I propose a new convention on /soc/. In meetup threads, people will often post their country or region with no more specific information. Like, they'll say they're in the US or Canada, but those are pretty big places.
So how about this: when you post your location, instead of posting your exact location, just give an indication of the region in which you're willing to travel to hang out/smoke up/fuck/what have you. So if you live in, say, Germany, and are willing to travel pretty much anywhere in Europe, just say Europe. If you're in New York and willing to travel as far as any nearby state, say Northeast US. You don't want to leave NY, then say NY.
This will tell people not only where you are, but what your range is for connecting.
