Can you answer me the following questions /soc/?
>Have you ever had an online friend* for more than 2 years?
*Not somebody who you just play vidya with and post memes, but somebody who actually supports you, knows about your life, and have good conversations with, and vice versa.
Somebody who you have never met in real life, or met first online and than in real life but most communication happens online.
>Do you use social media* other than 4chan, if so which ones?
Social media would include the traditional social media sites such as facebook, twitter, reddit, tumblr, google+ and youtube; but also forums of all sorts; imageboards; and also chat apps like discord, irc, teamspeak, kik, whatsapp, omegle, wechat, etc etc.
>Do you currently feel lonely and/or depressed?
>If yes to the above question. Does posting on image boards and social media give any deep meaning to your life or some genuine long lasting satisfaction?
>Has social media and the internet a positive or negative effect on your social skills and social life in general?
>How was your social life before you started participating in the social media hype and online communities (Around 1980~2004)?
>Can you imagine a life without social media and online communities?
>Would you want a life without social media that is more focused on real life activities with real life friends?
Thank for answering my questions.
Decided to ask these questions after I read this.

Yes.
Twitter, FB, Tumblr (mainly for gathering pics), YT, Kik.
No. Mostly positive. Seeing the way people present themselves through text is just as insightful as in real life.
Pretty normal. Not the big shot but not lonely either.
No. Its just too convenient, fun, and overall enjoyable to lose.
Nah. I have fun and enjoy myself either way. I'm content with my balance of real life and social media at the moment.
Yeah, close friends for over 10 years with a couple people.
Yes, facebook, ig, kik.
Yeah, depression is a bitch. But no, using social media/4chan doesn't help, it just kills time.
Social media actually damaged my social life. People became pretty absorbed into it, and stopped socializing outside of the internet.
Social life before then was fine I guess. I frequently forget about social media, so, to removal of it wouldn't really bother me.
Nope
I used to have "friends" in shit like RuneScape/Xbox Live but I only knew them in the game, maybe some basic shit like where they are from ect.
>2 years
Mhm, I've known my best friend for six years and another close friend for five. We talk about our lives, career aspirations, goals, etc. and also play vidya and stuff.
>Social media
I use Discord every day and I'm an active poster in specific forums, but otherwise no.
>Depressed?
Yeah, somewhat. I'm terrified of the future.
>Deep meaning
Unless you count talking to my friends through Discord, no.
>Social skills
Definitely a huge improvement. Dealing with people online has given me the confidence and know-how to deal with them offline. A lot of people tell me that I'm easy and fun to talk to.
>Social life before
Nonexistent. I'd be friendly with my classmates, but they never made an effort to really get to know me and neither did I.
>Can you imagine a life without social media and online communities?
I'd just be a normie.
>Would you want a life without social media that is more focused on real life activities with real life friends?
I think if I met my friends and switched to real life, I'd be a lot happier. But I'm content with how my life is now.
