That's true, mostly. Some level of respect should be inherent, if you were raised right. Some people develop emotional maturity more quickly than others, some never do. It's just a shitshoot.

Though there shouldn't be a "but" at the beginning of your post; it might not be a standard that is easy for everyone to meet, but it doesn't have to be. Needing your partner to be emotionally mature and respectful is completely valid. If you can't meet either of those, that isn't my fault, and it isn't up to me to force you to develop them by starting an unfulfilling relationship with you. You cannot create a healthy relationship with someone else unless you are willing to take on the burden of your own issues.
