Can we take a moment to appreciate how good Stoffel Vandoorne is?
If you didn't already know, I just wanted to educate you on Stoffel Vandoorne's recent dominance in GP2 and how crazy it is that he just got a seat now.

Lets look at his 2015 GP2 season (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_GP2_Series#Drivers.27_championship)

He won 7 races over the season. If you removed 6 of those race wins he still would have won the title

There were 21 races over the season. He could have skipped the first 10 and still taken the title. (assuming all other places stayed the same)

If you add 2nd place (Alexander Rossi) and 3rd Place (Sergey Sirotkin) point totals together, they would have still lost to Vandoorne by nearly a race win

He scored 5 times as many points as his teammate

Keep in mind this is a series with all drivers using the same chassis and engine. Meaning he dominated more than Mercedes in the same car as everyone else.

Lets also look at his 2016 Super Formula season. Super Formula uses stock Dallara chassis with engines supplied by either Toyota or Honda, with Honda having the inferior engine (lol). Vandoorne was powered by Honda, in his first season in a series full of multi-year veterans and former F1 drivers, took 2 wins and one pole. The rest of the Honda powered drivers combined took 1 win and 1 pole. Vandoorne finished fourth in the final standings. The next closest Honda powered driver was in 8th with less than half his points.

It's pretty clear that Vandoorne is the real deal, so I would not be surprised at all if he matches or beats Alonso. I can't wait to see what he can do in F1

I do think Vandoorne is very good btw, but that post seems to ignore the fact that it was his second season in GP2. The other ART GP2 champions are Rosberg, Hamilton and Hulkenberg. You really don't think any of those guys wouldn't have delivered these sorts of levels of domination if they got to/had to drive a second season of GP2 (because all 3 won in their first season if you are le lifelong race follower)? Of course power levels between teams change etc but Vandoorne showed his 2014 GP2 car was a race winner by winning his first ever race. He eventually lost that title to Jolyon Palmer who basically won it on consistency and experience.

Winning GP2 in your first year is infinitely more impressive than dominating and winning 999999 races in your second. All the best drivers just won straight off the bat and fucked off to F1.

Vandoorne won't beat Alonso but might outqualify him. I doubt he is a Magnussen or a Perez but I also don't think he is exactly a 2007 Hamilton either. He is extremely talented especially when it comes to understanding car setup and optimizing it, plus his natural racing ability seems to be pretty good basing on Bahrain 2016.
