I've actually gotten a random friend invite recently on my straight male character from another straight male character who I'm like 99% sure is sizing me up in a creepy way because I do profile play with a female character he's very obsessed with. Had a conversation with him in which he came off awkward and prying, and my friend thinks he's trying to work me over into telling him why she plays with me.

Adding onto it, yesterday I did a pretty indepth update to my character's story and he immediately updated his own with a few lackluster sentences as if he was trying to competitively keep up with me or something. It was the most bizarre thing I've seen in a while.

Well if you're trans, then "gay" means that you're attracted to the gender you identify with. For example my transman is gay. Herm is a bodytype that's female gendered, so "gay" generally means chicks only. That's not really a big confusing thing.

For years, I used to play a text-based role playing game called Dragon's Hall. It was mostly story driven, but characters could sneak away to have more intimate moments.

Do people do a lot of story related stuff in f-list? I'm also concerned that I might get too heavily into it if I start. Back between about 2002 to 2011-ish, I accumulated over 3years of active in-game time to role playing. It felt like I was living more in my role playing life than I was my real one.

This. It tends to break immersion when you're a fantasy character or anything that's not depicted with real imagery and the other person uses real imagery. It's very hard for the two to mentally mesh together.

Also, I don't know how many people can relate, but from personal experience those with real pictures tend to be very poor creativily and with the roleplaying aspect of things, treat it more like a cyber, and poof at random. Not saying you fit this, but that stigma is there and it might affect how you're perceived before you even interact with someone.

I feel like we're missing out on a lot of people who might potentially be interested for the right reasons rather than the wrong ones, simply because the new blood coming to places like /tg/ (appropriately prose-y) or /d/ (appropriately pervy) never sees these threads because they never come to /soc/. I know I definitely never came here before these threads (except a few visits to the Big Girls Thread for obvious reasons), and I never would have found them at all if not for a lucky Google search. Unfortunately there's just no proper home for this thread anymore, and going to the other chan is just a bad alternative -- they're not bad people (mostly), it's just the division of threads seems to make discussion stagnate because things are limited to a single topic per thread, so there's no segues from one thing to another. (We could stand to segue into less shitposting, but on the whole it feels like our setup makes for more organic and interesting conversation.)

What happened was that way, WAY back the channel was #mymagicalrealm. However odd management issues led to it having to be created. It wasn't a coup, it was that the head-ops nickname got deregistered or something.

Over time, #mmerp-ooc became the main chat for both the IC room as well as replacing the main chat for chattyness.

Keep in mind that the room goes back about 4 years ago now. Hard to think it's been so long.
