Can I get away with hosting parties in a suburban neighborhood immediately next to a city, as in not get shut down by police?

If I board up the windows, put towels under the doors, and have everyone come through the back, can I still have the cops called on me?

Yes

No you can't.

Yes you can.

In my experience, people from the suburbs call the police far more often than people who live in the city. Suburbs are rather calm and quiet. Hosting a party there would only attract attention from neighbors.

Its Richmond city in VA, its weird how the city is set up, its not a city with tall buildings except for the downtown section, the rest is buildings like 5 stories or shorter, mixed with apartments and those weird urban houses that are technically houses but are shaped like rectangles and you still hear sirens and stuff

There are a few "suburbs" surrounding the "core" city, where geographically you are like 1 or 2 miles from the center but yet it still has a slight suburban feel

Parties are hosted out in these areas but regularly get shut down by cops due to noise / light / fight complaints
So if I have a hired security team to keep the peace, and sound and light proof the building, and have everyone come in through the back to keep it discrete, what are the odds I will be shut down?

Some of my friends are urging me to get an apartment to host, others say a house

also pic rel is what one of the areas looks like

Ok. Suburbs out west are different then. Whiny people in them who hate the peace disturbed even for little things.

I think your concern is sound. So, get a house since homes are apart from each other. Don't board up all windows. You don't wanna make it seem like you're suspicious of doing something you shouldn't.

You should be good, especially if you'll hire security. The chance of getting the cops called on you will always be there, but just have a plan like you're doing already.

>every house is identical

that's a suburb alright

Yeah but pic rel is what happens when you look the other direction

One thing I've thought of which used to be unthinkable to me is to go to the police in person during the middle of the day and tell them that I want to host parties and that I want to take every possible step to ensure that I'm not a disturbance to anyone, and ask them if they can not come after me if they get a complaint

Is this a retarded idea?
>>
>>25126444
No they can't and no it's not. The thing is cops have to enforce "noise laws" if the noise is too loud. Cops may still show up after you've told them you're hosting because it's their job to do so. At best, they may tell you to lower down music and noise and leave without harassing you. if they keep getting calls, they'll have to shut down the party.
>>
>>25126457
Would telling them in advance and being upfront about it make them more lenient and less "shut down" happy?

Also what if I give them my cell phone number and tell them that if they get complaints about X address (that I'm hosting at) to call or text me directly, and I'll word it like I'm saving them the trouble of having to come all the way out to my location
>>
>>25126457
>>25126468
Also what if I promise the cops that I will shut down the party myself at X time (that I work out with them)?
>>
>>25126499
You can't promise that because they cant just take your word for it. Who's to know that you won't murder someone?

Buy foam to cover some windows, those that are likely to be nearest to any loud sound source. Have the security you'll hire watch people from messing around outside the house you should rent and also in the street.
>>
>>25126499
Police aren't the ones shutting down the party. Your neighbors are. If you want to host a party, go talk with your immediate neighbors, let them know it won't be too crazy and won't last too late. See if they'll be okay with it.
>>
>>25126555
good point
>>
Throwing a party isn't illegal. What're you worried about, OP?
>>
>>25126967
Its not actually a crime to have a party, what is a crime is disturbing the peace which is the justification cops use to shut down parties that bitchy neighbors complain about because they just have to be fucking boring and cant turn up their TV louder or something
People who live immediately next to colleges, and who call the cops on college parties are literally losers who should eat a dick
>>
>>25126420
jesus is that like 10ft of spacing between each house?
Idk OP it would seem pretty hard to host a party with "I can see neighbors do scat porn" windows like that. But I grew up in a suburban neighborhood, and usually no one called the cops on eachother over noise or anything.

usually depends on where you live in said suburban neighborhood and what kind of age your neighbors are., You could live next to a bunch of parting youngins with good jobs or next to "that guy" whoes a rentacop
>>
>>25126998
Turning up the TV creates more noise. If you just kept your music at a reasonable volume, nobody would have a problem.

Besides, if your music is that loud, every conversation in your party is going to become a shouting match anyway. Just turn your shit down so people don't go deaf and stop bitching about your neighbors that you disturbed.

>>25126395
Host a party on a farm in the farm house or the barn
or host it in the woods at a cabin
no neighbours to call the cops
means the cops will never visit
>>
>>25126376
alternatively invite all the neighbours
they'll be less likely to call the cops
if they're actually invited
>>
>>25128250
Fuck the neighbors, stop being old and boring when you live next to a college, move out granny
