I have the stupidest bug ever in my current save. Ryan Babel randomly complained about squad harmony one day (when literally everyone was on superb or very good morale and nobody was slightly unhappy about anything) and lost morale for half a year. The second his issue was resolved, somebody else took offence. Once the second player stopped complaining, a third player caught the cancer. Now that player has been cured and Sallahi caught it.

What the fuck am I supposed to do about it? It leads to one of my squad having perma-abysmal morale. So fucking stupid.

By the way, the messages always say that the player came to me to talk, we had a disagreement and he went to the media. But they don't even talk to me about it.

I don't know if you can call the IWBs themselves great, but I do love what they can do for your team. When they have the ball, they play like central midfielders (the position, not the role) on support. That essentially means that you need maybe one more supportive midfielder to give you a good core, and you can just overload your with the rest of your players. The only weakness is that your wings are exposed the second you lose the ball because your fullbacks have to go from central mid to the wings, but it's so easy to deal with that with fast CBs.

Ever since I realized how good IWBs are, I started using 4-5 attackers to great effect. I dont always use them though, sometimes regular fullbacks that provide width are more important.

Basically in the 2015 season, which you play in fm16, lyn had a shit first half of the season and got 1 point.

Then, they sacked their manager and brought in some guy from the norwegian futsal national team.

Under him the team "wins" the second half of the season, but gets relegated based off goal difference after winning the last match 9-2. Much thanks to their city rival vålerenga fielding a weak second team against their relegation rivals.

So, if the anon is on fm16, the goal would be to save the team from becoming unplayable, and then restorting the only true city derby in norwegian top flight football.

In older versions players would get credited assists for everything (fouled for penalty/free kick, rebounds, own goals)

But now it seems fucking random. Sometimes they get assists for rebounds and own goals and sometimes they don't. Just had two similar own goals happen from deflected grosses and only one crosser got an assist.

Anyone else noticed this or am I just crazy?

Please don't do this. AP on the wing is just extremely awful in my opinion - AP in general has the tendency to not enter the opponent's third even if you have them on an attack role, because they care way too much about being open to be able to receive a pass to actually attack the opponent's third. If you use players on the wings, you want them to be actually penetrate (be it through the wings with wingers or through the half spaces with more narrow roles), the AP will do neither. If you play a formation with AMR/AML, you need those wingers to actually attack because you already weakened your attacking options through the middle to be able to use wingers in the first place.

The only way APa on the wings can work is if you play a meme counter attacking formation with no strikers and two SS.

Doesn't matter when you have a Treq, a striker, a RPM and a IF. On the contrary, having a player sitting back to spray passes for the others is particularly valuable in such instances. This was the tactic in FM15.

RPM was nerfed after FM15 and they are not nearly as effective anymore in the final third, they play a bit less box to box nowadays. The Treq and the AF will help, but trust me, it won't be enough in FM17 unless your team is GOAT. APa on the wings are trash, I watched a few games on full time to see just how they play, theyre no good.

Of course it's always a question of partnerships. Three attacking players are more than enough for me. How you sort them on the pitch, in which formation with which roles and duties is up to you. I don't need a fourth one at that point, they'd just clog the box. I need some players to stay back and feed the other guys. I probably wouldn't use it in a 4-3-3, but then you could always have CM(A) behind to help scoring while having the creation on the wings. Duties and partnerships.

True, three attackers are enough. My brain slipped there, I don't use an AFa in my 4-2-3-1 (I prefer using a Treq or a False 9), so it wouldn't work in my formation, and I kinda forgot that my way of doing it isn't the only way.

At that point I was dominant enough that pressing like an idiot was good enough to get the ball. Moreover, De Jong is fucking old and can't dick around anyway. I used him more for his Anticipation and Positioning, where he would intercept balls without the need of any physicals or tekkers. You could indeed use a CM(D) instead, but I don't like it for reasons written below.

I'd be honest with you, I also find the RPM role pretty underwhelming so far. My favourite 4-3-3 partnership used to be RPM/DLP(S) with either a Anchor Man or a DM behind them. In FM17 and ever since the 17.2 patch, I can't instruct CM(D)s or DM(D)s to close down less and hold shape, so into the trash that shit went.

This is actually one of the myths that is constantly reiterated by people who understand real football but only vaguely understand the FM match engine. The BWMd acts similarly to a CMd on the ball, so he has the holding midfielder. Also, why do people think a holding midfielder is necessary when he has three players who's main job is to get themselves open so they can receive a pass?

