I'm never that impressed by Scott Bradlee's arrangements as I feel I should be, but damn he gets himself some awesome singers to work with.
I'm on a modern jazz/funk binge at the moment.

Yep, I'm listening to some jazz. Just a compilation on YouTube though.

It's all the funnier, because there's a guy named Scott Bradley who's an incredible orchestrator/arranger.

Ick. Sorry, really not my cup of tea, anon. It's kind of the opposite of everything I like about jazz.

i had not. i'm approachin halfway through and can say this is 100% my kinda shit. thanks fella. gotta take the time to shout out my boy pharaoh who go me on the "spiritual jazz" train. studio and live version of this tune are just so untouchable.

>>25623656
Thought it might be. No probs.
I keep trying with the Pharaoh, but I just can't get it. I think I'm too much of a composer, I'm too big on structure and patterns, and not enough on timbre and feel to really go for the spiritual stuff. But I'll keep giving it a go, because so many musicians and friends whose music tastes I respect swear by him.
>>25623707
>structure and patterns
heard of stetson? he's using some of the same techniques as pharoah in the tune i posted last, but I'm guessing this is much more your bag.

Now you're talking my language! I love Stetson; 'have all his solo albums.
>>25623717
nice my dude. I work at a radio station and one of his songs came on automation the other night. had a really hard time convincing people that he's a sax player. can't help but follow up with another new favorite of mine: laurie spiegel. very similar stuff going on here with the modular rhythms.
