What's the meaning of the sniff in social situations? Not the sniff you do when you have a cold. It sounds sort of fake and purposeful.
Example 1: "Wow! Nice haircut anon! *sniffs loudly*"
Example 2: A coworker who doesn't like you always sniff whenever you walk by.
Is it some sort of passive-aggressive attack?

Do you mean sniff or a nose huff, because they're completely different things. These sound like huff situations. And someone doing it with one nostril sounds like a straight up sneer.
