Join groups and clubs. It is really your only option. You can try to be friends with class mates but that can be blah because you only see them like twice and week and dont interact much. Try arriving to class earlier and chatting people up waiting to go in.

I'm usually in class pretty early, I just never know how to start friendly conversation with people I don't know yet. I suppose giving clubs another shot wouldn't hurt, although those only meet once a week here normally. I guess my problem is I always presume/fear other people are as asocial as myself so I never even try once I'm actually there. It kills me to think about it in hindsight yet I freeze up in the moment

It really depends on what you want out of it. My bro for example is a huge autist and hates people. He could care less if anyone talks to him and gets along fine.

Me, I like having a few friends that are close and not too much more so I get the asocial part.

Striking up conversations is a bit easier because you know you have something in common. The class. Find out who has a similar major as you and talk to them because you will probably see them a lot over the years.

I'm the same way myself, I had two good friends back home and I was content, one I knew for about 15 years and the other one I met through him while smoking. At the same time, the few other people I've met through smoking were not the sort I'd want to have as friends so maybe that's not the best common interest. That's a fair point about majors, I'll have to try that out more instead of resigning myself to defeat. Never considered myself very social but being locked up inside alone has put a damper on my overall state of well-being. Thanks for the help