It is important to have a safe option to pass to that stands behind the line of attackers, and he has that with de jong. And you don't need a stationary player who sits back at all times to be able to defend, it's 2017 and pressing is a thing. The only weakness of Francois' formation there is the fact that the formation is a bit easier to counter attack against compared to a 4-1-2-3, but it's easy to cope with that if you just have fast defenders and play a high line.

Really, only shit teams need to bother with keeping enough players at the back at all times, good teams can just press to win the ball back in case they lose it, but they have to have enough attack-minded players to be able to score against bus parkers.

I actually had this problem back in FM15 as well. I played a 4-1-2-2-1 (narrow 4-1-2-3, basically) with fullbacks as CWB and a halfback, he never dropped back into defense but instead occupated the regular DM position.

I still used him because he was basically a more productive anchor man, but man that role has been giving me cancer forever. I hope they'll fix it, but the role has never really worked the way it is supposed to (I only noticed this after switching to 2D).

The one change I want in FM is more freedom in picking a player's actual position. Don't limit me to certain roles if I want to give players certain instructions. If I want my narrow players to go wide with the ball then give me that fucking option. If I want my wingers to sit extremely narrow and occupy the half spaces then give me that option. It's so stupid the way it is now, all wingers are extremely wide and all narrow players are extremely narrow with nothing in between, except for IWB.

That's what I like in PES' tactics creator. Despite being extremely simple, I can tell players to occupy different positions depending of if the team has the ball or not. For example, I could play a 4-4-2 Diamond Narrow when attacking but defend with a 4-4-2 Flat (à la Juve under Allegri I believe). I could've used my 3-4-3 Diamond when attacking but defend with a 5-4-1 Flat. There's also no reason for CMs to be so fucking weak to lob through balls in their backs while DMs are terrible offensively outside of Regista, which requires one of a kind player not to be complete shit; all that while both stratas occupy the EXACT SAME AVERAGE POSITION THROUGHOUT A MATCH HOLY SHIT. Why can't I tell a IF to track back and defend and no, WMs with IF PIs aren't the same thing as they don't move diagonally off the ball like a IF does. They are similar only when they have the ball and that's it. Also, and this is simple football, why can't I tell a AMC in a 4-2-3-1 to defend as a ST to put pressure on the CBs and defend in a 4-4-2 Flat. Everyone does that FFS, it's ubiquitous.

I agree that RPM is a good role to train players in, because physicals are actually important for playmakers too.

I also agree that FM is a bit of a disgrace when it comes to formations and tactics. If even fucking PES or FIFA give you the option of playing a player of a certain position in variety of ways (anywhere in their box), and if those games give you the option to have different formations on and off the ball, FM should be able to do that as well.

The fact that every position has a set position that they occupy triggers the fuck out of me.

And the thing with AMCs supporting the CF when putting the CBs under pressure, dear God. FM is actually a very bad and limited game.

RPMs work very well as DMs by the way, I'd advise you to try them out if you want a DM for defending but dont want a useless player in offense. They act just like a RPM does as a central midfielder but they actually go back and defend, too.

FM will finally be good when they offer us a new mode with no tactical restrictions. Bring back sliders, scratch roles for that game mode, let us reproduce every role the game has or doesnt have with our individual player instructions plesae.

What's so silly is that SI has made a great job into adding great statistical analysis with numbers on everything, all that while making that very user friendly and easy to comprehend even if you don't know jack shit about managing. Agreed, I appreciate what SI has been doing. It was probably mostly my fault but back in the day, when I was new to the latest FM and couldn't figure out tactics, it was a torturous first 1-2 seasons where I just try out all sorts of shit and hope that I eventually find something that works. Nowadays you just need to play a formation that fits your squad for a few months and you get so many ways of analyzing the things that happen that you can immediately find good tactics that you can then tweak further in the following months. FM is getting better and better at becoming less about mundane work and more about picking the aspects of the game that you like and focussing on those.

I also like the fact that they try to base their match engines around real world numbers - they balance the game based on what actually happens in the professional leagues, meaning that crossing in the game is on average as effective as crossing in real life, etc.

But I don't get why they're sticking to this archaic tactics screen still or why they intentionally limit players in their choices. Keep everything as it is for the regular players that only play 1-3 seasons but just give us more options when making our tactics to try out fun shit. FM is an offline game anyway, so it doesn't need balancing. It would be much more gratifying if I was allowed to use any possibility to try and expose the weaknesses that I see in my opponents, but I cant.

Imagine if you could tell your central players to attack half spaces, or tell your wingers to do that. You could instantly expose every 4-4-2 in FM17 because of the stupid wingers placement in defense. Or you could have exposed crossing in FM16 even more by having a pacebabby AMC who runs wide with the ball and crosses, shit like that. I don't ge why the game doesn't allow me to do these things, it wouldn't hurt anyone.
