing, which let him sign a huge amount of players that he shouldn't have been able to sign.

In fairness, he'd use Genie Scout so this would always result in him eventually winning titles and stuff, so maybe he just never saw the problems it should have caused because of the increased revenue.
