I got my degree in Philosophy and pretty much did amphetamines and psychedelics heavily all throughout college.

My department is one of the top ten Philosophy departments in the US and I wasn't prepared for the mind fuck of it all desu. Having to read Being and Nothing one week and then Being and Time the next week really fucks with your head. And that is just a two week period of one class in the program.

I think reading Albert Camus' book 'The Myth of Sisyphus", legit saved my life.

Most people in my program turned into hardcore communist hippies that went off the deep end and live off the grid now, a couple went clinically insane and one of my classmates killed himself. These kids were normal average non-hipster middle class kids at the beginning of the program. The knowledge we were learning just breaks some people mentally.

So yeah, I guess mentally I've been through some shit.

I have an interest in philosophy, but it's largely restricted to practical ethics and formal logic. I haven't properly read anything post 180 AD. I can imagine that modern 'philosophy' could have negative consequences for people without the proper grounding needed to study it without unconsciously internalizing misunderstandings of it, which is why I'm reluctant to read anything modern myself.

Formal logic is the way to go. You'll be able to learn any programming language pretty much on the fly and you can also become a master of argumentation.

It's fun sometimes when arguing with someone online to take their argument and translate it into symbolic logic and show them that they are literally making a bad or unsound argument.
