Rotation metadata. The image sensor in your phone/camera has one top, bottom, left, and right, regardless of which way you hold the thing. When you turn it and take a picture, it records which way the device was oriented in the picture, and rotates the image to compensate when displaying it. Without that metadata (which is stripped when you upload to 4chan), the image is displayed exactly as it was recorded.

The solution is to strip the metadata yourself and rotate it correctly.

The way I do it is with jhead, a command-line tool. Install it and jpegtran, then run

jhead -autorot [image]

and it'll do it for you. You can do a whole folder of JPEGs at once:

cd /folder/of/jpegs
jhead -autorot *.jpg

These are both great bulges
